We are headed home tomorrow.....

The gas prices seem to have settled a bit so I don't think it will be as expensive trip home as we were afraid. It's been a crazy week here and not at all the "vacation" I had thought it might be. Tomorrow it's time to head home. I spent most of today "defleaing" the dogs, house and car. I have NEVER seen fleas as bad as they are here on the Island. Both dogs are on Frontline but apparently someone forgot to tell the Edisto fleas that!!

I called my Vet this morning and he said to go ahead and give them flea baths and to retreat with frontline as soon as we get home. I've been rinsing them with Downey Fabric Softener every day (yup I said Downey fabric softener.......... someone said it would keep the fleas away :? ) Then we vacuumed the house and washed all the bedding and THEY AREN'T SETTING FOOT OUTSIDE again til we leave!!!!

We've been taking care of alot of household stuff for my Dad and running to Charleston with him to the Dr's. He found out that he has a recurrence of cancer and at his age it's a tough decision what to do. Yesterday we went to the cemetary to "spruce up" my Mom's grave sooooooo I'm feeling kinda sorry for myself

What hapepned to the days when vacation ment laying on the beach slapping on suntan loation and reading trashy novels????? Oh well, needed to whine so who did I turn to ???? The unknown masses :D :D :D

See Ya'll when we git back north!!!!

Gosh Ginny - sorry your vacation didn't turn out as planned.

Drat those fleas!!

Very sorry to hear the news about your Dad. :(

Hope you have a safe trip home!

And you can whine here anytime! :)
We will listen any time. I am really sorry to hear about your Dad. I know that this is a difficult time, been there, done that. I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Ive missed you Ginny.......sorry that your vakay didnt turn out so fantastic.....poor puppy boys...is the downey working? Im sure your dad appreciates all that you do!!!!

Im sure you have good pics cant wait to see them!!
Sorry to hear your trip did not go as planned, and about your Dad's health :(
As to the fleas... not fun at all either....
I've heard of the downey trick, but if I remember correctly fabric softener is flammable?? Maybe it's only the dryer sheets... I don't know....
Have a safe, and hopefully relatively cheap, trip home :)
Dealing with aging parents is difficult. Remember they cared for us now it is our turn to take care of them. Like you father, my mother has a rapidly clogging heart artery and she refuses to have it cleaned up. It is hard knowing she could go at any time, but it is her decision. At 88, she's had a long life.
Ginny, so sorry things didn't go exactly as planned. But does anything in life EVER go exactly as planned?

Those mangy fleas!! Poor Tasker and little Ty! Bet it's driving them CRAZY!

I will keep your dad in my prayers. It's tough enough getting old, without all the other stuff life throws at us.

Have a safe trip back! I'm sure you'll be glad to see home again!

Chris
Oh, let's hope Tasker doesn't bring home fleas. You don't need to be importing them. Hope your father is doing better. Someday you'll again be able to kick back, relax, read and enjoy the beach, not this trip though.

I'm so sorry to hear you had a crappy holiday! NOT FAIR!

My thoughts are with you for your dad, cancer is such an awful disease to cope with!

I cannot believe on top of that, you had to deal with fleas! I think dealing with fleas is stressful enough on a good day!

At least the gas prices are going your way! :D

Hurry home! :D Wishing you a safe, flea-free trip home! :D
Ginny,
Sorry to hear about your father's health problems.
Also sorry your vacation was not relaxing & the Fleas.
Knock on Wood!!! I haven't seen a Flea since we moved to the Desert.
I guess there is something good to say about the Desert after all...lol
Elissa
Have a good trip home. Since your vacation was rough the least that can happen is a nice calm trip home.

If you get bored on your way through Pennsylvania, stop by and I'll make you a dinner pit stop.

Mandy
oh boy, that sounds rough. I second the sympathy everyone else has offered. I hope being home brings much-deserved relief. So sorry about your dad. I hope the cancer takes it easy on him. It is actually very lucky that you were there to help absorb the bad news. . .

warm wishes,

Val
We made it home safe and sound!! Only took 14 1/2 hours!! We were shocked at how cold it was in NY!!

I've posted some pictures and will link them later (don't know why Ron's isn't up to approve them, 8O ). It really wasn't a bad trip, those of you with aging parent's know how it is when you "go home"....... it's always a mixed blessing. I hate that my Dad is getting older and want him to be the way he was when I was a teenager...... but then, I"M NOT THE WAY I WAS THEN  He's lived a good long life and to tell you the truth I don't think a day passes he doesn't wish he could join my Mom!!

As we left Edisto Island it was to reports that Hurricaine Ophelia is supposed to hit somewhere in that vicinity in the next 36 hours, LOVELY!!! My Dad PROMISED he's evacuate to Columbia if need be (all the while mumbling under his breath about all the hurricaines he's seen on the island  ).

The boys were GREAT on the ride home. THey are always a hit at the rest stops. People get a big laugh out of the difference in their size. I wish my kids had been as easy to travel with as those two. They pile in the car and go to sleep instantly. Ty sleeps on a pile of pillows in the back seat and does ocassionally bark at passing cars, Tasker could care less as long as he gets fed at 4:30.

Tomorrow I'll get caught up on all the posts...my Dad has a VERY old computer and a VERY slow dial up so I could only read a few post's a day. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has been up to.
Welcome back. Hope your father does evacuate. He has seen a lot of hurricanes in that area over the years.

I bet those dogs cause comment. Tasker and his toy.

When we moved down here we didn't have a sheepie at the moment, just an St. Bernard and Siberian Husky. How we got them and all the last minute misc junk in the station wagon, I'll never know. Like your two, they just hunkered down and slept. Bless their hearts.

Tasker has never been wild about the beach...... he doesn't especially like the sand and the water is to wild and crazy but he did make the trek ONE day!!

Ty on the other hand LOVED the beach and went with us EVERY DAY!!

I think he was a surfer dude in another life !!

Edisto Island has long been a popular site for loggerhead sea turtle nesting and has a very active turtle project. When I was younger I was active in turtle beach patrols and would walk the beach several times a day looking for new nests and signs of hatchings. In recent years I have been less active but there was one hatching right in front of our house while we ere there. This is a picture of an older turtle taken at the Charleston Aquarium, we go every year and I never get tired of watching the sea critters

Tasker and Ty are great travelers, although Tasker doesn't understand why he can't ride home on a pillow the way Ty does!!

Awesome pics!!! :) Tasker looks so handsome :)
Right Tasker, I'd complain! That little princess is no better than you! Shred the upholstery if you have to, but you need a fluffy bed!

Glad you had a great time!!!!! Everyone looks like they enjoyed themselves.....I cant wait to leave for the beach.....6 more days

And to think I"VE BEEN HERE the longest

Tasker
Great photos, Ginny! The beach by your dad's house is AWESOME, but I can see how you'd worry about him in hurricane season.

Tasker looks so handsome in his new 'do, and Ty is just too cute for words!

Glad your trip home was uneventful. Now back to reality!!

Chris
What amazing pictures! Ty does look so happy at the beach!
Great pictures! The turtle is mesmerizing.
Great photos, Ginny! I just love Edisto Island. It's so beautiful there. Glad you had a good trip home. :D
What a trip to be jealous of... that looks SO awesome.

I LOVE all the pics. Look at your little guy's coat. Oh my gosh, that so makes me want another shorty. ;)

It makes me want to shave Yuki's hair so I can take them to the beach too. :)

You dogs look like they loved the car ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(((hugs)))
Ty looks awesome on the beach! Too funny.

Surf's up dude!
