Steel neuter and gastropexy and and and

My computer has been out for going on 3 weeks now. The fix it guy no called/ showed 3 times, I finally got another one to come and he said time to get a new one! I have been using one of my son's laptops but what that means is all of my saved passwords are gone so I couldn't get on here easily. It finally dawned on me I could just reset it as I did because I needed to vent to "real" people so bad I could just bust! I don't know how I am going to explain this all without turning this into a novel but I will try. First, Steel is 6 mo in a few days. You all know what neuter is, Gastropexy is the surgery in which the pylorus is sutured to the body wall to prevent rotation and bloat. It gives you time to get your babe emergency care. My goal being both surgeries one knock out. I don't know if I have mentioned Steel has a habit of sucking and swallowing socks. Not chewing and not just anything, just socks. He doesn't poo them out 2 or 3 days later like a normal puppy he keeps them in his tummy for 2 or 3 weeks and then nonchalantly pukes them like yeah oh well. He has done it 5 times now and that has been with eagle eyes all over him! He has pulled them out of the pockets of my bath robe hanging in my closet! Anyway, because of my life style and how he eats I didn't want to prolong the gastropexy and because of the down sides of speeding up the neuter I didn't want to move that up so the timing was right HOWEVER.....They ran the blood work and his liver ALT was elevated and something else to do with the liver I don't know I was in the frozen pizza aisle of the grocery store trying to get all of my errands done because I knew I wouldn't be leaving the house once he came home! This was the surgeon telling me this not my vet she had driven in to do the gastropexy. I was already sobbing from leaving him at the vet to begin with and now here I go again in the pizza aisle. I do great if I have a computer in front of me and books and I can do research but not liking having to take someones word and having to make snap decisions. Finally she said "if it was my dog" I told her thank you and she proceeded from there with she needed to do an ultrasound and then my mind went blank again and I told her I was on my way and she said I needed to take him to the hospital where all the equipment was. I told her about his sock fetish and asked if that could impact his levels/numbers and she said she would keep that in mind. I got there and he had a mass in his stomach a mass on his liver, the surgeon who is great and kind (please remember this) is telling me about tumors and cancer and enlargements and she just doesn't understand because he is so healthy looking and so happy and I yelled IT'S A SOCK! Maybe 2! I have had this argument with my vet, he is special, it doesn't come out his bum and it doesn't come out in the normal time span! He poo's and pee's and eats and is otherwise fine so knock on wood I don't worry. We may not always be so lucky that's why take every precaution to try to prevent it. Moving on....On to the hospital. About 1/2 way there Steel pukes the sock in my truck! I walked in holding it and the staff was disgusted. SO. The surgeon laughed her butt off, she said I guess you were right. His levels were still elevated she went ahead with the surgeries, including a liver biopsy. She said I don't expect to have another reason to be in his abdomen so while I'm in there I'm going to check to be sure to rule out any other issues. She said it appeared to be normal and will have the results near the end of this week. He had to stay the night. AWFUL! She kept complimenting him saying she thought she might take him home with her. I felt good that he had 24 hour care but the vet techs were just duh! O.k. compared to the girls at MY vet office. The surgeon kept saying he was a "crazy" puppy. Steel is one of the calmest pups EVER! They had him in a crate with people walking in and out constantly!!!!! He had an IV and a catheter!!!! Lets not forget the Cone. Steel knows EVERY person was put on this earth to pet him, I can only imagine what he thought of all those people walking past him and not petting him!

He is home now and EVERY person is petting him! Everything looks good and works good but he seems to be a bit uncomfortable. He is shaved completely bald from his boobies/armpit all the way down to his bumhole. Even his whole penis is shaved bald. I'm getting they need it sanitary but if that isn't bothering him yet I know it's going to. I tried looking for knicks and he is not all that willing to let me see so for now my main concern is just looking for swelling and infection on or near the incisions. He laid on my lap for 3 hours yesterday. He never does that...He is always too hot. I finally had to get up to go to the bathroom but I felt horrible for making him move. He is bruising the backs of my legs with that cone. I will be so glad when this is over. 7 more days!

Poor Steel, he must feel rough. And that impacts the whole house. :ghug:

Lots of treats and loving for the next few days :hearts:
Have you considered changing his name to Socks? Poor pup. Hope all is well and he stops the sock gobbling soon.

Condolences to you with the E-Collar bruises, been there many times.
Surgeon/hospital and my vet all calling to check on him...yesterday was rough. The surgeon said I could up his pain meds to 3 times a day instead of 2 times a day. Sonny is trying to lick his incisions for him since the cone is preventing him from doing it himself. Sonny is now grounded and in big trouble so that is handled! Haha! As of this morning my sweet Steel is sooooo much better. He is using the cone like a shovel with the snow flicking it all over. I had the hood of my coat up over my head and he gave me his sweet head tilt which I haven't seen in days and looked at me like wow mom you have a cone on your head too! He is being a bit of a bully like he doesn't want the other dogs near me - barking at them and talking to them. I don't know if it's because he is high from the meds or if it's just because he is just all together off but I'm very happy he is feeling better. As for adjusting his name......I thought stomach made of Steel was fitting! Haha! But yes frustrating that he keeps outsmarting me and all of my tricks to keep the socks away He had the nerve to reach into the dryer one time while I was folding clothes - thought he would just take one that way. I'll figure him out...If it's the softner, the texture....Hopefully just puppy and he will outgrow and not develop into jeans!
