Anyone's dog ever give them stitches?

The boys and I were roughhousing on the floor this morning when I took either a claw or a tooth to the bottom of my chin.

At first I thought it was a scratch. That was, until the blood started dripping.

I got it to stop, put a bandage on it & went to work.
It started bleeding again so I called the doc. They got me right in.

Doc looked at it and said, yeah, it could use 3 or 4 stitches.
Asked if I wanted to see a plastic surgeon. I asked what he would do differently than the GP. He said "nothing really".
I didn't want to drive to a hospital, then wait for HOURS to see a plastic surgeon, etc.

He stitched me up right in the office. The whole thing only took an hour. I think there's 4 or 5 stitches.

I'm back at work now.

I take an antibiotic twice a day today and the following 2 days and the stitches come out Monday afternoon.

Never a dull moment with the Dynamic Duo. :)

Oliver helped me break my leg a number of years ago. I was attempting to wipe up some water from his drizzle puss. He spun around fast and hard and nailed me with his butt. Of course in the ER they always think it's their business to know how it happened. He was very helpful prior to having a hip replaced. I was always dropping things and it was hard to bend and pick up. On his own, Oliver would come in front of me, brace himself and let me lean on him to pick up whatever I dropped. S I would hug and thank him, he would run off. He is such a good boy. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

That was another reason I didn't want to go to the hospital/ER.
I'm sure some of my knee problems can be blamed on the dogs, nothing like being blindsided. No stitches, but fully understand caught tooth or nail. Friend has hand problems thanks to her Great Pyr male who was in guardian mode when she tried to pull him away and he nailed her. Required surgery to fix tears inside.

I've had dogs as "helpers" but this one is still in training. She will stand and let me support myself but when she's decided I'm up and stable, she's off to the cookie jar for her reward.

In fairness to ERs they are watching for signs of abuse, dementia, animal attack, or just being lied to. Some injuries don't match the story.
ER's may be watching out for abuse etc and I get that, but they also like to have something to discuss and laugh about.
Benson gave me a chipped tooth once. And my favorite kitty gave me cat-scratch fever.

Never a dull moment with our furbabies. Hope you feel better, and keep that chin clear of the boys for a while!

:wag:
Mine never gave me stitches, but they keep me IN stitches...

Our first oes was eating supper one night, being Tossed his food by our granddaughter. We didn't know at the time this was happening but he must have gone for a bite and caught her upper lip. You could tell it wasn't a bite but his tooth ripped the skin. Of course she had to go for stitches and Apache got quarantined at home but he never bit anyone.

She understood what happened and wasn't afraid of him at all.
Hope you feel better!

Yes, my mother was a Delivery room and newborn nursery nurse..........she had plenty of stories.
And a plastic surgeon would have cost you a fortune, and not covered by insurance.
A scar can be quite sexy...........

Chicks dig scars. :)

Just need a better story than "my dog scratched me"

Should tell people I was in a knife fight.
Forgot I took a picture.

This is 5 days after the "incident", just before the stitches came out.

16 days later, you can barely even see it.
Still hesitant to shave. Don't want to open it up. I've just been using my trimmer to knock the growth down.
AWWWWww..you poor thing.....But that will teach you to stay away from the dynamic duo when they are roughhousing.....

(((I got the bottom half of my lip bit OFF by a neighbors dog as she was holding him and told me I could kiss him, if I wanted to.....and when I came up on my tippy toes for that kiss (I was about 7), "Trina" decided to bite !!!!!!......well....my grandmother and her 'ladyfriends' had to find my lip in the grass so the plastic surgeon could graphed it back on and hoped it would take....and it did!!!!!))

So....Mark...I DO feel your pain!!!!!!!!!

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: HEEL (heal)!!!!!!!
^^^^Wow, Val.
Helene, my sheepie puppy, knocked me down 22nd of July causing me to have a compound fracture of my right wrist. I had to have surgery and a plate put in my wrist, so I guess you can say she did indeed cause me to get stiches. sigh
Well Mark, If you don't want to tell how it REALLY happened, my standard answer is bar fight and keep a straight face.

Absolutely.
Except I'll follow it up with, "you should have seen the other guy". :)
