Sprocket has dry skin

Hello all. A bit of a question that has been going on for a while now. Best do most of the story so you know what I am on about- When hubby found out Jameswellbeloved was owned by a different company than what he thought he didn't want me to get any more sacks. We have turkey and rice adult. Have used it on all our pups(dogs) since we found it with Sweep our 2nd sheepie. Perfect walks with now mucky bottom is the main reason. Anyhow we changed to Burns Alert as was suggested by daughter's dog "trainer". Daughter had changed to Burns something or other because her Dylan can't eat to much bulk and keep a "good tum" so she has a high protein one so he has less amount to eat. When Sprox was on the Burns he was hungry. We gave him more, he put on weight and was still hungry, proper hungry, begging for food and taking out of your hand if you didn't keep very close eye on him. He never did that on Jameswellbeloved so we got another sack and mixed it half and half. What I did notice whilst on the Burns his skin was nice and clean and not at all flaky like it had been on JW. Once back on the JW his skins dry, flaky, scratchy. So what do I do? Have 2 sacks of food on the go forever? The Burns does tend to upset Sprocket's tum. Burns good for skin, bad for hunger and poos, JW good for poos, filling up with out filling out but bad for his skin. Any advice would be great. We have a pet shop at Cranbrook but she always has to order anything in and is costly so if there is a good solution that isn't to expensive and can be easily got I would we very grateful.

That was a long question. Sorry about that. xx

Whatever works!!! :D :D :D
We have the same issue. Acana is my go to, but shipping costs me 103 now, so we tried taste of the wild, he started leg chewing, now looking for an equal to Acana, it's been tough.

I go with what works, but for a 13 kg bag, I am paying 150 bucks. We need our train back!
Canidae looks cruddy. Nutro gave him soft poo. I am still researching for a good food. Quickly, as I have 2 bags left!
My new 5 year old rescue Bindi came to us with dry, flaky skin, a dull looking coat, and was underweight. Since she had born 5 or 6 litters in her short life and was reportedly "free-fed" a dry kibble, I wasn't surprised that her nutrition was off.

In the three weeks we have had her I put her on a high protein (28%) kibble with some of my wife's "dog stew" (ground turkey cooked with carrots, peas and a little oatmeal, brown rice and low sodium chicken broth) and feed her twice a day. Although a dainty eater, she has finished every bowl in one sitting.

She has been getting a grain-free kibble called NutriSource I never used with my other dogs that I tried when I went to a local high-end pet store when that manufacturer had a rep there who gave me a dozen sample packs of their many types of kibble. Many have fish and/or game as their first two or three ingredients and the protein content ranges from about 24-28%. Web site: https://nutrisourcepetfoods.com

She has had two baths in the three weeks since she has been with us and has put on a few pounds as well. Her stools have been firm and normal. I bathe her with the same homemade shampoo I used on my previous sheepdogs (2 parts aloe-vera hand soap; 1 part white vinegar; 1 part water; and about 2 oz. of glycerin per half gallon). The flaky skin completely cleared up over a week ago and her fur is now glossy and healthy.

Don't know if the high protein food would be the right thing for an overweight or older dog, but it works for me. Bindi is also proving to be the sweetest little girl I have ever seen and is helping me a great deal to get over the loss of my two big male sheepies in the last couple of months.
I was wondering if I stuck with the JW and then gave him an "oil supplement"? Would that work as well as having the oil in the kibble- I can't see be any different as all goes in one end and out the other!? xx
Coconut oil may work!
Also olive oil. I used that for my old labx.
But if a food makes him itchy, I would keep looking for a new food.
JW is the only food we have found that doesn't upset him and our previous 3 were on it also, it is just his skin is flakey on that and when he tried Burns it cleared up but had constant "runs". See my problem? xx
Than combat the flaky with coconut oil, I add a splat of olive oil sometimes too. Better a bit of dander than the runs!
Myself I would change the food, as I am allergic to animal dander.
What foods do you have available?
There are so many now in the dry kibble form- grain free, potato, rice- all say good for everything. I am reluctant to change brand as it gets expensive to buy sacks and then not use them. x x
