lymphoma

My OESD Sara has been diagnosed with this cancer about a month ago, she is slowly going down hill. We have her on pain meds and a steroid to help, but her glands on her neck are swollen to the size of plumbs, large ones, and she has some diarrhea. The Vet suggested just keeping her comfortable, because of her age, which is 13 1/2. So we're trying to do that. I'm hand feeding her, and she likes ice so I make sure she gets as much as she wants.
Any tips on other methods of keeping her comfortable would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Edward,
Sorry to hear the terrible news about Sara.

I just dealt with lymphoma in my sheepie Zeke.
He was diagnosed on April 20, 2017. Had 3 rounds of chemo during May. Liver wasn't improving; he wouldn't tolerate stronger chemo.
Kept him on prednisone and Denamarin (liver supplement) the whole time.
He did great thru his chemo and right up to about July 18, 2017.
Took a little turn then and a big turn by July 21, 2017.
His nodes around his neck swelled up HUGE. He was having difficulty breathing (swelled nodes were impinging on his windpipe). Wouldn't get up, wouldn't eat anything, barely drank.
We sent him off to his next journey at the Bridge on July 23, 2017.

He was 10 years and 7 months.

Sounds like you're doing everything you can to keep her comfortable.

So sorry you have to go thru this. It truly sucks.
So sad when we have to just "go home and love them" .We do that all the time, even when they manage to turn the kitchen bin over, emptying the contents all over the floor, then just going to another room as if nowt to do with him!!

I am so sorry that you are going through this. While 13 and a half is a grand age, it is still not long enough. I hope that things go as easily for you all as possible.
Well Sara didn't make it. It's crushing me (us) but on Wednesday we had to give up our selfishness no let her go to a more peaceful place.
I can't fill that hole in my life with anything, nothing will take her place!
Almost 14 years of everyday companionship...gone...it's going to takes along time...
Edward
So sorry about Sara.

Believe me, I KNOW first hand how hard it is.

It's surreal when they're not around.
It WILL take a long time to accept it. I still find it weird that Zeke isn't around. And I still want to know why and how he contracted it.
So sorry to hear the sad new- it seems to be on the increase like in humans- very scary disease as nowt can do really . Big hugs. xxx xxx
I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. :-(
Sorry for your loss :(
I'm sorry. I've had my share of lymphoma dogs and I let them tell me when it was time. I had to separate my need for them to be with me with their need for a dignified passing. Harry was the last one to go, he fought it well, but in the end he was tired, weak, still trying to please me but he was beginning to have trouble breathing and the heat season was coming. Yes, he could have lived another month or so but at what discomfort just so my needs could be stroked. Saying good bye is AWFUL.
Totally agree with you. xx
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I can not imagine the hole left in your heart. Best wishes
