The one and Lonely

Beau and I just got back from the Bark in the Park outing. Sorry to say that there weren't any other sheepie's there. We were hoping someone in the area would have a sheepie there. Beau did very well with little kids coming up and petting him. I had his pinch collar on, just in case he tried to jump on anyone, but he didn't even think about it. :D He was a good boy all day. We watched the doggie fashion show, the agility, dog tricks and fly ball and sat and talked to other dog lovers. This event benefits the Michigan Rescue Association.

YAY for Beau! Good boy :D
Good Boy Beau!!!!! Make sure mommy gives you a cookie tonight for that!
Beau says: Thanks Darcy and Holly. He acted very well with all the different breeds there. I was quite surprised to hear how many people use to have Old English when they were growing up.

Holly, have you been to this function before? It benefits the Michigan Rescue Association. It was great watching all the events and to mingle.

I think Beau might be on cable TV. I saw the guy aiming the camera at Beau. I think Sterling Heights is channel 13? The people from the radio station WDVD were really nice to talk to. (They are the one's that sponsered the event.)

We both had a good day and came home and took a nap.
Karen-

I've never heard of it, where is it held?
Freedom Hill
That's kind of scary, I go past there all the time and never noticed  Were there lots of people there? I miss everything :(
It never fails that the TV cameramen shoot the sheepdogs. Every public event that we've gone to our dogs have gotten their faces on camera. It's inevitable.
I'm also always surprised to hear how many people used to have OES. Do you think it's because of the Shaggy Dog movies? I guess it's equivalent to people having Dalmations because of the movie.
Maybe people are senile and just see any furry dog and they think they used to have one just like it. :o

Good job today Beau! Way to fool everybody. Keep up the good work.
Good boy Beau! And yay for Karen too for supporting the Rescue Association :D
I think it's a case of OESwannahaveonebes
There were alot of people there. All types of breeds. I really enjoyed the agility and flyball events. Those dogs are amazing.

Holly, the event was in was in the little Mirror newspaper that comes free to your home. Your right, there are alot of OES wannahaveonebe's out there. No one wants to take the time to groom them.

Darcy, your right about the camera (TV) thing. I saw a woman taking Beau's picture on her digital camera. I asked her if I could see it. He took a good picture. She only got my legs, better that than my butt.

Beau says thanks Bailey's Mom. We're going to try and do something with rescue in memory of Mollie.

Another comment was, too much shedding and too much time grooming.
I was at an arts and crafts fair yesterday having a caricature done of the dogs. While I was waiting some woman said to me "how can you stand the shedding? Why would you want dogs that are so mean?" What a moron  I told her she must be thinking of another breed because OES are anything but mean. She replied "Oh, those are sheepdogs? I thought they were something else". And I'm thinking like what...

Karen, the only OES rescue person in MI I know of is Geri House from House of Rex. I don't think she ever has many dogs in rescue though. The main animal shelter in Macomb County (on Dunham Rd) might be a place to start, there's another(smaller) one on 22 Mile which would be closer to you. That would be a wonderful way to remember Mollie.
I just remembered Beau is from House of Rex
Yes, Beau is from House of Rex. I don't have alot of time right now. I work 50 hours a week. I thought that I might call Gerry and see what she needed.
Maybe a donation. Beau's mother is from House of Rex and his father is from Rhoades.

Maybe someday we'll meet up someplace. How old are those boys again? Daisy is the baby right? Beau doesn't have anyone to play with and I feel sad about that.
Beau and Luke are 8. Rosco will be 7 next month, Daisy will be 7 in November. How about daycare a couple days a week? Or maybe enroll in an agility class one night a week. You could go to (I forgot the name) at 16 & Groesbeck. I think Warren has something at the Civic Center also. It is hard being an only dog :(
Sounds like it was a fun event for Beau :)

Bestdogsx4>> Most people I have run into don't even know what an oes is, but I have run into a few who used to have one, or do have one. There are not many around here though now.
Maybe agility one night a week. Beau likes to jump onto the sofa. So maybe, agility might be his thing. Thanks for the sugguestion.
 Canine Connection is the name, I used to take Daisy and the boys there for conformation.

We took Clyde to the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday and he got more attention than any of the cars. And, you're right, so many people said they had one growing up. I, too, thought senility or just plain crazy. I was also surprised how many people were scared of him, which really made me laugh. One little girl just ran up and hugged him and said, "Oh, I love you." It was so cute!
That girl has good taste in dogs :D I figured out that if all these people REALLY had an OES when they were young there should have been about
879,654 puppies born in the last 20 years
That's funny Holly  But, it's true.

I took Beau to Petco to have Lisa shave his chest, she also shaved underneath him. He never likes to be brushed underneath. It was like watching a sheep being shaved. In October, Beau will be completely shaved down, so I guess we are testing the water, so to speak, before the big event. [/quote]
Why is he being shaved down in October? He won't have much coat for winter, won't he get cold?
I always had Mollie shaved down in October and again in April. When do you shave your guys down? Open to sugguestions.
I was just curious. We shave as needed, Daisy is the worst because she matts so badly. Benny shaved her almost to the skin 3 weeks ago and she's got lots of new growth. I don't remember Beau ever being shaved or even cut down much. Luke and Rosco don't grow much because they both have hypothyroidism. Take a before and after picture of Beau, I know he's grown alot.
