The board has seemed to slow down lately...any suggestions?

Hi all,

I am going to go out on the limb here and say that I have noticed that the board has really seemed to slow down a lot lately. Not really many new posts or new people contributing. It seems like the same (and very few people) seem to post. Now don't get mad at me for saying so!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions to perk this board up a bit? Come on people, let's do it!!!!!

Puppies. We all need to get new puppies and post pictures! :wag:
Kim............   waiting for puppies.......you do so well with them.

Not just this board but other boards as well. I miss so many that have moved on and wonder about their sheepies. But it is always great to hear about and see new fuzz balls. Difficulty posting pixs might be to blame?
My laptop is off getting fixed so I'm only able to log in briefly each day.
All I can say is ...
I'll be back! :D
Wonder if the Sheepie rescue groups could give out this link? Would love to follow their stories.
I think it's the lack of pictures, I only check in every few weeks now as no one is posting pictures. I like adult dog pictures as well as puppy pictures, actually I am one of the rare people who enjoy adult dog pictures more than puppy pictures.

I will get things kick started again.

It has been unseasonably warm in Calgary, it has been 23 degrees celcius and all the snow is gone but a bit muddy in places. Monty found some of that mud :D

Poor boys are not acclimatized to the warmth yet

Somebody admiring Buster's black chin so wants one of his own?

Of course a big  to Buster! sorry Monty, you get one too
I'm a huge fan of the pictures myself...That is the first thing I look for and there aren't many unless it is a holiday. LOVE pictures! I show my kids and 2 of them go on all day about them. My daughter will ask to see again sometimes. Not just sheepdogs but others too and the places everyone visits...It is great for them to see. The places you all live. It is amazing what younger people actually SEE in a photo. "Mommy is that a stove?" Things in the UK don't look the same as they do in the US. I'm amazed at how much I hang on and feel emotion for dogs and people I have never even met! Haha! I feel like Brick is my dog, almost got in my car 12 times to visit his vet myself....When I have a question I secretly hope there is one person who will answer...When I posted about my daughter I kind of felt like a turd because I was asking for a pat on the back for my little lovey but sure enough Yep I got it! This really is an all around amazing place. My kids love it and learn from it, as do I. Another thing, never made to feel stupid - I can ask or say just about anything ignorant and the responses I get are going to be non condescending and polite. That's the best because some of my questions are coming from being completely over analyzed and at 2:30am, which is ignorant in itself. You do have to jump through a hoop or 2 to get a pic on here but it isn't soooo bad. Maybe if people just knew how much other people loved to see the pics they would put more?
Without opening a can of worms, there was a big dust-up here about 3 years ago.
Not going into any details, but it seemed to me, that this site wasn't the same since then.

Don't know what you can do to fix it, other than to bring new blood in.
Well Cam Val1... that clears up a few things why some of the "old regulars" are no longer posting. Personally I can not understand what could have been sooooo bad, after all we are all OES lovers at heart. So sorry to hear that whatever happened made some valued members leave the site as we all are really just normal people sharing thoughts and ideas and trying to have fun.
I think MontyQs and Aleece are right.....lack of pictures!!!! What else generates so much feedback and remarks as pictures do! I am still having a hard time posting but as soon as I can I will! I guess I will have to embarrass myself again and ask for help from my boys...guess I grew up in the "dark ages" of computers.
How about we all start posting more pictures and as a thought ......how about posting pictures of us in them with out sheepies so we get to see each other and put a face to the name posting......just an idea!
And..Tanja....just love the pics of Buster and Monty!!

how about posting pictures of us in them

   caught look at myself in iPad camera today and was horrified.....what happened? No pixs of me! Kdog yeah.
Oh SheepieBoss....you are funny. I think it is the IPad!!!
When my son was trying to show me how to do face time on the IPad I was horrified looking down at the live picture of myself. I think there must be something wrong with the camera....wouldn't you agree having the same experience yourself.... :D

:sidestep:
I don't even need to have an I pad to experience that, got a bathroom mirror that tells all........
With the iPad you are looking down so gravity comes into play. Years and years of skiing, forestry, horticulture under high elevation sun and no sun screen has those spots becoming visible. Do I have to wear make up now???
Gravity has definitely come into play and not just looking down at the IPad

SheepieBoss....Sounds like you have had a very active outdoor lifestyle. What kind of skiing? Down hill or cross country? I use to love to downhill ski but after 3 knee surgeries I have all but given up on that sport. Now days I find myself protecting myself from the 2 meathead sheepies when they come barreling at me at dinner time. Same problem too....lack of sunscreen while enjoying all the outdoor sports.

When I was whining to my friend about growing old and looking it, she reminded me that there are so many people that only wish they had the opportunity to grow old and gray but due to sickness and health issues may never have that opportunity. It put things into perspective for me. Now my sagging body parts don't bother me (as much)!!!
Down hill mostly, but I worked with a lady who was Norway's national cross country ski champion..........so many years ago. I couldn't even spell her name now, if I even remember it correctly. Every day she'd ski up the mountain (where a well known ski area is now located but hadn't been built yet) and back down. She encouraged me to go with her. HA! If it wasn't flat I wasn't doing cross country. Could never master that Telemark turn with that raised heel.

Skiing long off the table........when we had to start buying tow tickets. Tow tickets were free as husband was the district ranger. Even before marriage I got daily free tow tickets due to where I worked. After we moved away, skiing would have become something one day a week, not daily. Now I gasp at the prices......no way! Skiing was off the table before the knees when to hell.

As for dogs and knees, yep. I can deflect from the front but those clipping shots from the back, ouch!

I always like a "tanned" face even until my 50's when I started noticing changes in skin coloring. Have an 80 year old friend who is Irish heritage bit must have had some Spanish Armada survivors in her heritage as she tans dark every summer and still no spots.

Living in the desert doesn't help with wrinkles, LOL!

Still won't acknowledge grey hair as I continue to bleach blonde. It is getting a bit silly now.

Sagging body.....there isn't anything anymore that isn't sagging......let me check the bottom of my feet.......
I'm a regular on a few boards (mainly horse boards) and the traffic on those has been slowing down over the years. I think a lot has to do with people posting on Facebook and other "instant" social media. I've been here for about 10 years and I don't remember any one event that drove posters away. But I also think the difficulty of posting pictures here is an issue.
That's another good one SheepieBoss......Sagging body.....there isn't anything anymore that isn't sagging......let me check the bottom of my feet.......

I know, it is a shame about the prices of lift tickets...heck even when my boys want to go tubing or snowboarding it is just as expensive. It really doesn't allow the younger kids to really get into this sport very much between college expenses, car payments, etc. not much left over for a "want" rather than a "need". It is a shame for the kids, skiing certainly has more thrills that playing games on the PlayStation.

It is also a shame that posting pictures is such a pain like Paul O. and others have said. There are a few on the board that seem to have the knack of it like Aleece, MontyQs and Nonc's mom. I am always taking pictures and videos of the constant antics of my crew with my IPad or phone that I would love to post but never seem to get right.... then I get frustrated and stop.

I remember reading a post by Ron saying it was a huge job to fix the problem. I just wish there was a simple way of doing it for us computer challenged people (that's the end result of having a secretary that took care of all that stuff for me)!!! Now I am paying the price.... :cow:
For posting pics, I just upload mine to PhotoBucket.
Once you upload the pic, you then hover over the gear icon on the pic, choose "Share", then single left click on the "Direct" field.
That will copy the picture location onto your clipboard.

Then you come into your post on OES.org, click on the [IMG] icon, and paste the picture location between the image tags.
Thank you Mark...I will have to get one of my sons to show me how to do what you mentioned. I would love to be able to post pictures without having a fit trying.
Can you store videos on Photobucket and share the same way? My friend took a 10 second video of me riding (yes, I'm back in the saddle, no I didn't buy a horse), emailed it to me but I have no way of sharing other than email. It's an MPG4 file.
I'm not sure Paula.
I've never tried.

I've always uploaded my videos to YouTube.

Testing CamVal1 's way of posting a picture?!
Well that was easy enough! Thanks Mark!
Nice Spaniel!
Well I don't use PB but how do you post your pics. It seems like a pain in le butt
I think some of the slow down is definitely about people migrating to popular social platforms like Facebook & Twitter.. probably others as well. I used to be on quite a few message boards, all of differing subject matter, and they are all down in attendance and activity.

I miss a lot of the people here. Yes I like the pictures, but I used to check in and post because I had (and still have) friends here. But a good deal of them rarely post, some of them don't post at all, and I think its hard to maintain the sense of community with so many people gone.

That being said, I'm still here, even if I post less often than I used to.
I miss the people who used to post a lot too Alison.
I think it was the regular posts and knowing who and what as happening in their lives as a result of those posts.
I sure am glad that you're still around and the other oldies who I won't name 'cause I'll miss someone.
And it's nice to have new regulars who post so we can get to know them too.

so just playing around to see if i can get this to work it worked,,,mama kitty and babies....aka Tinsleys baby kitties

This is Tinsley 16 months old,,,65 lbs before summer haircut.....
I'm still around here, I just don't post often. I'm rather out of Internet communication because I've been doing it for so long. I'm a member of a few Facebook groups for dressage horse sales, but that's about it. By the time I get home from work I'm too sick of computers to turn it on for pleasure. I think I've just gotten burned out with the Internet. But this is still my favorite group.

Actually I've never used Photo Bucket before myself. I just signed up when I posted the picture, It's really not hard to do. Give it a try.
