Need advice for purchasing a puppy

I currently own 2 rescue sheepie girls. I did have 3 until my sweet Lilly passed away from bloat exactly a week ago. My whole family’s heart is broken. I live in Charleston, SC and would like to purchase my first OES puppy. Lilly was a deaf rescue puppy which I adopted when she was 2 months old. Thanks in advance for any advice offered :wag:

A good place to start your search is here:

there is also a thread here on the forum in the buying a puppy section with lots of advice from tons of experienced oes owners. Be sure you do your homework because a high price doesn't mean a good breeder.
Good luck

getting a puppy on the index page - there are a bunch of sticky topics there - noted by the glob looking thing at the far left of the posts. Really good info- yes I know we sound radical in some of these posts. We have seen enough badly bred dogs and heard the horror stories a hundred times. Just trying to keep it from happening if we can. It can be heartbreaking, so please choose wisely.

I am making progress with the puppy search. I have now spoken with a couple of OESCA breeders that provided very sound advice. I am thinking it is very likely that it will require quite the long road trip to pick up my little one. I am just too nervous to have my puppy shipped! Am I correct to be worried about the shipping??? I have a tendacy to overthink things sometimes!
Shipping can be tough! We are also in SC and had our boy shipped from colorado last year. It was nerve wracking for sure but thankfully we had an awesome breeder with experience and everything turned out just fine. But definitely do your due diligence flight time, weather temp can make all the difference
I would try not to overthing the flight. Lots of people ship puppies. If you really have a problem with it sometimes we can get a chain going and help with transporting. I know we drove for 3 days for our last puppy and just under 24 hours start to finish for the one before him.
Some people with tell you flying a puppy isn't a good idea - I disagree. They are pretty flexible little creatures and will readjust quickly once you get them home. Just be sure you speak to the breeder and clear up any questions before hand so you aren't stressing out. Good luck!

I have flown every dog I have ever owned, from adult to puppies. Our flight times are 2 hours, with a cargo wait of at least an hour before flight. And none have been injured or overly stressed unless they already had anxiety issues (adults, not pups!) And after flights, nothing beat the doggy kisses!! But, up here, there is no road in, so it is not like I had a choice in flying them back and forth!
Thanks for all of the puppy advice. You all have made me feel much better about shipping if we decide not to go for the long road trip. I will keep everyone posted about the puppy search. My two sheepie girls are ready for a new brother or sister!
