Let's make a Calendar!

There are so many gorgeous sheepie pictures on this site -- wouldn't it be nice to have some of the favorites collected in a 2006 Calendar? I would be happy to put it together. People would identify which pictures they'd like to have included and we'd have to come up with a method to narrow the choices if there are too many entries (lots of possibilities for handling that - maybe a selection committee, a poll, base on number of posts, etc.). If we tacked on, say, a $5 charge above the price of ordering the calendar plus shipping from a commercial website, we could donate the money to Ron for hosting this fabulous site. Plus, what a great gift item! I did one last year for my family and it was a huge success. Why buy a calendar with other people's dogs when we could feature our own? What do you think?

This was already discussed a few months ago at this thread:

Iit kind of trailed off but I think there was another thread too-- can anyone else find it?
Right -- I recall it but I wanted to get things rolling. For example, maybe there's someone else who wants to take the lead. If we want to do it, now is the time to start identifying who wants to include pictures, which pictures, etc. Maybe people who want pictures in the calendar could include a link to their favorites in their responses. . .
I'd love this, you have my favorite picture of Remy, but I can always do more. I love her to be a choice to be voted on. The avatar picture.

Great idea.
Maybe we can get some of the dogs together in pictures so that we can have more than just 12 represented... more sheepies are always better!

Very good idea!
Definitely! And I can be pretty creative about getting multiple pictures onto each month -- through collage or scrapbook type design. I expect we could have a variation from page to page re the number of dogs represented. There is plenty of space!
i think this is a great idea! i think the best bet would be to get a picture from all the sheepies here. maybe ron can make a section for the calendar in the picture upload section and anyone who wants to participate can upload a picture of their sheepie in that section?
You'll have to upload really high quality images for print purposes. I do all the print publications where I work and have to deal with that issue all the time when using photos for newsletters, layouts, etc. No less than 300 dpi or at least a very large image where the pixel dimensions can be resampled. Set your digital cameras to their best setting!
That's true -- Bigger is definitely better -- but smaller images could be ok if we were using them in a collage. If someone has a file that is too big to upload, you can email me: valyatesATgmailDOTcom. If there are so many that we need to do a poll, we could always post a smaller version for voting purposes.
international shipping ?

Sure! But it will cost extra. To get an idea, here are some prices:

I love the collage idea... Wonderful!

And we'll need some pictures of litters of puppies... who can resist puppies?
Monthly collage of LOTS of pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best way to go is getting the actual prints of the pictures, that will give better resolution for scanning and manipulating the images for the calendar, and it's easier than swapping a 100 MB file suitable for manipulating.

To avoid having to order an X amount of calendars and not selling them, there's a few print on demand business that will be happy to receive the calendar images and print as many as we need for a good price. I'll agree that the profits should go to oes.org or any rescue organization of our choice.

I'm willing to help on this effort... I guess the hardest part will be deciding wich pictures to use.
I don't know how many "acttive" members of the forum there are..... maybe Ron could help there. I don't know what the definition of "active" is. But if you decide on a collage form and decide on how many picture you need then maybe each active member could submit X # of photos...... I alsway hate it when there are "winners" and "losers"......................
Maybe all the 'losers' can be compiled together in a collage for a bad month, like February!

I tend to have a different view. I was not talking about a professional calendar as sold in stores -- but the kind you can make with consumer photos on Shutterfly, Kodak, etc. I've made beautiful calendars with images that are no where near 100Mb -- 2-3 mb works fine and even smaller (if we do a collage). I was contemplating something where we could place orders on as as wanted basis. If we got a group together, we could place one bulk order with volume discount (typically requires 20 to be ordered). Otherwise people could there own at the higher, individual rate. Bulk discount is usally about $12. Individual prices are about 20. Shipping is like 3-5 range. We could either have people order directly from the site (wouldn't be able to charge a surcharge) or place orders with me (or someone else) via paypal that includes a surcharge that gets passed on to Ron.

How about this -- everyone who nominates a photo can have at least one of their images included? There's always room with creative editing. . .
Creative editing? Is that like on the cover of Vogue where they airbrush half the model's bulk away?
Or, we could make everyone submit a sheepie in a similar pose and then just line them all up next to each other, making it look like they posed?
Or, does that mean there will be a Where's Waldo scheme in effect where there could be sheepies anywhere and everywhere in the picture. In the sky, in a tree, walking on a roof...
too much coffee, not enough sleep. Sorry, a little silly today!
