Bare with me while I have a panic attack online about... Lol

Let me start with, if I don't laugh at myself at this point... Well my life would be a sad little life. So feel free to laugh too!

We got photos of the litter the other day. Which is awesome, one of those little fluff NUGGETS is MINE!! One of those tiny nubbins is going to allow me to be so much more independent and safer in my life.

And yet, I've spent the last few days in an absolute panic. What if I ruin this puppy? What if I don't have everything for it? Our last "puppy" was quite awhile back... What if I pick the wrong puppy? What if I can't bond with it?

My life has turned into a sea of "what ifs"... Logically I KNOW this is my anxitey disorder and this feeling is going to fade the moment my puppy is safely in my arms, but help a girl out guys... Tips for a new puppy coming into a house with other dogs (who both love other dogs) and things you'd recommend before she/he gets here?!?!

I just wanna be sure you understand you have a selected an extremely rambunctious, high energy, loooong puppyhood breed with very high maintenance requirements and perhaps a strong herding instinct.

My wife and I are exhausted with our puppy, he's 13 months and is just starting to calm down. We've had a three year old rescue who "behaved like a puppy" and a two year old who was a bouncy puppy... But then we got a 7 month old puppy. Holy moly.

I hesitated to write this, I don't want to feed into the anxieties you're having, but it's a different issue. It's better for everhone if you're truly prepared for what is coming.
I suffer from social anxiety and panic attacks. I find focusing in my little Harry helps completely. Even though he is a baby.
But no one can predict bonding, as it is up to you and the pup to create that bond. He will be a pup, bitey, jumpy, loud and bratty, it is up to you to establish the rules. You need to know if you are ready for the work it takes to put into a pup. With my anxieties, I find caring for Harry when I am by myself all day is rewarding and calming. Even when he gets wrangy, I would rather deal with a pup than people!
That cute picture you look at us your future, and will rely on you as much as you will rely on it!
So it will be very important that you are sure you can handle It! :wag:
And I am sure you can! You have come this far. I would never give up my baby, I tell you that, I am sold on the breed for life!

Never hesitate to warn anyone what they are getting into!! I genuinely appreciate it. We are ready for a handful of a puppy. I grew up with Border Collies and Aussies, and we really did a tin of research before we chose an OES, that included meeting dogs and talking in depth to long time breed owners :) Thankfully my breed choice is one of the few things I'm actually not anxious about!!
I had these feelings about my current dog (who is retiring due to poor hips) and honestly he is my heart and soul. I'm hoping it happens the same way, and once here this puppy just melds into my heart and life. <3
Great, you've put my mind more at ease. Thanks!
Honestly I love how sincere and dedicated to the breed this community is. I quickly learned if I had questions about the breed I wouldn't be ridiculed for asking, I had a long talk with my therapist AND my trainer today and I'm far more at ease. I think it just became.... Real? When we had photos. This is likely the best choice I could make and I'm ready :) I appreciate all the support and I'm excited to share our journey training this puppy as a service dog <3
Warms my heart! I know anxiety has different degrees, my Harry has helped almost 100%! I am so focused on him, I have zero time to worry about myself and my what if's!
You will do great!
If you are concerned about picking the right puppy, ask the breeder to choose for you. We didn't choose our girls. The breeder is with them day in and day out so is much more familiar with their personalities that we could have been after a visit.

As for being ready for the change, a week after getting Mady, David went out and I fell apart, with Mady barking and me standing on the sofa to escape her. I was pretty sure we had ruined our lives. I had never had a dog before. Within two years, we had three sheepies, did competitive agility and herding and therapy dog work. So if a person who had never had a dog before can do it, so can you!

As for getting ready, before we get the next puppy, I swear I will cook up a storm so that I don't have to cook for the first few weeks. I will make sure that all of the little nooks and crannies are clean. And I will not hesitate to bring out the xpen to contain the little darling when I do need five seconds to focus on something else.

It will go so fast, so try hard to take moments to just enjoy the crazy puppiness of puppies. And feel free to post any crazy question here, as we have all been there. Says the woman who called the breeder sobbing that the puppy was dying of a seizure, only to be told that it was hiccups......
I'm actually having the breeder pick for me :) she know . What I need and that way I don't get attached to one pups looks and go soley on temperament/work drive.

I LOVE the idea of cooking upna storm beforehand! I'd never thought of that!
I also never considered an xpen. We crate train, but a pen might be just what we need for smooth sailing! I love this forum :)

We crate trained too for when we left the house. the xpen was for when we were home but needed five minutes of peace!
I found crate training easy. Brushing, a fight. He is not taking to the table at all. 12 weeks old now, so getting into that puppy I don't wanna do that fun!
Puppies are almost 4 weeks old, AHHH ONE MORE MONTH!!!/
I'm getting excited for you...and sympathizing with Becky
Wonderful puppies, I love them all and would have a houseful if I could afford the food, and any vet bills that come along. xx
This will be my last for a LONG time, lol! 3 dogs is what we can afford, and I'm blessed that my S/O is so understanding and supporting of this whole thing!!/
