Run, Barney, Run!

Yesterday we took Barney for our usual 'long' walk. This includes passing by a mostly fenced in park. Actually, it really only has one side (the street side) fenced it, but the other 2 sides are surrounded by woods and the 4th side is a parking lot. Anyways, we are walking and we get to this point. Usually there are people or more traffic or something going on, but there was no one at the park, no cars driving by, etc. So we look at each other, thinking the same thing and say, should we? I said, why not? So we take Barney over to the park and walk him in a little and then take him off his leash.

He stands there for a second. Looks back at us, trots about 3 steps and then RUN!!! I love seeing a sheepie in the distance and running at full speed. He was so pretty! But he kept going. And going. We yelled, Barney! And he stopped! And came back to us! So, it was a really good experience. Both in him being able to run free, but also in knowing that he came when called!

A good time was had by all--although he barely made it home, he was so tired!

Steph, sounds like SO much fun! I agree, there's nothing like watching a sheepie running carefree. Hope you can do that more often for Barney!

How Fun! What a great experience for all of you! And how very cool that he returns when called!! :D
What a good dog  It is to see any dog run free! and be safe
Good boy Barney! I love the image of him running and running!
good boy barney!! i think my favorite thing in the world is watching a sheepdog in full coat running right at you... unfortunately walter has no brakes and prefers to run right into me!
We're working on the full coat part!
Yeah, Barney doesn't quite have the best depth perception (or maybe he just doesn't care!) but he'll run full force into me too 8O

This park isn't perfect, since it isn't fully enclosed, but it is so large that we felt safe enough with him running free. If anyone else was there we wouldn't do it or if there were other dogs, but it was a quiet, hot Sunday morning, so we were all alone...
great storytelling!! I could totally see it. . .
There is nothing like watching a Sheepdog run. I love watching Pepsi run at the dog park. That is very good that he came back to you. Pepsi usually never leaves my side if he is loose out front..
Last Week I took him to my friend's house a couple of blocks from here.
I drove because I had the baby with us. I let Pepsi out of the car expecting him to stay by my side. As soon as he's out of the car he took off down the street. I yelled his name and he stopped but did not come back. I started after him and I guess he thought I was playing and ran a little bit further. So I turned around and walked the other way and said fine....I'm leaving. He came running right back...lol
