So hard....

I always know this day is coming, but when it's getting close it is incredibly hard. My sweet Phlufie was diagnosed with bone cancer on Friday, and already he couldn't put weight on his front left leg. Vet said this cancer progress quickly. Since he is already 12 and it might have spared, amputation or chemo wouldn't really prolong his life much and he might not make it though the surgery anyway.

I can't stop crying. He is so attached to me and I can't imaging not seeing him again. But watching him barely able to walk and dragging his leg really breaks my heart. I don't know what to do, to wait longer or let him go so he doesn't have to experience the pain getting worse.

We just went through this with Oscar in late August. It was very unexpected. He slipped and fell in the evening and won't get up. We took him to our vet the next morning as he still hadn't been able to get up. The vet was puzzled and took x-rays, which showed a lesion and a fracture in the bone at the lesion. That was on Thursday. By Monday the bone had broken completely through the lesion and his back right leg was just dangling. Our vet said he had to be in excruciating pain and the decision was made to help him cross the bridge. We felt it was the kindest thing to do. The cancer was moving so rapidly our vet felt that even with amputating the leg it was only a matter of months and his quality of life would not have been good. We miss Oscar terribly.

Our hearts go out to you right now. It is a very difficult decision, but we know you will make the right one.

Thanks Kathie. Phlufie was able to walk some yesterday and I was so happy. I know we are on the borrowed time now so I try not to leave his side. Coming to work this morning was pretty hard.

I know he is frustrated since he follows me everywhere and now I wouldn't let him off carpeted area in the fear that he might fall. I am sorry that you had to go through this and thank you for sharing with me.
 So sorry - we never want this day to come.
It's too tough - however your love for your dearest Phlufie will help you through this time.
:hearts: 12 years of affection - we love them more and more every day. :hearts:
