Romantic meal ideas

I was wondering if anyone has any 'sure fire' romantic recipes that they love. My husband has been away all month and I would like to make him a nice dinner tomorrow but I can't stop thinking of the same recipes over and over and would like to try something new...

I like to go a little over the top- crab cakes in the shape of hearts, red or pink wines, individual tortes or cakes (chocolate of course). You could try know aphrodisiacs too- oysters, umm.. chocolate (those are the only 2 I can remember of the top of my head...)

If you want something nice but you don't want to have to put a lot of work into it, try a local high end grocery store. We have Byerlys and Lunds in MN. I go to their pre-made food area, they have all sorts of yummy things- seafood, salads, cheeses, yummy deserts, sometimes they have high end meats all ready to put into the oven, all you need to do is turn the oven on and pop them in. It's a great way to feel really creative, without putting in a ton of effort, and being exhausted before you even get to sit down to the meal!

Good luck!

Karen :)
I say champagne and hor'devours...I love home-made crepes with smoked salmon rolled in side...with a dill-lemon zest sauce on top...if you want to go overboard...add a dollop of caviar...yummy!
Oh, by the way, the romantic meal turned out to be him picking up chicken nuggets and a milkshake on his drive home!
Ah, the romance!
it only gets better with time...lol....I figure if he does ANYTHING for dinner, its romantic...haha
That's my idea of a romantic meal. lol ...me not having to cook and us enjoying something incredibly unhealthy and fast from our local chains. I always says "the baby HAS TO HAVE" .......(whatever food I'm craving). :)
Oh, I guess I didn't specify...He picked up chicken nuggets and a milkshake FOR HIMSELF on his way home. He gets home and was like, So, have you had dinner, and I said not yet, and he said, don't bother making me anything, I had chicken nuggets on the way home...
Men!
LOL that is TOO funny!
Oh no! I sure hope you didn't go to a lot of trouble to prepare a dinner he didn't even eat...
That's the most horrible story ever...of course I laughed, but stilllll...MEN??

I also hope you didn't go through alot of trouble, he owes you a romantic night out to make up. Esp not phoning to say I'm grabbing nuggets want anything...
It actually worked out okay. I was tired and just being lazy on the couch (I had the flu earlier in the week, so I was trying to catch up on feeling better!) so I had things in my head that I could jump up and make at any time but I hadn't actually started anything (besides defrosting chicken), so it turned out okay. He would have asked me about wanting some nuggets, but he knows that I'm a health nut and don't eat fast food...
But, yes, he DOES owe me a romantic night out. I'm thinking this Saturday...He owes me this for leaving me for the first month of our marriage!
LOL..sounds like my husband's idea of romance. :) I've just learned not to expect it.
You've got to train that boy better! He's still thinking like a single guy. Next time go thru the trouble of making (or buying--put it in fancy dishes and hide the store box) something nice and then pout when he comes home after having filled himself. Don't over play it, but do let them know you are upset he would think of himself and not you.
Sheepieboss--that's a good idea--the only trouble is that he would eat the 2nd dinner too, whether or not he was hungry, to make me happy, and he doesn't need to be having any extra dinners!
There is still training to be done, although you should have seen my 'starting product'! I've done a lot already... But then again, we were 20 (and he had blue hair and a tongue ring!)

LOL... that made me laugh... 15 years ago when my hubby and I shared our first apartment on our own, my dad HATED him. He had long black hair, metallica t shirts, black leather jacket, tatoos, ears peirced, dock martin boots...lol... now he's close cropped hair, suit and tie, doesn't show the tatoos often.... and only wears one earring in each ear...lol... still has the old dock martins though but now hides them UNDER his pantleg if he's wearing jeans, not over top.
What the heck!?!? You mean they grow out of this stuff?

My husband turns 40 this year, is still wearing the piercings, odd colored hair and letting the tattoos hang out. Did I mention he's in a band? I think I married a 12 year old!! 8O
Mandy--I've heard some outgrow it--depends on the breed! you might have a very stubborn one...It might be the band thing. :)
Mine has done a remarkable job. The first time my dad met him (as just one of my friends--we were friends for 2 years before we started dating) my dad and I were walking on my college campus and my hubbie walks by and says hi to me and to my dad and that was about it, and my dad said, What a Punk!
So funny. Now he's in med school, has normal hair, took out the tongue ring...When we were looking for pictures for a slideshow for our wedding it was so funny to see what he looked like back then!
Well, he still has hair to color!
