I'm so Proud!

And you don't hear that very often about Barney in the housetraining section!

We usually feed and water Barney first thing in the morning and then let him out to do his business. This is just the routine. Well, Barney was not eating as fast as usual, nor was he trying to keep the cats away from his food (who were upstairs as usual) as normal. He just stopped and looked at me. I asked him, Barney do you want to go out? And he got all excited and ran to the back door!! I let him out and he sprinted to the correct pooping and peeing location and BAM!!

It sounds really odd, but Barney, whom we've had for 6 months now almost, has never cared about being asked to go outside, we just let him out at set times and assume he has to go at that point. He's never let me know before!!

Yay! Congratulations! I know how proud you must feel. It's such a big accomplishment. I felt the same way the first time Clyde used the dog door on his own!
WTG Barney!!! It's so nice when they finally start letting you know they need to go out. He deserves a cookie. :)
He got a cookie!! (Actually a chicken jerky strip!) :P
Go Barney, Go Barney, Go Barney.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooohoooo Barney!!! :clappurple:
That's awesome! I know the feeling, waiting for them to finally "get it" . It took FOREVER with Dancer, and she still isn't 100% reliable if I don't stick to a tight routine and keep an eye on her. *sigh* And she is almost 2!
I'm glad I'm not the only one still having some issues getting my dog to really "get" the whole not going in the house thing 100% of the time. I really thought I was a horrible mother because there's still rare occassions when Spike can't hold it. :( I even put bells up for him at the door to the yard for him to ring when he wants to go out. That didn't work for him. His tactic for letting me know he needs to go out when I'm sleeping? Licking my toes gently. He's such a sweetheart.

hehe...Jasper just comes up to me with his hairy face and licks me on the mouth a couple of times. Not exactly a pleasant way to wake up! lol Guess it beats the old way he used to do it - jumping up on me/the bed in the middle of the night. Not too good since he's 70-75 lbs...lol
Yay barney...good boy :clappurple:
