My first show with Ariel

Ariel was a freaking rock star. She remained totally chill and even took a doze in the warm up arena. Thursday and Friday nights I was a wreck. Those nights we rode in the arena which was set up. She looked at stuff but was non-reactive. Saturday morning I woke up and the first thing that came into my mind was "I get to ride Ariel in the show." I was actually excited! And calm. I didn't even want to barf. We rode 4 classes and pinned in 2. The ribbons mean nothing to me. It was all about the experience. I was kind of disappointed that we didn't pin in the poles classes since that's my favorite thing to do with her. She was a wiggle worm. But at least I stayed on course and therefore pinned higher than the rider who went off course.

As George Morris said "if horses were all about bright lights and ribbons, I would have quit a long time ago." I trusted her to take care of me and she did. That doesn't mean she was perfect. However, she is perfect in my eyes and I love that little red mare.

I decided after I lost Bob that I wasn't going to make a concerted effort to get back into horses. I was going to let events unfold. The world apparently righted itself and I found myself back taking lessons. I love riding and being around horses and the barn and the people. It's where I belong. The whole horse thing makes my world crazy, but I gotta do what I gotta do!
We all have to do that but some folk can't find what it is they gotta do!!
