Jessy peeing again

I had replaced my carpeting yesterday due the manufactures faulty work. Jessy [51/2 old male] was in the bedroom with my 4 yr old cocker and myself while the rest of the apt was done. 4 hours later, just about the time Jessy would be walked, he started to pee right in front of me. I shouted NO! and ran him downstairs where he completed the peeing. I gave him a treat and praise at this time. 1 hour later he peed again. This time I was not witness to it, so I couldn't do anything about it. Is this because the carpet is changed?? Stange men in the house? Being kept in one room for 4 hours? He does not have a uti....actually finished a 2 week course of Ditrim for strep in his urine. I am taking in a urine sample Tuesday for conformation that the uti is gone.
Thanks for your quick reply.

Time for a Belly Band since you can't trust the guy right now. When you find out why then you can discontinue use.
Belly Band????He is only 51/2 months old. I guess i forgot to say that
Depends on your tolerance for peed-on carpet. Maybe having the band about him will make him think twice about peeing indoors. Yes, he's still young, he may be a slow learner.
thank you...I will try the belly band. What age should they be TRAINED by? Could all the activity with putting down the carpet, thebanging, and 2 strangers in the house have anything to do with it? He is not yet neutered. One vet tells me to wait until he is 18 months old. Another vet says at 6 months. For an oes, what is the ideal age considering the building of muscle and bones?
Yes, excitement, lack of a firm schedule will delay the brain from making the connection. Waiting for him to ask may not work, you must take the lead and take him out before he realizes he has to pee. Even old Kdog here rarely has to ask because we have a schedule. If we accidently get busy, we get a paw, "I really have to go!"

I would wait until a year or so before neutering. Several here have intact males who are entering "mature" ages. It depends on your training. Don't let the testicles be an excuse. Of course retaining the "dangles" means your responsibility is ramped up.......seeing he doesn't get nuts with a whiff of some hot chick and dash out the door. Training, training, training. Not reaction training but anticipation training.

Come one year or so you will be able to forget all these puppy angsts.
Thank you for your quick reply. I was hoping he just wasn't forgetting his training. I am very strict with his training. This week I have extended it [starting today] from 4 hour intervals to 5 hours. He is now 51/2 months old...will be 6 months 11/22. Is this a good time table? I am not in a rush to have him neutered. He is not lifting his leg on any furniture or making small pees around the house. He is carefully watched and cannot go chasing the GIRLS.
Thanks again,
Ellen Ozzie and Jessy
generally we don't ask Kdog to wait more than 7 hours..........sometimes we are gone 10 hours and she is fine. So gradually extending the time is fine as long as he is dry and can move up an hour. You train them not to lift.
