Another bathroom project....

First off, if you have not seen Floofdog's thread entitled Finally...Ta Da! You should look at her amazing bathroom transformation.

I too am about to embark on a redo (1/2 bath only) and want to vent a frustration with "special order" from Home Depot.

I ordered an American Standard Hampton widespread faucet--porcelain handles. It arrived yesterday, and I was going to do this 1 da project on Thursday. Of course, screws, caps are missing and both handles are cracked. Home Depot was great and said not to return it, instead calling American Standard to ship me replacement parts.

AAARGH!!!!! So my venting is with not being able to simply "pick up" the faucet...which by the way, is quite nice. I recomend it. Well, I guess I'll have to review and recomend it after I install it...anyway, the before pics will be uploaded shortly and then watch out for updates!

And the frustration begins, ha ha ha! You know I'm laughing WITH you.

I can't wait for pictures and I don't want to hear anything about how the faucet didn't fit because . . .

(and thanks for the kudos!)
Don't even get me started on reno frustration...this time we chose to avoid the big depot stores, and went to small retail. Well all that went perfect, excellent service, best quality...can't get bro in law to get the work finished.

We went away for a week, so he could install the flooring, and re place the baseboards...that was JULY...my daughter's room is still waiting to be finished. Half her stuff is still in her brothers room.

Our old house we redid the bathroom, and installed new one in the basement. Hired all the wrong people, and said never again...the tile installer walked away from the job....due to being an alcoholic left his tools behind...noone one wanted to pick up where he left off...and apparantly he did it wrong...go figure...and he was recommended. The tub/toliet/sink installer also did his part wrong, adn our drywaller had to redo the job to fit the new drywall in, not to mention repair a HUGE patch in the basement ceiling because the plumber guessed wrong. Then the flooring installers didn't level the basement floor had to redo that, and thankfully they did the second job better, but the toilet had to be leveled a little differently to make the adjustment.

Shall I go into the hiring of landscapers... also recommended ..... arghhhhhhh I want to go to school to learn to be a DIY person.

I wish my husband would hire people instead, or learn to do things himself...owning your own home sometimes really sucks. I am happy tho that my broinlaw is an excellent carpentar, and is a perfectionist, I just wish he'd take one full day come here and finish it. We are not paying him, but he has not been out of money for anything like new parts if needed.

Anyways good luck Josh, I can only say been there, done that...and next time as I know there will be I can say it's been a learning experience. And in the end you will know more about plumbing, and how to get what you want done by being assertive...if their taps came to you broken they should exchange it at the store. We have a great Home Depot by the way, but you need to find the people who actually know what they are talking about...ask for the manager if you are not satisfied with the customer service dept. When we sink $$$$$$ into a project and use their store they will give you better service.

Be strong, be patient, you will survive
I wish I had taken "before" pictures of our 1/2 bath reno. My hubbie Tim is amazing and did such a fabulous job - replaced the lighting, sink/cabinet and painted. He is in the midst of completing a huge (1100 sq ft) tiling project. He is chiseling up the old thinset with a hammer drill, and Bailey seems to think the power tool is a relative of the vacuum because he runs from side to side barking at Tim while he's working.
Josh- Can't wait to see pics of your bathroom reno! How frustrating though anout the faucet! Grr!!! Good luck with everything your doing... I'm going back to worrying about my bats, and my asbestos covered pipes, and my carpet pad encrusted floor, and my unfinished cabinets, and...

Ever had that "What have I gotten myself into" feeling?

Karen :)
We started to redo the master bath....got as far as ripping down 25% of wallpaper. lol
The tile is great in there but there is a glass block shower that is all cracking and what not...yuck so if we just remove that it would look 100% better...well of course get all the wallpaper down and paint... Then it will be perfect...
The kitchen is a nightmare. It looks like a drunk laid the tile. It is so crooked and it makes me dizzy... The main bath has the same tile as the kitchen....but straight...although cracked... That bathroom also needs to be painted. The work never ends with a home.

We got as far as taking 98% of the wallpaper off ( it was terrible) and primed the 98%. It's been like that since X-Mas. I have a few wallpaper pics, and I'll add the primer pics and then I'll go with construction pics.

Did we have the same installer...LOL, oh the memories
I should post pics of the wallpaper job in our kitchen--looks like they did the entire room on 1 roll of paper...scraps and all.
That house we first lived in had 70's wallpaper (painted over) with pepto/cotton candy pink EVERYWHERE, walls and some baseboards and some trim...not all of it just some.

The walls were showing the wallpaper sticking through the paint, it was shiny silver and orange. Taking it off was a horrible mess, we were taking part of the drywall off as we peeled and steamed away. We ended up doing knock-down on the walls, and painted it. It looked awesome in the end, thankfully I have an uncle who is an excellent drywaller, as is his son who fixed the bathroom mistakes the plumber did.
I guess we should count our blessings - the family who lived here before us pretty much trashed the place, big dogs, cats, lots of kids. So in order to sell it they power painted all of the walls white and put in new (cheap, but new) beige carpet. So while we had a lot to do, at least we didn't have to face bad floral wall paper or scary color schemes. I remember how long it took to strip all the bad floral wallpaper in my first house 8O
