I can't decide!!!

I need some opinions....lol...
I take the summers off work to stay home with my kids... but right now we could use the money, we need to get a new car before I go mental being trapped here.
I hate my job... and if I go back it's going to be a pain in the butt trying to walk there and back (an hour walk) in 100 degree or higher heat that we've been having lately.
I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. We can make do if I don't go back, but we would get ahead a little faster if I do go back now rather than in September.
I would have to have a sitter for one week as my daughter is going away with friends for a week. Then my daughter would have to watch her borthers for the last couple of weeks in August before they go back to school.
Soooo.... what do you guys think? What would you do?

STAY HOME!!!! Enjoy this last month home with your kids. September will come soon enough. Get out of the house with your kids so you don't go mental. Read some good books, play with your puppies, start a new craft. Who knows when you will have the opportunity to be home like this again. My vote is to enjoy this little bit of time you have left.
I agree with Ginny, Stacy. I'd stay home and enjoy the rest of the summer. September will be here before you know it. Take the dogs to the park. Send out some resumes to find a job you love! It's just a few weeks...enjoy it!
God forbid something would happen to you or your children in the next four weeks and you'd never be together again. Live like it could end tomorrow. I agree with Tasker's Mum........do something different for these next three or four weeks....explain to the kids they have an assignment.....to come up with something different to do every day....or every other day. Getting out is great, but also inside: eat spaghetting with fingers only, make masks and be a different person all day, come up with silly clothes day............what ever you do: keep it fun, simple and cheap.
When it comes to exercise in extreme heat (walking an hour EVERY DAY) ...always say No.

Then again, this comes from someone who just had Applebee's followed by a big sundae.
I say stay home....enjoy the few weeks that you have left with the kids...pretty soon they'll grow up and not want to spend time with you..keep 'em captive for the next few years... :D
Enjoy the few weeks you have left. The memories will last a lot longer than the money. That's one reason we struggle so much so I can be a SAHM. :)
I vote for STAY AT HOME!!! Besides, an hour walk in the heat would not only be exhausting but could be dangerous too. Your kids will remember your fun times at home long after you get over the temporary budget crunch! :P
I'm a stay at home mom, so I definately vote stay home and enjoy your kids. Money's an issue for us too. I've just found a website that seems to have some fairly legite info on different stay at home options, it's WAHM.com, that may be helpful for you.

Imagine a story such as this, which, by the way is true, and then decide.

You have 3 daughters, a 14 yr. old and 2 13 yr. old twins. All your older children are married. Your husband goes to the hospital with heart problems on Saturday evening, and dies Sunday afternoon.

You and your children bury him. Next Saturday afternoon, you suffer a heart attack. Sunday morning you die, leaving your 3 youngest children orphans, in a period of just 7 days.

No amount of money is worth the value of our time. Keep faith in God. He'll provide for you, as you provide for the children He's given you.

Have a good time.
Hi,

>>votes for stay home.

I was so anxious to provide for my kids by contributing to the household that as a result I missed out on many things. If I could turn back the hands of time...I would not work as much as I did, and spend more time with them. Time is priceless and you can never go back. The materialistic stuff becomes less important than just the simple things. You've got all your life to work but only so many years to be around the kids when they're small. Good luck whatever choice you make.

Marianne and the boys
I vote for staying at home too, Stacy! Especially with the heat we have been having, I cannot imagine walking an hour in it! I think they said we are supposed to have a 44 degree day this week, WITHOUT THE HUMIDEX! YUCK!

If you are really bored, maybe GG and I could come for a drive? :D He always livens things up! And he has been eyeing Dancer and Sky! Of course it's probably best not to choose the day it's going to be so hot!

Enjoy your summer! We don't have much left! And besides, you would just be saving for a vehicle that would be here just in time to scrape ice off of! YUCK!

Colleen and Gucci George=>what's a job? I prefer my days of leisure! Sleeping, eating and bellyrubs...ahhhhh nothing better than the dog days of summer!!
Thanks for all your opinions everyone... I still can't decide what to do however...lol...
I'm thinking staying home is the best decision... and it is only a few more weeks til they go back to school... I dunno.....*sigh* LOL
Hopefully you find a book that you REFUSE to put down or some project, so you have a reason to persuade you to stay home. :)
What do you do? After an hour walk, will you even want to work? Can you ride a bike or something? It sounds like a lot of work before even getting to work!
Last week when I was in Washington I was AMAZED at the amount of money that seemed to flow, expensive cars, big houses, HUGE shopping malls with stores where people spent HUNDREDS of dollars on things they didn't need. Last night Doug and I were sitting in our tiny little house (manufactured house :D ) in our unfinished living room on my 10 year old couch with the puppies and all I could think was "I wouldn't trade this for all the money in Washington". Sometimes you HAVE to make a decision to do something for money, but when it's for that little extra something that maybe you could live without think about what is going to matter TEN YEARS FROM NOW!!! Ten years from now am I going to be glad I spent these last few weeks of summer with my kids (even if they drive you over the edge) or am I going to be glad I got the car a bit earlier. It may be that you do need the car and the money but TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, they will be married and gone before you know it :D
Can't tell you how long I drove a clunker and we did without a lot of the extras because I was home with the kids. It wasn't easy, but worth it in the long run. Enjoy your kids and have a great summer.
Another thought to keep in mind when deciding on working or staying at home with kids is, who's teaching them and what are they teaching. What moral standards are being taught. Do the kids look upon the babysitters as mom? They need security in their lives, they need to know mom is home, and dad gets home at say 6:00. Less time to get into trouble, etc....

This is the main reason I take summers off. I'm very lucky in that my job (even though I hate it...lol...) allows me to be home with my kids and only work when they are in school.
It's a boring office-bank job, but it's nice that college students can take over during the summer.
I think I am going to just stay home... a few weeks won't make that much of a difference in money or a car... but you are all right, it is a huge difference to the kids. (and to me, but I guess I feel guilty about not bringing in money when we need it)
As for my husband being home by six.... lololololol.... nope. Workaholic.
Good for you :!: :!: :!:
YAY! :clappurple:
Stay at home with your kids.. enjoy them while you can. Open your own dog walking business. I know here in the Maritimes (Nova Scotia), you can make a very good living at it and it would only take up a few hours of your day.. if you have dogs, your out walking already... why not walk other people's dogs who are to busy to do it. I have a couple of friends who do this, and make really good money.

Dud and Murph
Welcome to the forum Dudster :)
I love Nova Scotia, one of the most beautiful places IMO.... :)
I am still staying home with the kids for the rest of the summer, I don't think I'd be into the dog walking thing in the kind of heat we've been having. I have a fairly large fenced yard, so I go play with the dogs in our yard in the evenings, and just go stand on the deck while they do their business at other times and then right back in the house. I don't actually take them for a walk all that often, maybe once or twice a week.
I hope to hear about your pooch and see pictures soon :)
I hear you about the heat!!! it's not fit.. I hate to say this but I am actually looking forward to the fall and winter this year.. cooler weather.. no more sleeping on the deck with the dogs. I agree with you.. Nova Scotia is beautiful, I am orginally from New Brunswick and moved to Nova Scotia 10 years ago, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I have two dogs, a 3 1/2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog named Dudley.. and a 2 1/2 year old Old English Sheepdog/Springer, named Murphy, that I rescued 18 months ago from a "breeder" in NB. Murphy was in rough shape when we first brought him home, but he is right as rain now. They are different as night and day.. Dudley is a big lazy lump and Murphy is on the go all the time.

I really have nothing to compare Murphy to because I very rarely see OES's in my neck of the woods, but after discovering this site and reading all the stories about the other OES's.. I find myself saying.. OMG that is Murphy, the bum wiggles, the kisses, and the little sheepie fits he takes in the yard while Dudley just sits and looks at him like he is crazy. I cannot imagine us without him.. rescuing him and everything we went through in the last 18 months is worth it.

If I could figure out how to post pictures I would send you a couple.. haven't figured that out yet... If you know how, can you let me know...

Both Dudley and Murphy have their own pages on Dogster.. here are the links.

Nice chatting with ya  [/img]
hehehehehe............I'm trying to visualize an springer and an oes mix.......... it's gotta be a bit of an odd mix as two different breeds I never met!!! Which personality wins out???? I can just picture him bouncing up and down saying I wanna be a couch potato I wanna be a couch potato but I just can't stop bouncing!! :D :D :D
How to describe Murphy.... hummmm.

The only thing that isn't sheepie like about him is his color and his tail.. it is not completely bobbed, just enough left so you can see when he is happy. He is black and white, with grey throughout. He has a sheepie build, sheepie fur and a sheepie soppy face. Apparently his father was an OES and his mother was a Springer.. we just call him our Little Freak of Nature. He has tons of personality, constantly wants to be with me or on me.. the one time I manager to get his face hair tied up, at halloween.. it was a scary bow.. he ate it.

I walk with the same group of doggie people everynight.. ususally there is about 10 to 15 dogs a night and Murphy spends all of his time trying to herd everyone together.. it's just to funny, nipping at their feet, barking.

When I first rescued him, he was 13 months old, weighed approximatley 23 lbs and had next to no teeth. He was afraid of EVERYTHING, the car, the house, the garbage can, the leash.. now he is a healthy 65 lbs, that's probably small for a sheepie, but with a 125 lb Bernese, that's big enough. He is the life of the pack.

I could go on and on.. but I won't bore you...

:D
Dudster-Welcome to the forum!

Your dogs are so cute! We lived in RI, and a
family had Bernese Mountain dogs. Every morning the
owner would walk downtown with both dogs pulling a
little cart. It was so sweet, they would go to the post office
then back through town.

Your Murphy has nice markings, and looks like a good
natured guy!

Nova Scotia is just beautiful, we toured there a few years ago-
beautiful scenery. We came back another year and just
toured Cape Brenton. So I guess we've seen the island!
Loved the tour book that Nova Scotia provides, the different
trails are really interesting. We liked Dartmouth, Halifax
and White Point Beach. The seafood is awesome!
They're both adorable! I can definitely see the springer in the mix... he looks to be a fairly equal mix of the two, he has a springers head but a sheepie nose...lol... what a sweetie! :)
He sounds wonderful, can't wait to see more pictures :D My brother has springers and they are the bounceyiest (heheheh) dogs I have ever known!!!
That's Murph.. happy, bouncy.. leaping and spinning.. not sure if that is sheepie or springer.. he has to meet and greet everyone we see wiggling his butt a mile a minute begging for treat. He loves it when you kiss his nose..or blow in his face..

I entertained grand thoughts of teaching Dudley to pull a cart like all those perfect Berners you see on Animal Planet.... I don't think carts were meant to go through the woods attached to a Berner in pursuit of a squirrel.. Needless to say, we only tired it once.. Dudley's hobby is hanging out the window going through Tim Horton's begging for a Tim Bit...That he could win an Olympic Gold Medal for!!!!!

Willowsprite,
Hope you, the kids, the dogs and the work-a-holic hubby are having a great time. One thing I think that would've made your decision a lot easier, that I 'think' we all forgot to mention was: DUH 8O

Kids, aside: Would we rather go back to work and suffer the "agony of withdrawal," OR stay home as long as possible and feed our addiction to the forum?
