Max's turn to get shaved

There has been a lot of talk about summer cuts lately, and I found myself with no choice but to have Max shaved. He's 7 months now and his hair was about 4 inches. But mats were forming terribly around his ears, his nose, legs and I just couldn't deal with them. Plus it has been so hot, so we took the plunge today. It was like picking up a totally different animal, I didn't hardly recognize him, my kids were freaking out!! He is so sleek looking and his legs look so long and gangly!! I haven't walked him yet, but I have no idea how the neighbors will react!! I'm just glad he's comfortable and can play in the sprinkler now!! I definitely will post pics when we get our old computer programs put on our current computer. Did any of you find yourselves in shock after your sheepies first shavedown??

Awwwww Max, you're beating your messageboard "brother" Spike to getting shaved :( *big hug for the sheepie* I'm thinking seriously about shaving Spike too. I just wanted to wait a few more weeks until my mom came out to visit CA (from NC) since she has never gotten to meet Spike in person yet. I didn't want her to meet a shaved puppy, it just didn't seem right considering how darn cute he is with all his fluffy hair. I've been fighting the urge to shave him but it really is just horrendous how matted he's getting. I just wonder how long it's going to take to get him back to the length of coat he's got now - another 7 months? And if that's the case, am I going to shave him again then? I'm scared!!! I don't want this to be an endless cycle of him never getting to have long hair. :(
Take it from me.....the hair grows back VERY fast. Ive been cutting Panda once a month to keep her short...when grooming time comes, her hair is at least an inch...from 1/4 of an inch!!! They look a little silly, but they still are the cutest breed out there!!

You'll do fine!
It will grow fast... I was shocked the first time I shaved down my first oes, and again the first time I shaved Dancer down, but not Sky....lol...
I'm really hoping I won't have to do it again anytime soon....
Ditto the above! Beaureguard was just shaved two weeks ago and his hair has already grown out quite a bit. But you're right, it was a shock at first. No one recognized him! :D
Yes! It always is quite a shock! With Bart, our last guy, I took him for a walk after his summer buzz and one of the neighbors came over and asked what happened to Bart, and when did we get the new dog?
Meanwhile, poor Bart is trying to get the attention of the neighbor who always fussed over him before! :D "It's me, it's me, Bart!"

My friends love the "new" Gucci! They think we should keep him like that all the time! Obviously, they have short haired dogs, and do not understand that I love OES's for the furballs that they are! GG is growing back very quickly as well! I don't know about you, but I've been "brushing" him every nite so that he gets used to it! It's going very well! That way, we may not have to resort to such drastic measures next summer. But...we'll see! That would have mean I would have to do something with this humidity! I swear mats will pop up every hour if you let them! :(

Does anyone else ever feel like they have to pet them differently? Instead of scratching big handfuls of fur, you kind of have to "rub" them or something? Maybe it's just me?

Colleen and Gucci George=>Oh Mommy, I don't care how you pet me, just don't stop...ever!
I find myself petting Panda in the direction that her hair grows...especially by her bum...her hair is really thick there  and that actually knots up pretty good if you give her the nubbin' rub that she loves...
I totally understand RollrXGirl, your mom will just adore Spike he's so cute and fluffy!! My mom lives near me and hasn't seen his new cut, she'll be flabbergasted! Max is recovering from his new do  He almost seems like he has even more energy now that his hair is sheared off, and walking him has been a riot!! Most everyone has reacted positively, one lady said he looks like a million bucks!! A few people think he resembles a greyhound. His hair is so different, it feels like a soft chenille blanket. I just might do this every summer!
