Safe 4th for sheepdogs

For those who have fireworks sensitive dogs, I wish you a safe next few days. Of the 30+ dogs only one loved!!! fireworks, she was enthralled......and alas, only a foster short timer......but enough to show me, some dogs don't have to go through the shakes/drools, hiding, whining. (and no she wasn't deaf) At least Kdog doesn't drool, shake, or try to crawl inside my skin

Mady was fine with fireworks until some teenager threw one in her face. Since then she prefers to be under our coffee table or under our desk. No shaking or drooling, thank heavens, and she doesn't seem to be traumatized, just a bit more relaxed in one of her hidey holes. Virginia and Gracie aren't bothered at all, thank goodness. We had our fireworks on July 1st for Canada Day and I made sure that the final bathroom trip was done well before the 10 p.m. fireworks. I really hate that stupid teenager for what he did and would like to run into him again one day....
Zeke will be fine with them.

Brick will get an alprazolam a few hours before sunset.

We had a similar experience with Tiggy.
She went from being 'whatever' about fireworks to being frightened all because of a group of inconsiderate teenagers who thought it was funny to let a large rocket off close to a dog so that they could laugh at the reaction.
We were out before it got dark to play it safe too.
Wayne was ready to chase them down too.
Throw in some thunderstorms last two days, Kdog is holding. Last night though she was most upset when I turned off the lamp to go to sleep........yes, I turned it back on. I assume she'll need a radio on for the noisiest night.
Kim, I can't believe someone did that to our Mady! I'd like to find that punk and beat the jelly out of him.

The hillbillies down the street moved and the 4th was relatively quiet without them. There were neighborhood fireworks from about 9 to 10:30 at night. They were loud, but they were pretty. Bob the Wonder Pony spent most the week of the 4th under nightly sedation. I'm so glad he and I don't have to go through that any longer.

Plus many veterans have PTSD and the noise really affects them. I think personal fireworks should be illegal.
Living just a mile from an Indian Rez means all the illegal fireworks are available. We don't have any kids around, save one house, but forgot about immature male adults. So much for not flying above 10 feet, etc. Kensie went into a corner and held as long as I was just 4 feet away, even I was getting tired of the noise. Last night we had a 2 hour thunderstorm, more cloud to cloud lightning, she became one with the side of the bed, but held. :phew: :phew: Nice having a stable dog. This morning the main problem was she doesn't like wet feet so she peed on the sidewalk. Imagine she'll pooh there as well.
We had fireworks going off about 3-4 blocks away on the night of July 4th.
They started around 11:30 PM and lasted until 1 AM.
Brick had his med onboard but it still scared him. He ran off to the basement bathroom and spent the night down there.
I called the cops and reported it.

Then there was more on the night of July 5th (Sunday) between 9 and 10 PM.
Brick DIDN'T take his med because I thought no one would do fireworks that late, on a Sunday night, after the 4th.
I gave Brick his med and he ran off to the basement bathroom and spent the night down there.

THEN, someone in the neighborhood lit off a few MORE fireworks last night (Monday, July 6th) around 10PM.
I was trying to get Brick out for the last time when they went off.
Naturally he ran back in the house.
I was able to get him out front on the leash for a pee.
No meds last night and no basement bathroom.

I hope it's done until next year.

Tried the usual route through the field the a.m. for morning pooh, LOL! Nope, took one step off the concrete and dumped. When got home about 1:30 the morning sun had dried the grass enough for a quick pee break but no running down to call dog-friend Jack. More clouds coming in from west, maybe more rain this evening. They do call this the monsoon season... Makes it humid but green :cheer:
