Wavy Coat

Does anyone have an OES with a wavy coat?
Pepsi has very wavy hair..

Kiera's coat is quite curly, I have a nick name for her. I call her Afrodighty. She is quite fat/round and her but is really round and the hair is really curly so it looks like an afro.... and cause she is such a diva ... thus the name.

Daisy's hair is really straight and Tylers is pretty straight but has a slight wave to it.

All three are so different, coats, personalities and like/dislikes. Then, so much a like too...
Hi Pepsi's Mom, Cinde's hair is very straight. Just like mine.LOL

But when we had Kassie her fur was very curly. I found it harder to groom. So we kept her short.

Don't know yet about Fergie. She still has puppy fur. LOL I wish she could keep it. It is so soft.
Pepsi's butt is the curliest spot. lol

Did either of you notice that their curly coated OES sheds less?
Pepsi does not shed at all.
He is a pain in the butt to groom, but doesn't seem to matt too much.
Now that I have my new clippers I am ready in case I decide I can't deal with it.
Tyler's Mom... Did you notice Kiera being easier or harder to groom than the straight hair

Elissa
Maggie's hair is curly and she has a very thick undercoat at 2 yrs, though the areas that are free of mats and tangles and can be fine combed and then pin brush, lay nice and flat (she had a puppy cut when I got her 3 months ago, so her hair is still only about 3-4 inches long. Barney's which is pretty much mat free is not about 8 inches and at 1 year still has very little undercoat. Both dogs have the same mother, but I do think Maggie's coat is more influenced by her father and will tend to be thicker and more curly. She definitely seems to shed less than Barney.
Her hair is quite wiry (sp?) and bouncy. She is actually quite easy to wash and groom, she does shed a bit, not much and she doesn't seem to get as many mats in her hair either.... her white hairs is much softer than her grey hair too.
Pepsi Mom, Cinde is easy to brush and no she does not shed. Kasie did not shed either. She was easy to brush but we tried to keep her short. Only in winter did we let it grow out some. So far just puppy hair from Fergie.

Now Flannigan is a whole different story. Sheds yr round!!!
Red hair eveywhere!!!! :x always brushing my self off. LOL
Just like Feries Mom,Codys' hair is a straight as mine..Pepsi is very cute with the waves..

My Darla has a long, wavy, wirey coat and sheds like mad. But my Sammy had a more curly, soft coat, making him fluffier and prettier although she is much smarter than he could ever wish. :?
Me too! Beaureguard's hair has come back in very wavy since he was shaved this summer. It's about 2 1/2" long now and curly. I'm interested to see what it will look like when it gets long again.

Does anyone whose dogs have curly/wavy hair have them in full coat? What does it look like? Is it coarse?
Wow, I did not expect this many replies...
I thought Pepsi was the only oddball...lol
His White fur on his head is super soft. His grey fur is on the course side with grey and white and black hairs all mixed together.
His Puppy coat was much softer and not as curly...but still wavy.
Pepsi's coat has never been more than 4 to 5 inches... I am wondering if the longer it gets the straighter?

Thanks :D

Pepsi's Mom ,,,, thats what I found to be on Cinde, White hair is softer than the grey, go figure!!!! Kassie was all curls. nothing was soft on her.
The only time Bosley fur was straight was for about 15 minutes, right after we had him professionally groomed and blow-dried, and I quickly took a picture for my avatar LOL. When I brush him myself his fur gets straighter, but stays wavy. It still seems quite thin, and we have had little to no shedding from him. Even the brush only has a bit on it, but funny, it only seems to be the grey-black hairs coming off...no white. He turns 6 months old next week, and so far we can manage the brushing, and his fur is about 6 inches long. This is our first OES, and with our snowy winters we really are going to try to keep him full-coated...fingers crossed!

Darla's coat has never been clipped and it stands between 6 & 6.5 inches in length and is coarse. After that, it sheds. My Sammy had the more curly, fluffy coat and didn't shed much at all.
Neither of my oes shed at all. Dancer seems slightly curlier when in short coat, but not once it grows out. Sky has about 2 inches of coat now, hers was never curly even when short and is coming in nice and straight. That is an indication to me that Sky is closer to the standard than Dancer.
Chumley's back and body are grey, pretty straight and rather soft and fuzzy. the white hair on her head is silky and straight. the white hair on her chest is very wavy -- like an overflowing pile of curls. a complete mixture.
yes maizie has a curly coat. shes not too happy about being brushed she is only 14 months old.
A wavy coat is common for the OES breed standard. The longer the coat grows the more it will seem to straighten out but it sounds like you have a typical OES coat.
VerveUp,
I am not sure about that...as far as Pepsi goes. His wavy Puppy coat has more or less turned into a quite curly coat. Even when he was 5 inches long last winter he was still very wavy.
I'll have to post a good picture. I just chased him around for 15 minues  He would not sit still.
Elissa
Barney's coat is pretty wavy. He is also harder to brush than my parent's dog Maggie. Her coat is long and silky, soft and smooth. She doesn't have much of an undercoat, either, so she's a bit strange. Her chest is a little wavy, though.
OK here are some pictures

He seems very wavy/curly. When I brush him it immediately goes right back to this muppet looking fur.

Elissa
That's just exactly how Beaureguard's coat is, Elissa. Except he's not that clean right now. :D

I have no idea if that's normal or not, though, since he's my first sheepie and his puppy coat was so straight. I never dreamed it'd come back like this when I had him shaved. :?

Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks!
Panda doesnt have a curl to her!!! Straight fine hair....just cant seem to do a thing with it....lol....takes after her momma :D
Tammy,
The only reason Pepsi is nice and clean right now is because he got into a box of baby cereal and it all got stuck in his beard. I was forced to wash him
Pepsi was 10 mos old when I got him....still had a puppy coat but it was slightly wavy, he had been groomed right before I got him, his coat was about 2 1/2 inches then . I let it grow out and it seemed to get curlier, Now with his puppy coat gone it had become quite curly.
ANYBODY OUT THERE HAVE ANSWERS FOR US???

Darcy, Did you notice Peanut in the picture? His haircut turned out really good this time if I may say so....lol Much better than the scapling he had last time by me
Elissa
His coat still doesn't look very long in those pics, if you let it grow to 10 or 12 inches it should seem straighter.
Elissa, Peanuts coat DOES look good!!!!! Teach my mom...lol....I guess her Bishon looks like she went through the wringer...lool

Wow -- with the longer hair, pepsi does look so much like chumley! but her hair is only curly like that on her chest. Pepsi looks wonderful -- enjoy those curls!
Darcy,
Does she use a guard? Maybe she should try a blade like a 5fc
I know I cannot use a guard on Peanut because they keep catching if his hair and falling off.... A real pain in the butt.
Valerie, Thank you :D and I agree he does look like Chumley.
We are going to grow out his coat for the winter....or at least try :P
Elissa
LMAO.....mom wanted to see how well she could do w/o the guard.....obviously not well............
lol Darcy you need to tell her to get another blade.
Then she won't have to worry about scalping the dog...lol
