Aqua Clyde

Today we went to my mom's house out in the country. They have a big pond and, since neither Clyde or Lucy have ever swam, I thought it would be a lot of fun for them. Mom lives on almost 70 acres with no nearby neighbor so I thought we'd go off leash and see how it went. Clyde was perfect-- stuck with us, came when called. The best part was, he loved the water. He seemed confused at first, like it was giant water bowl but slowly he worked his way in as we cheered him on. Then he'd get out and take a big running start and come smashing back in. We soon found that we couldn't swim out to the middle of the pond because Clyde was coming no matter what and he started making himself tired. The best part was what a goofy swimmer he was. He was the splashiest, most grunting dog that I've ever seen in the water. It was so cute and silly. Next time I'm bringing a camera!

Lucy could not go off leash. On the leash, she waltzed in the water like she knew exactly what she was doing, swam around for a minute and then got out to relax on the grass. One time was enough for her. When we tried to get her back in, she slipped her collar and ran for the hills. James and Clyde took up chase and we all wound up running in a field of soybeans. Every once in awhile you'd see a little dog body go jumping up over the line of crops. Clyde was trying to stick with James so we let him keep chasing but thank goodness Lucy got disoriented in the foliage otherwise we'd probably still be chasing!

Jill-

I wish you had a camera with you , I can picture Clyde splashing around  Lucy and Clyde must be worn out.
I can just picture this from your description! Sounds like so much fun! But look out now! Clyde is hooked! You'll never be able to go to your mom's again without swimmuing!
Chris
I know, next time I'm bringing a camera for sure. He dried off great too-- no mats and, oddly, his white areas are extra white. It's almost like the pond water did something. Odd... he needed the rinse off anyway because he got all muddy at the Dream Cruise the day before.
Dear favorite cousin Clyde:

Our Mom told us about your fun day with Lucy. We like to swim but have no place to do it :( Luke and Rosco say they can swim better than you, but Rosco's never been swimming before so he's making that up. Beau can't go in the water but he's really good at watching the towels. My Mom said maybe someday we could all have a swimming party and invite Bentley(Rosco said he has REALLY long legs). We could have a race :D

Well I have to go bark at the people 3 blocks away-
Daisy
It sounds like a fun time was had by all!!! I cant wait to take Panda to the beach...I dont think shell come out whiter than before...but we can always hope :D
Darcy - good luck with Panda at the beach! When we had Drez to Virginia Beach 2 years ago, all she did was bark at the waves! I thought that with her being the swimming fiend she is, she'd LOVE the ocean, but no such luck. She didn't like the sounds of the waves (hence the barking) and thought the waves that were trying to touch her feet were playing with her, so she kept jumping back. What a doofus!
Chris
Chris...Im hoping since Panda doesnt like the pool...she may like the beach....in any event, Im sure she'll be tuckered out each day..even if only from barking..lol :D
Clyde sounds like he had a blast!

Darcy, I'm betting Panda will like playing in the waves because she likes playing with the water from the garden hose. Bailey has picked up that game from Panda, he loves drinking from the hose and chasing the water when I'm out watering.
Sue, Im surprised that Bailey isnt a pool pup....the way he sticks his whole head under the water in the bowl...lol......isnt it funny how they pick things up from each other....hopefully panda wont pick up baileys drinking habits...... 8O

Clyde says to tell Rosco, you're on and that he will win any race-- despite the fact that he seemed to end up swimming in one place a lot!

Seriously, if you're in town, and we all can find time, I'm sure my mom would love to have us. She loves when Clyde visits and she was bummed out she missed him swimming. The pond is clean and springfed but a little weedy since mom and her boyfriend are getting a little older and just can't keep it up like they used to. James and I swam in it and we're fine... I hope. :)
Whiter than before? Maybe it's a magic pond. Do you guys feel any younger? Maybe it's the fountain of youth!!

And Clyde might be able to take Roscoe but with those legs Bentley could probably just take two strides and beat both of them.
True, but Clyde would disorient him with his splashing!
Mandy-
You would have cracked up watching Clyde and Rosco chasing Bentley. they couldn't figure out why they couldn't catch him  Finally they got smart, Clyde chased and Rosco turned and went the opposite way, the result startled all three  I love when they do something really smart and they don't realize it.
Bentley says he wants to go swimming too, but what he REALLY wants is to play chase again. He's going to see a couple greyhounds this weekend and get some running tips. Look out Rosco & Clyde!

I bet there's lots of room for chasing out at Clyde's Grandma's...
Sounds like they had an awesome time. Definitely take pics next time. :D
Yikes, if Bentley gets any better the boys won't stand a chance
No fair. Our guys would have to grow an extra foot to keep up with Bentley as it is. Let us know if he beats the greyhounds. I'll bet it'll be close!

There is tons of room at Grandma's-- as long as they can be trusted to come back...unlike Lucy.

Who knew Clyde would be the "good" one.
I knew :)
