New laptop

Yesterday my laptop make funny noises and wouldn't turn on. I had a sinking feeling it was time for a new laptop. Geek Squad diagnosed a bad motherboard (like Shaft?) so I have a new Toshiba. It's pretty no frills but I don't need anything fancy. Now I just have to get used to a new keyboard.

Next will be a new tv. I have my mom's which is at least 5 years old. I want the kind that will take the ChromeCast stick so I can stream. I'm still in the 20th century!

Movin up? Our TV is nearly 25, so no streaming. The picture is rather red, but still recognizable plus I don't watch much. The VCR sits unplugged and neither of us wants to get down there and plug it in, I'm not sure I could even do it anymore. I did put the computer on WiFi in hopes of adding other "toys" but my first attempt beyond the computer, an ereader, won't work. Now asking self what other toy I want and what size. iPad but don't want to spend the $$. Tablet? Little laptop?? maybe even join the late 20th century with a smart phone. So way behind you in the e-era. Enjoy your new toy.
My father was into computers before most people knew what they were. And though not a software engineer, he did write code for his job. One of his first computers was the size of a suitcase and very heavy. I inherited his love of technology.

I have a laptop, with a solid state hard drive for durability. I was lucky enough to get a touch screen included. My husband volunteered to replace it at Christmas, but I love what I have. I've learned over the years to backup weekly, and even have a backup of my backup. The end of January, I started having issues with it not charging. Dell diagnosed it over the phone as a motherboard issue - the computer was dead by then. Replacing a laptop motherboard is a pain in the neck, so I also paid for a guy to install it. When the part arrived and guy came out, he thought it was a simple power-plug-that-attaches-to-the-motherboard issue. I got a refund for the motherboard, so the part and two service calls was $100. Cheap.
It is funny that you would bring up the laptop. congrats on buying one I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I was just talking to Chuck yesterday about using my tablet more and putting my laptop away. Trying to move along with everyone else. I was proud of myself when I stopped using a mouse a few years ago. lol I do have an Iphone, and I use it like a computer, still working on the picture/gallery part. That is always my weakness.

Good luck and enjoy!
I have a laptop, and iPad and a Nexus. I like the laptop for deep searching, downloading, and doing financial transactions. I would never trust my tablets as far as security goes. If I had to pick one to keep, it would be the laptop.
