Hurricane Katrina - Fostering a dog

[Editor's note:
Second Chance OES Rescue is helping find homes for dogs from Louisiana displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Several breeds, not just OES.

It's such tragic news about the hurricane, the people and now the animals need help.

If you go to www.petfinder.com and click on the information regarding donations, fostering, etc. I recently looked at the forum and they are looking for people to foster animals. Ray and I are thinking about fostering, perhaps anyone else can help too.

For those in IL, there is a link here for Paws Chicago who has 200+ animals in need of foster homes.

I've been thinking about that, too, wondering if they needed foster homes in my area. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out! :D
I was wondering about it too! A girl at my work and I are thinking about it. It would be a great way for us to test out if we could deal with 2 dogs.
Hmm, might be a nice way to find out how it is with three. It's for a good cause...
Have y'all been able to get through on that link? I keep getting error pages. :x
Many of the local rescue societies are trying to help hurricane victims and their pets. I know the rescue groups I've talked to have their hands full, and can use any help anyone is willing to give them, even if it is just going over paperwork or making phone calls... even if you don't want to foster- consider giving some of your time to a local rescue group!

Karen :)
Hey Jill, 80 of the hurricane rescue dogs will be coming to Traverse City on Sunday. If I can get away I'm going over to help with whatever I can so I'll keep a lookout for Clyde's birthday present brother :)
Sorry, it's 40 cats and 40 dogs. If there is anybody out there from Antrim, Grand Traverse or surrounding counties they could really use help, cash, food, leashes, time. Contact the Petsmart in TC or PetSafe.
We got in 2 Old English.1 eight year old and 1 three year old....We also got in 2 adult golden Lab adults and 2 three month old pups.... I told them I would take Labs, Retrievers, Irish Setters, Great Pyrenese and Beardies.... and of Course Old English...... Most of the Babies they have gotten out of New Orleans are at Gonzales. LA.........I talked to a women that I know that does Rotti Rescue today and said it looked like a lot of them were Pits or part pit....Or at least so far.....But, they had more coming in......A Baby in Need is a Baby in Need I don't care what breed it is........I will work with the Lab rescue people in placing them...You members that have smaller dogs, bicshons, maltese, yorkie get in touch with those rescue groups and see if they need help with fostering.....These Babies are going to have to fostered...The rescue getting them can't keep all of them for long......... The ones that we got are owner turnins so we will be looking for Furever Homes for them after we get to know them.......... Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue
