New sheepdog owener

I just recently adopted a 5 year old oes. What type of geeing supplies would you all suggest? Thanks!

Goodness, that's quite a question and not easily answered. There is good info on the web, for example: http://lakesongoes.com/grooming.htm

You'll need good pin brushes, not those with rounded tips.....which is far more plentiful in pet stores than what you need. Their wire slicker brush is OK, but if you want a longer coat, you'll need to go with a longer pin brush that will get down to the hair base. I like to start with a simple boar brush to brush off dust, leaves, etc. A human hair brush works fine, but realize this is just top brushing. To keep the coat untangled you need to learn line brushing --we have instructions here in the archives. Imagine parting the hair and taking a small portion in your hand and brushing it from the base up without scratching the skin. Then moving onto the next spot. One OESer put it succinctly "every hair must be brushed." It takes time......often a lot of time of the dog is matted. In that case you'll need a mat buster or a lot of condition on the mat and a comb........and patience to work out the mat. Combs help find mats, aid in their removal. Scissors or a clipper for trimming: rear ends, hair on bottom of feet, etc.

Unless you are willing to learn this process....rather like Dave and Kim and their 3 girls.....I'd suggest considering keeping your pup in a shorter cut. It's still a sheepdog under there, full of love and mischief. Pay special attention to ear cleaning, all that hair, etc can set up some serious ear infections. And toes......my how big and thick sheepdog toe nails can get if not regularly tended. Watch the back port for dingleberries, keep the liquid spigot out back clean and trimmed, watch for goobers in their eyes..........and keep a towel handy near the water dish. These guys can make quite a mess with their beards and water.
My must have is a small pair of scissors with the rounded tips to trim ears and paw pads. Good luck. Everyone on here is very helpful to the new owners.
If you have any questions at all, just ask,,,someone with experience will be glad to help you out. I joined last year and they are all so nice and helpful. I have gotten a lot of useful info and a bunch of laughs  from the antics posted here. May you have many years of love and happiness together. :hearts: :hearts:
A silly thing but a good clothes brush to brush yourself down after having a "sheepie cuddle"xx
I've found wet hands work wonders for fast dog hair removal on human clothing.
