Clumsy Sheepie!

I am wondering if other people have clumsy sheepdogs? Otis is oblivious to feet, legs, flower pots! He just steps on my toes and he will walk right into legs if they are up on the coffee table (rarely do I do that) :) He just doesn't seem to pay attention to where he is going at all. Is this common? And yes his eyesight is fine and I keep his hair trimmed around his eyes.

I thought it was just tuc lol but his clumsiness lead to one of his favorite past times..... he will take a running start in the living room and slide across the wooden floor in the dining room(its so risky business). He doesnt quite get his landing right because of his clumsiness. Then he barks at me like come on mom your turn!!!
Panda runs into everything..doors, furniture, me...etc...and she can see just fine too! When we play, we're constantly saying "watch your head, watch your head..." lol...
We call it "CLYDE SMASH!" just like the incredible Hulk. If we wants to go somewhere, he'll crash through any obstacle-- human, dog or inianimate object. He walks into walls, the coffee table, sometimes misses the pet door and walked into a parking meter on a walk the other day. It doesn't matter if his hair is down or pulled back. I realized he walks with his head down sometimes and I think he just plain forgets to look up. My little dummy!
haha this has me cracking up, its so funny how alike these dogs can be. walter also does the 'risky business' slide but hes infamous for running full speed and knocking right into people in the backyard, often making grown men fall over. but i think thats probably more of him making trouble then being clumsy!
This is so funny. It is exactly why I wanted a sheepdog. Chumley also gets a running start and then slides to greet me. It is adorable. She doesn't really bang into anything though. She's even pretty good about moving out of the way when I say "excuse me." But only if she is standing. If she is lying down, forget it. She's planted.
Jill, Panda does the same thing with knocking people over at a full gallop, only I have learned to stand with my legs spread...she will either run through them or come to a screeching halt, and just stand between them.. when were at the park, I think she thinks its her safey zone...I has been funny to see her knock my husband over

I've tried letting him run between my legs but it's that whole can't-judge-gaps thing again. He just runs full force into my knee cap. Thank you Clyde. :(
Barney's a knee cap slammer too. He runs full speed in the yard, turns and runs straight for you. It's 50/50 whether or not he'll swerve to avoid contact. I've been knocked over several times. Once, my shoe actually flew off my foot several feet in the air...
I am hoping the pic of my furbaby, Blue is here. I'm sure that it will be ... and all with Willowsprites help! Thank You! That is if I did my part correctly,"clearing throat!" Anyway, I am sitting here LMAO, but fearing what I have done! I bought my oes for a service dog, and so far so good! When she has here work cloths on, she could not be BETTER! I have taken her out twice now and at 12 weeks, I couldn't ask for more. She is also quite a retrevier which is a big part of what I need. My other big need will be for her to stand if I fall or get down for some reason or other, i find that, "I have fallen and can't get up," so to speak, ha, so she will need to stand for me to pull myself back to an erect, OMG ...   vertical position!
Now with all of your guys input, I can just see her dragging me face down ... in the isles of WallyWorld, knocking everyone over along the way. ACK!!!!!!! "What's that big thing ... flying that little 'kite thing behind it ... aye?'
Well, all I know is that I have had her about three weeks, and after fifteen years of breeding and showing a variety of breeds, the love of my life thus far, the Samoyed. Now how can it be that I LOVE this critter, that nips the heck out of me, more then I EVER though imaginable!!!!!
Thanks for Listening Blue and Jennie
SHAVED?????? ROFL @ self
I've known several excellent sheepie service dogs, so I'm not going to worry. That's not to say there won't be some silly times when she deems it appropriate to play.

Now as for this running into knee caps, or just knees in general; not the thing to do when Mom already has bone spurs and arthritis in knees. The orthopedic surgeon is on fast dial.

Only Jack is a fumble foot, Mo and Harry are very precise, except Harry likes to come up to you, lean and then slide down your shins onto his back for a belly rub. The big Pyrs, well, it's best not to let them play anywhere near your body or else you'll be on the ground.
Hello Boss, We have not been home from Krogers long at all, and it was the first time in a large place, the people, childern, carts, she only flinched maybe twice. It truely "IS" when she has her work cloths on, she is the MOST well behaved  WONDERFUL OLD SOUL!!! 8O in all the land. And actually, for her to be, at this tender age  so attuned and worried about me, makes me want to

BLESS HER LOVING HEART! i CAN'T SAY ENOUGH OR LOVE HER ENOUGH!!!!!!!!! :!: :!: :!: :!:

Chumley shoves her head between my legs at the park -- like an ostrich. She's very shy. It is so funny looking.
Is there any sheepie that isn't clumsy? 8O I've yet to meet one! Gucci always runs thru my legs too! I thought this was so cute and have encouraged this, I'm afraid! I realized it wasn't the best thing when GG did it too my girlfriends son who is 7 and doesn't have long enough legs yet, Gucci almost took him for a pony ride!

I've tried to teach GG to dance with me, but have halted this effort after trying to show Grant our "moves"! Let's just say that a high kick while Gooch was weaving thru my legs went terribly wrong...I had a skinned knee...but didn't spill my drink!

I love that Blue is going to be a service dog! I can hardly wait to hear all about the progress you two make! It sounds like you have bonded and that will go the distance! :D

Colleen and The Gooch=>I love to dance!
Jennie,

Judging from the picture, you have a real sweet sheepie. I hope she gives you many year's service.

It's this clumsiness that leads to many sheepies being in rescue, in homes that have young children. They don't mean to hurt the kids, but sheepies wind up bowling and knocking kids over when the dogs are excited.
Definatly a Sheepie thing, Smeagol has no idea of "Personal Space" either, He is "in your face" type of dog, He sits on any part of any body, Right on top of Frodo until he gets told off by him. Thats why we love them, They just have such a wonderful character, The house is just too quiet when they go out with the kids.
Thank You Colleen,
I think that she will be great, most of the time," ya know" LOL!
New behavior, she opens the Lage Christman pop corn can I keep her
bones in, and NO KIDDING, you can see her Laughing  What
to do :?: she will get to FAT ... aye ?
BY the way ... is that a shoe I see ... rofl!

Have to say I agree with Colleen - is there any sheepie that ISN'T clumsy?? :?

I have always kept Drezzie's eyes cut out so she could see, so I can't use that excuse either. I can't count the number of times she's turned around and walked into the doorway, or a kitchen cabinet, or a piece of furniture, or somebody's knee, etc., etc., etc. Just TOO funny!

Chris
No, MO is an acrobat. She would be great in agility except she goes into Dead Brain Zone when she's chasing ..........anything: cars, cats, rabbits, shadows, etc. But I agree, generally they are rather fumble-footed, Jack being an excellent candidate. Watching him run is a riot.

I really must get all three in an avatar photo......talk about 3 entirely different looking dogs.

'boss
For the most part Spike isn't very clumsy - that is unless he's playing and is too consumed in what he's doing to care. Often he doesn't stop himself fast enough while running to the fence in the yard and has run smack dab into it a few times while chasing the stream from the garden hose  . He's also the only dog at the dog park that I've ever seen actually knock over the metal trashcans while running. Not just once, but twice.
