Max keeps trying to go through the window

we just adopted Max and he is wonderful. our only problem is if someone in the house leaves he stands on his hind legs and puts his front paws on the window very hard. Max weighs about 75-85 pounds and is almost 2 years old. we have a large picture window and were afraid with his weight he will go right through it. any suggestions?

A barrier of some sort to prevent him from doing that! Maybe a large table in front... hoping he won't jump up onto the table, but will put his paws on the table to watch you go.
Congrats on adopting Max! Your avatar is so cute! He looks like he's ready for action!

He's still settling in to his new surroundings, so he may be a bit anxious when one of his new family leaves. Maybe taking him to a training class would help. In the meantime, I agree with Ron - a barrier of some sort.

If you are afraid he will actually break the pane, cover it with something
(in the meantime) until you can stop him from doing it. I am drawing a blank as to what they are called! Window film - maybe?
You can buy them at any home store. You actually apply them to the glass, and you can get room darkening, heat blocking,
uv filtering, mirrored on one side- all different kinds They come off, so it wouldn't be permanent.
They do get a little pricey - so here is my solution: Clear
contact paper. In the area of the store where you would find shelf paper
to line your shelves and drawers, they also have clear paper. You can
get matte (which is translucent) or clear (which is ovbiously, clear). (Just make sure to get a smooth contact so you don'e end up with bubbles.
This would be a very temporary solution, since I am sure you wouldn't
want to keep it on the window forever - and the sticky will come off when you wash the window. (I use the matte contact paper to make ghosts and
goblins in my mirrors and pictures at Halloween- it comes off easily)
If you cover the window with film, if he does actually break it
it won'd allow him through the glass and it won't be such a mess. Just
my suggestion. As for breaking him of this habit - I'm afraid I can't
be much help. My dog actually did go throught the window! Right through
the plate glass. So he learned the hard way!

Welcome! and congrats on your rescue :clappurple: His pic is great. I have to agree with Ron. My first thought is to block the area with a table or something he can not climb on. Couch will not do, Fergie likes to look out the window too. I put the couch there and now she jumps up and looks over the top LOL :D I need to post the pics I took of her doing this. I think he will get over this with time and trust. Maybe when you leave give him a marrow bone to keep him busy or other treats. Like a kong filled with frozen peanut butter. It will take some time for him to go through it. Good Luck  Lets us know how you are doing.
those are some great ideas. thanx
So good to see pics of Max in his new Hoosier home! Glad it worked out. I would definitely recommend the training class, as soon as possible. I wish we had done it a long time ago, we've learned so much in only 2 weeks!
thank you the classes sound like a really good idea.
That is a VERY valid worry. When Tasker was younger he would get sooooo excited by the kids playing outside that hw would go right through the window (glass and all) to get out and play with them. Luckily the worse injury he ever sufferred was a dislocated shoulder. I bought screen guards, the metal kind that you put on screen doors and hung them on the lower part of the windows with hooks. They did look a bit odd and people would ask but it worked.
thanx everybody Drezzies mom was right. he has already stopped. I was just nervous because ive never had a dog do this before. they always just went to the window and watched.
