Help! Peeing when in trouble

Hi Everyone!

I can use any advice anyone can give as I am about to pull my hair out and am getting really stressed by it. Not good for the baby or me:( Anyways last week, my OES who is only 6 1/2 months started peeing in the house when we yell at him for something he has done in the house regardless of what it is or whether we catch him (usually) or after the fact. It is getting a little frustrating and harder for me to bend over to clean up after him. Anyone else go through this and have any experience? I just don't know what to do. My beagle just moves behind him with his tail tucked between his legs and I know my OES is going through typical teenager days but argh...Can I hope that when he is done teething (nearing the end of the road) some of these mannerisms will go away?

Can you give us an example of the situation? What did he do and your reaction to it and the end result (his peeing?)?
Did you search the forum for posts about submissive peeing? It sounds like that could be it given that he's letting loose when he's being reprimanded. I'm at work otherwise I'd search and post links for you but it might be something worth looking at.
BP--This is starting to happen to us too, and Barney just turned a year old this week. I am looking for suggestions too, especially since it is a new behavior in Barney.
Maybe they put something in the water in VA (just kidding!)...
I read up a lot on submissive urination for Harry, as we thought he had that problem. Think his is mainly excited as he gets so happy when a friend comes round and still wees everywhere when he sees her (he's 1 today). This website pretty much sums it up http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/submissive.htm (was going to copy it but wasn't sure about copyright infringements) - it's their way of saying 'I'm only little'! I am by no means any authority on the subject but it sounds like it could be...hope it helps, Gillx
One example of when I have caught him is the other morning when he was tearing apart a roll of paper towels. I looked at him and asked "what did you do?". Next thing I know he is peeing. I know he knows he is doing wrong, its just really frustrating.

He has also urinated around select people upon meeting (one of our elderly aunts back in July and myself when I first got him at the airport when he was 8 1/2 wks old) but those I figure was just excitement pees.
This does sound like submissive peeing.

The link that Gill provided has good information on how to go about changing the behaviour.

Good Luck! Let us know how it goes. :)
Try to keep as much as possible up and out of reach, lessening the need for discipline. Yeah right.
I think as we housebreak puppies we tend to confuse them at times. We get them excited to go out, and at the same time we use our "mean" voice when they mess up. I think the key to success is tuning into the tone of our voices and listening to the message we are sending to the dogs.
Maybe if the dog is housebroke you can deter from the punishment voice and ask the dog if it needs to go outside, without the dog knowing you seen what it did. This could possibly help distract him from what he was doing and him going out without the pee pee problem. Once outside, having done his business, praise him. Try putting a chew toy in the place where the "paper towels" were so when he comes back in and returns to his "toy", he'll see its gone and hopefully catch on to "this" is your chew toy. :?: :?: No expert, just tossing out ideas. Good luck.
