Spleen removal

On Wednesday Archie started to hemorige blood in his urine. It was a massive blood loss like a river of dark red/ black liquid. He had not been off colour at all, he was happy eating drinking and acting the fool as normal. We had noticed he had lost a bit of weight over the past few weeks. Also he appeared to be slightly out of breath (he is approaching 8) Our vet investigated and found his spleen was very enlarged also his white blood cell count was very elevated. A scan showed a large mass on the spleen and a level of dense liquid in his bladder.

Thoughts were first of cancer so he was operated on to remove spleen and check for tumours elsewhere.

We are waiting for ther results of a biopsy but there were no visible signs of cancer on the spleen or other internal organs. He is now passing liquid with a tinge of blood.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

I hope Archie is feeling better and gets well soon.
Hoping for the best news possible for Archie. :crossed:
how scary for you! Here's hoping Archie makes a full recovery! :ghug:
How is Archie doing?
Sorry to hear about Archie. Any update? My Suzie has an enlarged spleen we are monitoring.
Hoping for good news for you and Archie
Better news on Archie, the removed spleen was not cancerous, there was lots of scarring which was causing the enlargement and may be the source of the haemorrhaging. His blood results are also improving. The vet is checking for underlying issues but he is looking better eating well but not putting on much weight yet. Whilst he is not fully out of the woods yet, the outlook is better than expected.
Thanks for letting us know. Please keep us posted.

Be good to know what caused it. At least he seems to be improving so that's brilliant news. :clappurple:
Back at vet today , progress good, no blood in urine :D, weight +1kg, :D but no explanation for the enlarged spleen , back in one month for check up but progress is good and prognosis much better than expected.
That's very good news.x
Hope he is doing better each day.
Glad the outcome for Archie was a good one! Hope he continues to improve.
