Doggie Odor

I'm wondering if anyone has advice on doggie odor... do most OES's have it? What causes it (I have read that they don't have an oily coat so shouldn't have a smell. I can't pinpoint the smell ie. wet dog smell etc. just doesn't smell fresh in the sunroom where she primarily is. Any advice on how to eliminate it? She smells great for few days after groomer but then start noticing the smell. Not overwhelming but noticeable. Thanks for any insight!!!

Any itchy skin issues? Scratching may be a sign of a bacterial or yeast infection on the skin, ears or wet face. Sometimes even the girls pee on their back legs. May want to check for that. Ears are usually the culprit with the dogs we foster.
No, no itching. I really think it is a wet dog odor. I only began noticing the smell once there was snow on the ground. Georgia is obviously getting wet while running around in the snow. In the fall, the weather was beautiful here and I didn't notice the smell. Any advice on how to eliminate the smell? Candles, febreeze? I'm constantly washing her towels and bedding. I just don't want to have a doggie odor in my house. Or maybe I should expect some with an OES. Any thoughts? Thanks for your input!
Unfortunately, wet dog hair does have an odor to it, clean or not. It does go away when dry though so the answer is keep dry or dry immediately after being outside. You can try boots and snow suits if you wa t to go to the expense and effort of dressing and undressing your dog.

Our vet sells pet odor eliminator candles. They seem to do a good job.
I'm noticing the cute picture of your dogs in the snow. So, do you notice a doggie odor when your dogs have been wet? I am a first time OES owner, and my Georgia is 8 mos old. Just learning all about her. I try to towel dry her when she comes in, but I'm sure it's hard even then to completely avoid the smell. Hopefully, I am right, and it is just due to getting wet outside...and therefore, hopefully, we won't have the smell all the time. Thanks so much for you input and any advice!
There's definitely a dog odor with wet dogs, freshly bathed or in from the snow. If you have a pure wool sweater and hand wash it, it's the same sort of thing. Stinky when wet but fine when dry. Animals do have an odor about them when wet.

A nice dog dryer is worth the price. If the smell bothers you that much, you could try sprinkling a bit of corn starch or baby powder on your dog and then blowing the excess out with the dryer.
I would be interested to know more about the dog dryer. Is there a particular dryer you could recommend?
That may be worth an entirely new thread. There are many good dryers on the market that are reasonably priced. Go to www.petedge.com and check a few out. There are several other brands but Double K, Metro, B-Air and Oster are popular ones that they carry.
I'll check it out. Thank you so much!
