Dogs being shipped overseas for meat

This is another subject that needs to be addressed. We have some animal protection laws in most of the staes that do to some extent protect the animals. Although in most states those laws are very very weak. This is something else the puppymillers and commercail breeders are doing is shipping LIVE dogs and cats to Asian Countries for food. They are not being butchered over her and the meat sent to Asia. Live dogs are being sent and killed there. Cassie's Mom is at a big rally in downtown Atlanta today about Korea buying dogs to kill not just for food but for a special event that takes place this time of year. They want animals to kill and eat that don't sweat. They think it makes their men more VIRIL...........I don't know how this works on the docks as far as shipping goes. But the market for dog meat is growing..So if you don't hear from Cassie's Mom is might be in JAIL. Respectfully, Kaye, Second Chance OES Rescue

Here is an informative site. http://www.koreananimals.org/

I am off a day it was yesterday in Atlanta. Sorry about that.

On July 15, 2005, IDA and other animal protection groups will hold worldwide protests to coincide with the first of Korea's "Bok days," which literally means the hot, dog days of summer. South Korea's dog meat consumption increases during this time of year because some superstitiously believe they can keep cool by eating animals that do not sweat. Some Korean men - apparently insecure about their masculinity - even gather in groups to violently beat and hang dogs to death in hopes that consuming the tortured animals' flesh will make them more virile.

Although consumption of dogs and cats is technically illegal in South Korea, the Government doesn't enforce the law. In fact, they are trying to effectively legalize it by regulating dog meat sanitation, which amounts to endorsement of the torment and killing of millions of dogs and cats. The Government's stamp of approval is particularly indefensible given that the vast majority of Koreans find the consumption of dogs and cats disgusting, and are ashamed that the practice has not yet been banned in their country.

If you live in the Atlanta Area, please join IDA for a protest against these atrocities:

What: International Day for Korean Dogs and Cats Protest
When: Friday, July 15, 1:00 p.m.
Where: Korean Consulate, 229 Peachtree St. Atlanta, GA 30303

For more information and to RSVP, contact Meredith Proshuto, the protest coordinator, at (864) 903-3806 or meredithproshuto@yahoo.com.

I can't get this post off of my mind since I read it earlier. How horrible! I'm at a loss for words at the moment but will pass along this to every person I know.

This is absolutely horrifying! Is the shipment of dogs and cats coming out of the US only? Does Canada do this? How is this legal? I just don't even know what to say! Has anyone heard how the rally went?

This cannot continue!

I was talking to a Lady last night that is a very active animal cruelity acrivist. She told me the dogs are shipped to kennels in Korea as breeding dogs. Which part of the statement maybe true.....What does that kennel breed for? MEAT!! So this all gets back to puppymills and commercial breeders here in the US and the Hunte Corp. Mercy!!!! I was hoping I could find out if anyone knows of any Canadian/Ontarian involvement in this issue? And if there were any rallies schedueled for the Korean Consulate in Ottawa? I've been doing some research on the web and I cannot seem to find any Canadian involvement in this issue! I'm a little surprised at this. But that could also mean I am not very good at research! Which is hopefully the case! So if any of you are aware of any Canadian support sites, please pass them along to me!

Also, how did the rally go in Atlanta?

Colleen and Gucci George
Canada's laws in regards to the treatment of animals are far stricter than the states, and are usually enforced as well, so it doesn't surprise me if there is no involvement here. If there is, it would be hidden.
Thanks! I will keep looking and hopefully NEVER find anything out of Canada! Hopefully something can be done to tighten up those laws!

 Hi all! This is clearly one of the sins that cries out to heaven for punishment along with cruelty and abuse of children. One of the worst photos I have seen came from the Philipines showing live dogs trussed for sale in the market. Would PETA have info about this traffic? They are usually very well informed about abuses world-wide. Lynda
