Skunked

I don't care much for winter, but sure happy those striped kitty cats are dormant then. Kdog went out for "last call" and came back skunked. Head/mouth shot. Washed head and chest but each time she opens her mouth...............gag!

We've been through this plenty of times with other dogs, always at night, just before bed. We have it down to a science: grab the baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap........but don't have a cure for mouth hit. I just hope she doesn't upchuck later.

Have the whole house fan on trying to encourage stink to leave, but as I said, each time she opens mouth.........Wonder if I can mouth breathe all night??

oh, yuck, poor K dog and poor you......
Think most went into her mouth. Used the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap on her head, neck and chest so she is sweet smelling on the outside, but woe if she pants! With a mouth shot, no rolling on carpets, etc, but the bathroom still stinks and I'm about ready to go swab it down, stem to stern with OdoBan. May those skunks enter hibernation SOON!!!
Firstly, I'm really glad you just posted what to do if this happens because I have skunks all over here! Next AWWW MANNN I am so sorry! Steel does the panting thing every night when we go to bed and right over the top of my head, I can't even imagine... It raises my body temp about 10 degrees. I can't think of anything safe you can do. Dogs can't gargle Listerine! How awful that must be for her. I have bats really bad right now too...Not wanting winter at all but I'm with you... some of the wild life could cut me a break and it would be much appreciated!
Ugh, I live in fear of this. We had some skunks living under our old shed (I want to tear that darn thing down but you can't tear down things when critters are nesting with babies, so not from spring to fall which leaves winter. Yes, -30 and I want to go tear down a shed....). Anyway, while we were out our neighbour's miniature daschund got through a hole in the fence, then under our shed. Took them 45 minutes to get him out. Haven't seen the skunks since! They weren't afraid of 3 big sheepdogs but the itty bitty weiner dog did the trick and they haven't been back.

As for you, can you make a toothpaste out of baking soda and water? Or at this point has it actually been ingested? Can they get sick from that? Stupid skunks.
Baking soda, tooth brush and a Water Pik, but discovered still on the muzzle........and shower curtain liner. Got in car to go to church and it smelled of skunk......please I hope they are not in the garage too hiding behind a box or some such. Nobody sat near me in church................................. :sidestep: just exposure to second hand stink from the car?? Or is it my singing :yay: :yay:

Too funny. Must have been the singing :rimshot:
Adventure with skunks. Loved your stories and really happy we don't have skunks around us, at least not the 4 legged kind. Good luck.
