Allergy

PLEASE can someone advise.
I have been suffering from according to my doctor a severe allergy. This has gone on now for years and eventually with tests put down to dust, allergy to chickens and my goats. No longer own any of these animals and felt fine.
I have a golden retriever aged 7yrs and fine with her and her fur even when brushing although sometimes can start my asthma off. Ut not that often so manageable.
When I had the chickens and goats I suffered badly with swollen eyes, itchy nose and very swollen hands if I touched them.
I have a 14month oes. Everything I thought was fine but all my symptoms seem to becoming back when I am too close to her. Brushing her is really getting to me and she has been twice to the groomers for her bath/groom.
Last night she jumped up on sofa onto me something she doesn't do always does to my hubby and he sits and cuddles her. Well within a few seconds and I mean a few seconds my breathing was terrible and my eyes just bloomed. Today still not 100% but fine around her if she not near my face just on floor. Not touched her today which I feel sad about but I darent at the moment. I know her fur is different to my golden retriever who causes me no problem so what is in her fur like my goats and chickens to cause this trouble.
Love her she is adorable but when out of breath and a swollen face/hands etc feel so sorry I can't play with her. :lmt: :lmt:

ask your dr. how he feels about a shot of cortisone. fixed my severe hayfever w/o any side effects.
Wondering if her fur is picking up something outside and that is what is causing you problems now. Possibly think about going and getting tested again. We can develop different allergies as we age. I had to take allergy shots twice a week then once a week then every two weeks etc. It really helped. That was about 15 years ago and they said I was allergic to my cats but I was not giving them up. There is also a lot of great rx out now that was not available back then. Lots of people use Zyrtec and it does not make them sleepy. Good luck. Hope you can find something that helps. Have you noticed if it is seasonal? That would lead me to believe she is picking up something on her hair and that is what you are reacting to. May have to have her in a shorter coat and more frequent baths.
My son and I are bad allergy sufferers. I will try to leave out the not necessary facts..... when it comes to pets, we are both allergic to dogs. I manage well while using common sense. Bathe frequently and hand and face washing frequently. My pet allergies have lessened with age. My son on the other hand receives 2 shots every 3 weeks. Again, with responsible behavior we do alright. I am posting because no one mentioned the pet saliva and I wondered it maybe that might be the case here and you just hadn't thought of it because with an OES the hair is just so obvious. My son is highly allergic to the saliva and secondary dander. Both are manageable once you figure out what the culprit is.
It is Highly unlikely that you are allergic to the fur, that is really pretty rare.
What you may be allergic to is the dander; oil and skin shedding daily just like
in people. Consistent daily grooming and vacuuming can help a lot, but it sounds
like you may have a pet allergy. I agree with the above that it could be an
allergy from something the dog is bringing in on his fur as well. You will only
know for sure if you are able to eliminate and be tested.
You could also see a Dr about how to treat this if it can't be eliminated. OTC drugs
may work fine but I'd ask a Dr first. There may be a combination solution he can
suggest.

Good luck to you!

As a lifelong allergy sufferer (seriously, I used to get benadryl injections as an infant), I would suggest getting retested.

I am actually on my third round of allergy shots. They seem to work well for around 15 years, then I have to repeat them for around 3 years. They make a huge difference for me. I ended up allergic to cats on the last tests - we have three of them and I am not giving them away. The shots have really helped, though it can take 6 months to know if they are working.
In case it is environmental based, not dog dander, wipe her down with a damp cloth when she comes in the house. A shorter coat would help with this.
