Chicagoland/Wisc SheepieFest2! first alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all! Its time, once again, to start planning for SheepieFest2!

This years SheepieFest, will be held Sunday, October 2nd, at VanPatten woods in Zion, IL. Zion is about 10 minutes south from the Wisc border, and about 40 miles north of Chicago.

We will be back at the same forest preserve as last year.

No formal plans have been set yet, we just got the date.

If you are interested please email me offline debcram@yahoo.com

I hope we see all the same faces from last year and a lot of new ones!

More info to follow! :P

Deborah, Pirate and Keira

PS...You don't need a sheepie to attend...just a love for our wigglebutts!
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
I can't wait. Winston is now 8 months old. It will be fun to see other sheepdogs. Count me in. it sounds like a lot of fun.
Aww!!!! I wanna go! But all my time off is being eaten up by the house... 2 states away huh... Hmmmmmm. It is only 45 minutes to chicago by air....

I'll have to think about this!

Karen :)
Karen, that would be so cool! But if you fly in, try to fly to Milwaukee. Its closer to the area we'll be in then O'hare.

Its really fun. We had close to 30 sheepies involved last year. That was over 2 days.

There is so much to do here that time of year too.

Hope you can make it.

Anyone interested, please email me your email addresses, so we can stay in touch.

SHEEPIES RULE!
Deborah, Pirate and Keira (who is a pretend-a-sheepie
)

debcram@yahoo.com
OHHHHH! We really want to come! Ontario is sooooooooo far! Gucci George is from Chicago! We need a Sheepie Bus like the one that goes to the NEOES picnics for us Ontarians! Any takers?

Colleen and Gucci George=>I want to go to the Windy City and feel the wind in my hair Mommy!
Colleen and Gucci! Last year there was a dog at the fest that Pirate really took a liking to. As her owners and I talked, it turned out Pirate and Chelsea are brother/sister from different litters!!!!!

So darlin' Gucci...if you are from the city of big shoulders (Chicago) you could run into some relatives too! Now, I'm not promising thats a good thing  ! Ya know, as they used to say when I was a kid, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your relatives! HA HA.

If we get lots of folks from far away, we'll turn this into a two day fest!

Deborah, Pirate and Keira
So if Colleen and Gucci George come maybe Toby and I can make it too!
Clyde and I want to go and I'll bet Jil and Bentley would too!
This so soooooooooooooo exciting! I have information on dog-friendly hotel/motels in the area.

Again, email me for that info.

Deborah, Pirate and Keira ( :( mama, can I go, even though I'm not a sheepie?)
OH! I'm going to Mapquest this area! Just to see how far of a drive it really is! This would be so fun! And Gucci George says that he's only going to go if his brother Toby is! He also said he would bring the Chinese Food?!

Colleen and Gucci George=>999,999 bottles of beer on the wall.....
Colleen-

Even if you can make it to Michigan (the Windsor border), maybe you could meet up with Clyde and I and go with us.

Jill
Chinese Food? YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you'd better come!

Deborah, Pirate and Keira
OH Jill, thanks! I will consider that! I just MapQuested it and it's only a 13 hour drive! :? I, as well as Gucci George have NO PROBLEM with this! It's just going to be convincing Grant (husband) that this is the best idea ever! Well let's see, It's July 19 and we would have to leave for sure on the 1st of October, so let's do the math :| That's 75 days of "can we go to Sheepiefest, please, please?"

I just know we can crack him! He's out of town this week, but sooooo sorry for him, he carrys a cell! I will start my 1st CAN WE GO right now! And keep you all posted!

Colleen and Gucci George=>MOMMY! Take a picture of my cute begging face and email it to DADDY!
DAY 1: Can we go to Sheepiefest please, please.

This was responded with a giggle, which is really a good sign, considering he is in the middle of checking out a restaurant we are building, that is behind in construction and it's really hot outside(needless to say the airconditioning is not hooked up) and then a "MAYBE".

This is a very postive sign! And it is only day one!

Perhaps I will double my efforts, to twice daily, giving me 147 more times he will have to hear that!

Wish me luck!

Colleen and Gucci George=>Careful this doesn't backfire Mommy, if you drive Daddy nuts and we cannot go...I will mope FOREVER!!!!
I hope y'all be reppin' for oes.org†. (See how hip I am? I just hope I got it right. )

Ron: so you never have to think about being hip, just go to www.gizoogle.com

Here's the forum page through the translator:
http://sites.gizoogle.com/?url=http://forum.oes.org/

It's always worth a laugh or 2 to try it with different Web pages.
Ron...I think you should plan on coming. Tony and I will take you to the Brat Stop for a brat and some cheese curd!

Deborah, Pirate and Keira
Hi Deborah! I just took my AZ family to Chicago and Wisconsin for the first time last week. They were properly impressed by the large quantity of brat/hot dog shops and cheese stores! I wish I could bring Bailey to the sheepie fest, but it's too long a trip for us, so have a Leinie in our honor :D
711 Miles, 11 hours by car.
Do you think that if I put clothes on the dogs they'll let them sit in the seats on an airplane?

"Don't make fun of my children! It's a medical condition. It's not their fault that they're furry!" I don't think it'll fly either. I kill me!

Guess it looks like a roadtrip, as long as I can get off work. Maybe I could just forward the phones to my cellphone. Hmmmmm
Bad timing work wise, but Bentley & I will be there.

We could caravan!

Mandy, if you forwarded the phones, you could honestly say "No, this is NOT 911!"
Something to think about. :)
Should I take a half day off that Friday?
You should take the whole day off regardless.
Don't know if I can do that. It's the first day of the month . . . bad day for the accountant to take off.
Well Deb you might have to give a prize to the sheepie that comes from the farthest to the sheepiefest in October.
I can help you in anyway I can to make this a success since I see that you live in the northern suburbs of Chicago also. Just send me a message and let me know what I can do.

Mary
Hendrix and I aren't far from Zion. We hope to be there!
We are starting to put stuff together! Yes, we will have a contest for the sheepie (and/or person) that has traveled the farthest. And several other contests up our sleeves.

And did I mention, there isn't any entry fees, or fees at all??? This is all being done for the love of sheepies!

We also have a groomer coming for a demo. And we have a trainer coming to answer questions and give advice.

There is still tons more in the works. PIRATE AND I ARE SO EXCITED!!!!! We had to promise Keira she could come too, or else she said she'd eat the cat

Love to get your emails so I can keep in touch with all of you who are considering coming.

Oh yes....did I mention food??????? Yep! Lots o' food!

Deborah, Pirate and Keira
Deb,

I'm so excited! This would be great -- I'm in the Western Burbs from Chicago... would love to come. Count me in to help out wherever necessary!

Michelle
Lots of great stuff is starting to fall into place for SheepieFest! 2005. We've had a great, fabulous, talented, wonderful, spectacular artist offer to create a special sheepie design just for us!!!!

Also, we have a wonderful person offering to setup a website for SheepieFest! !

Please remember, there is NO FEE to attend. This is all donated through wonderful people dedicated to the happiness of sheepdogs! All the food will be pot luck and dishes to share. None of this is about about money. Its "All about the sheepies" and our love of sheepies.

We're having a big meeting Saturday to firm up some ideas we have, so stay tuned for details next week!!!

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deborah, Pirate (not as excited as me. mama!) and Keira
I got Friday off and I bet I could get Monday off too if I take a page from Colleen's book!
Jil, you should take Monday off for driving home. Sheepiefest is on Sunday.
I think it is working! I'm just not sure if I'm driving Grant so nuts that he'll just hide come the day or if I'm cracking him just enough to actually come with us to SHEEPIEFEST2!!!

One of my girlfriends has offered to be a backup to come with us! So I think I'm almost all covered! Keep you all posted! :D

Colleen and Gucci George=>I'm being a REALLY good boy! Just trying to help daddy make up his mind!
Hello Fellow Sheepie Lovers,

The 2005 Sheepiefest is currently being organized and will be held at Van Patten Woods, in Wadsworth, IL October 2ndth. We will be in Shelter D (for dog). A map with directions can be located on the internet at:

http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cf ... 215&type=P

The picnic will be a one day event. (If we have a lot of out of towners coming in on Saturday, we can arrange something, less formal, for Saturday). We will meet from 10:00 am until 3:00 or so but you are welcome to come on out earlier in the morning. In case you will need hotel/motel accommodations here is a link for a Pet Friendly guide to assist you in making those accommodations.

http://www.1clickpethotels.com/illinois.htm

Deboral Jacobson suggests the Residence Inn in Waukegan. It is within 15 minutes of the Forest preserve. If there is enough interest we could see about obtaining a group rate.

If you are not familiar with the area, Lake County is rich with fun things to do for both adults and kids. Great America theme park is right there and at the time of the picnic the park’s Frightfest will be in full swing. There is also a huge outlet mall, Gurnee Mills. So if you do stay overnight, you should find lots of things to do to keep busy.

As for the picnic itself, we thought a “bring your own” would probably work best. And if everyone brings along a dish to pass, we would have plenty of food for everyone. Deborah says for the out of towners--- there are plenty of grocery stores and deli counters, as well as the usual fast food places in the vicinity of the Forest Preserve. If you would like us to keep a listing of the items people are planning to bring we could do just that. Then we could then keep you informed of what is still needed. There are also bbq grills available at the shelter, and we are planning on bring hot dogs. We are looking for someone to volunteer to bring buns and cook the hot dogs. Anything else you’d like bring to grill, the grill will be available to everyone.

This year we are planning a grooming seminar and we expect to have a professional dog trainer on site for part of the day. So start jotting down your grooming and training questions. We just want to have fun with our sheepies and get to know other fanatical sheepie folks. There will also be a representative there from Wisconsin Rescue to chat with us, and answer any questions you may have about rescue.

There will be Agility Trials going on both Saturday and Sunday so you might want to watch the participants and cheer on all sheepies running in the trials. Who knows, you might even be bitten by the agility bug!

We will be having some silly contests, and giving away prizes. All prized are being donated. If you have something you’d like to donate, please let us know. Kathy and Deborah are once again providing bandanas for all the dogs, sheepie or non.

Now for the disclaimer, we are riding on the coattails of Fundog Agility Group’s trial. We ask that you do not get in the way of the participants. Please do not use any of the agility equipment and if your dog has issues with any other dogs, please keep a tight rein on their leashes. It might also be a good idea to make sure your dogs shots are current and that you have used a good flea and tick preventative. We will be out near the woods and we just want all the dogs to be safe. The persons planning the Sheepiefest are not affiliated with any organized Old English Sheepdog Clubs, either locally or nationally. This event is all about the sheepies!

Please RSVP to Deborah debcram@yahoo.com so we can keep count of how many to expect.

Also, as we get closer, some plans be added, some changed and we'd like to be able to email you with the changes.

Can't wait to see y'all out there!

The thought of being in brat and cheese central sold Ronnie. Count us in. Sounds like a lot of fun. We haven't been anywhere in ages.
omg how did i miss this post!!!!
we are sooooo there! woohoo!! :clappurple:

EDIT!!!!!!!!

as the results of the ever increasing costs of gas, the decision is pending on whether we will be able to attend or not
Welcome to the count down to SheepieFest! 2005. SheepieFest! is only a couple weeks away and we are all getting really excited to see old friends and welcome new friends. It is being held Sunday, October 2 in Van Patton Woods, in Zion, IL.

This year we have been gifted with our own adorable logo. He was donated to our group by artist and very great lady, Michelina. She has become a friend of SheepieFest!, even though, she lives out East. AND! She’s promised she will come out for next year’s event. To see more of her work, go to www.sheepiedreams.com

I have ordered sheepie treat canvas bags from Michelina, with our (oh, I love that it’s ours!) logo on it. They are 6x9 and just adorable. We are selling them for $15.00 each. That includes taxes and shipping. If you would like one you can send a check made out to me, as I’ve fronted the money. Now for the very cool part. Any and all profits will be donated to OES rescue. There will only be a limited number available, and they must be purchased before SheepieFest!. The reason is that, we will celebrating sheepdogs in a forest preserve and absolutely no money transaction can take place there. If you want one, please mail your check to:
Deborah Jacobson

Gurnee, IL 60031
Please state how many you’d like, and if you’d like me to mail them to you, or if you will pick them up at SheepieFest!.

They are a one of kind art work, and just plain cute!

I’ve also been contacted by Shawn and Laura Ehrke of the Barrington Barkery. It’s a delightful doggie boutique in Barrington, IL. They have generously offered to supply us with some delicious doggie cookies for our event. Huge thank you goes out to Shawn and Laura. I had the pleasure of talking with Shawn on the phone, and not only is he a terrific guy, he’s a dog lover..and you know, that means so much. Please visit their website at www.barringtonbarkery.com.
They have also offered us their store (which has a park like area) if we decided we’d like to do a Holiday Party. Hmmmm….something to think about!

Karen from Michigan wrote me to tell me she’s found another sheepdog friendly hotel, right here in Gurnee. The room rate is $74.00 per night.
Baymont Inn and Suites

Although I’ve never been in there, I drive by it often and it looks really nice. So, there’s another option for you.

If you are coming from out of state, and coming in early, please let me know, and we can set up a dinner for Saturday night. I have heard, we are having people from WI, IN, MI, MO and even Canada! How cool is that?

Some of you have asked if you can contribute $$$ towards SheepieFest!. The answer is, no! Remember, “it’s all about the sheepies!” So, if you’d like to bring something for the goodies bags we’re making, or a prize for one of the silly contests, that would be terrific. Or…if you’d like to make a donation to OES rescue in the name of SheepieFest!, well, that sure would make me proud! For their info go to www.neoesr.org

Remember the food is bring your own. And please bring something to share. Whether it be chips, desserts, soda, ice, tiramisu (ha ha) or whatever! This is “our” party. This is “our” celebration. Also, there are grills there, so if you’d like to bring charcoal and lighter fluid it will be needed. Kathy and I will pick up some hot dogs (excuse the expression) and hamburgers to grill. We need someone to donate buns and offer to "man" the grill. Oh yes, some potato salad and cole slaw.

I will be out at the forest preserve by 9 am. So remember we are in Shelter D. My red Ford Escape (with lots of Key West stuff on the back) will be there. And we will stay as long as we want! As they say in Key West…what’s the hurry, you’re here!

I’d like to extend a very special, warm, sincere thank you to Kathi McBride and darling Auntie Paula for all of their support and encouragement. Ladies, I never could have done this without you!

I’m sure other stuff will come up between now and October 2nd, and that I will be sending out another letter.

Remember, get your checks in for our darling SheepieFest! Treat bags. You’ll love them!

As always, feel free to contact me via email or phone. Just remember, Tony and I go to bed really early! No calls after 8pm cst please!

Also, if you haven't rsvp'd, please drop me an email, so I can keep track of how many to expect. Please list Uprights and four leggeds who will be
attending. debcram@yahoo.com

Pirate and Keira send their love to all of you. And Keira is especially proud that even though she’s not a sheepie, she’s is being made welcome!

As always, yours in sheepie friendship.

I tried googling SheepieFest! and found tons of stuff! What a cool thing!

In this forum, under Chit-chat, our Brit friends are pondering having a SheepieFest! of their own.

SheepieFest! is one week away. I'm running my tush off with last minute preparations, and getting more and more excited.

We still have some treat bags available, and our name our dog logo is still open (until Thursday.) So...get your entries in. If you want to see him, email me at debcram@yahoo.com and I'll send you his picture.

GO SHEEPIEFEST!!!!!

Deborah, Pirate and Keira
Well, my dear friends, we are down to the final countdown! Only 5 days to SheepieFest! 2005.

I think, hope, everything is in place and everyone will have a great time. Should it rain, don’t worry. We have a covered shelter. Here is the basic information, one more time:

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005
Van Patton Woods, Zion, IL http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cf ... 215&type=P
10:00 am until ?
Shelter D.

We will all be bringing our own food, and something to share. Don’t forget to bring something to drink. We do need someone to volunteer to man (or woman) the grill.

Auntie Paula is very sad that no one has offered to bring Tiramisu. So if some kind hearted soul would like to bring her some that would be really sweet!

We will be keeping our dogs on leashes, to make sure we don’t have any that don’t get along. Oh, and please bring some poo poo bags and clean up after your dogs.

We will be keeping our” name the logo” contest open since we will be having many people attend that do not have email, and won’t have the opportunity to see the logo before hand. If you want to email names to me, please continue to.

SheepieFest! Treat bags are still available. We're nearing the break even point, and once we hit it, all profits will go to NEOESR.

It will probably be pretty crazy there, so if I don’t have the chance, I want to thank all of you for helping make my little dream come true. A lovely setting with people who love Old English Sheep Dogs enjoying each other’s company, and letting the dogs have a party. Thank you all…from the bottom of my heart.

As always, I’m here for all of your questions and comments, so never hesitate to call or write…unless it’s after 9 pm. I get pretty nasty then!

Ok, my friends...LET’S PARTY WITH THE PUPPIES!!!!!

I am sooooooo excited. My mommy keeps talking to me about Sheepiefest on Sunday, October 2, 2005. It sounds like something special to me. She says I am going to meet other sheepies and their families and I better be on my best behavior. How can I? I am too excited about this event. Maybe I will meet some of my relatives. That would be sooooo cool. I wonder how many sheepies are going to be there? It sounds like we are going to have a good old time. I hope there are enough treats for us to eat. And don't forget the ice cubes and water!

Calling all sheepies young and old to join in the fun on Sunday.

Remember, I am a SHEEPIE AND SHEEPIES RULE!

Is anyone else as excited as me?

Winston
See you Sunday
Woof, Woof, Woof

Winston, I'm excited as you are and I don't even have a sheepie! See you Sunday.
Sunday
Sunday
Sunday!!

Hey! If I wasn't so excited, I'd be exhausted! I seem to be running on adreneline.

Boy, Monday...I'm afraid I'm going to crash big time!!!!!!

But in the meantime, I'm running my tush off getting ready and getting more excited by the minute.

Pirate is at the groomers today getting bea-u-tiful! He asked if he could be King of SheepieFest!, but I told him there isn't going to be a King. I told him to be King, he'd have to take Keira to the prom
Everybody's king (or queen) at Sheepiefest!

Tell P. if he were king he'd have to wear a crown. And a robe.
Don't get ahead of yourselves  .... Homecoming is this weekend (for us)! The town is a mess (lots of TP) -- makes our evening walks very amusing as Rufie tries to chase it down!

Can't wait for our sheepie homecoming... needless to say my highschooler doesn't think she'll be able to wake up in time to attend :( , more room for us!!
Auntie Paula....

Pirate says, "Its suppose to be nice and warm Sunday. Do I have to wear a robe, or can I just wear my 'jammies?"
If he wants to be king, he has to wear his robe. Since I'm just a commoner, I will wear shorts!
I am so disappointed we couldn't make it! Ray played hockey Saturday night and hurt his foot. It got bigger and bigger and bigger so, at 2am we bit the bullet and took him to the emergency room where he got a cast for a broken foot. Needless to say, returning home at 5:00am we were in no shape to make it to the fest. I can't wait to hear all about it. Hendrix was bummed out. Not only did he miss the fest, but his play partner is out of commission for a couple months.

I want Sheepie details!
We missed you and Hendrix. I was looking forward to meeting him (and you, of course). I started a thread over in "General Chit Chat" recapping the pic-a-nic. It was soooo much fun and I hope you all can be there next year. Don't let Ray play hockey the night before!
