Mosquito repellant?

I've been getting eaten alive by mosquitos recently because we've been spending so much time at the Dog Park near sunset. I've been reluctant to put on mosquito repellant because Bailey is such a licker. I'm afraid he'll lick my legs and might get sick from the repellant. Am I being needlessly paranoid?

I have no idea but I would be concerned about it too. Can people wear citronella collars, or something similar? That would be one way to repel the critters but not have to worry about Bailey licking.

Me too.
Not that this helps with the question you had, but could you wear pants (lightweight, of course!) and then a short sleeve shirt and put the repellent on your upper arms only where it won't be as easy for Bailey to lick? Then you can wash it off when you get home...

I know, I've become one big mosquito bite these days...
I don't know if it would make a difference, Sue, but maybe you could try just using the Avon Skin So Soft lotion instead of a mosquito repelant. The original formula worked well as a repelant before they came out with the whole Skin So Soft line aimed at mosquitos. But, I would be concerned about him licking the repelant, too.
You could use it on just your clothes and not your skin then he wouldn't lick it off. You could also use a natural product that would be less harmful to Bailey. Skin So Soft works wonders but I'm not 100% sure of the ingredients.
I'd do a Google search on natural mosquito repellent and see what it spits out.
Unfortunately it's still really hot here, so I hate to put on long pants! I've been doing some research and there are some all natural, DEET free options out there that I'm going to try. It seems that DEET is the thing that is really poisonous to dogs and to be avoided at all costs. I'll let you know if I find something good.
Sue...the deet stuff is the only stuff that I have found that has worked....can you take Bailey in the am???? A few more weeks and it will be a nightmare of the past....
Oderless garlic tablets......not only are they good for you, but help repel the nasty lil buggers, just make sure you get the oderless type

not a guarantee, things work differently for different people, but I havent had a mosquito bite in 3 years, it takes a couple days for it to start working
