Back from London AND we saw the Queen....

Greetings everyone! Got back last night from 2 weeks in London. Had another great trip, but here is what I wanted to share.

Last year we rented a house and discovered that Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) lived down the road. We walked past his house at least once a day (no, we're not stalkers) since it was on the way to bus stop, but never saw him. This year we rented the same house and as usual, walked past his house every day. Towards the end of our stay,, we were schlepping home with groceries, after 10 hours of sightseeing. We got near his house and I said "where's Jimmy to drive us home????" Patti said, in an awed voice "he's right over there." By gosh, Jimmy Page was on the front lawn of his house getting the mail!!!!

We plotzed. (yes, I speak Yiddish courtesy of Debcram). We were on the opposite side of the street. We waved at him, and he waved back and said "hello." Very polite! The next morning we were AGAIN walking to the bus, and about half a block past his house, he came down his walk and hailed a cab.

I like Zep, not a huge fan, but this was so cool!

And we saw the Queen twice. We lined up on the Mall for the state opening of Parliament and she drove by us in her carriage and waved to us! I cried and had to have a cigarette. We got a cup of coffee and went back, and saw her again (coming back from Parliament) and Charles and Camilla were in the carriage behind her and waved at us.

Wow! Great memories from this trip! Sounds like you had a really good time. Welcome home!
Wow! How cool to see the royals!!! London is a bucket list item for us, hope to do it soon.

Glad you had a wonderful time, is this an annual trip?
Not an annual trip, Brenda. We went last year and had no intention of returning until 2015. But this has been such a bad 6 months for me with my brothers and Bob that I decided we needed something to look forward to. We didn't see about 1/3 of what was on our list, so we have plenty of reasons to return.
It does sound like a great trip.
oh bless I am pleased you saw the Queen...xxx
What a great trip!

I keep hoping my husband will get called to do business there again and I can tag along. So far he's only been once.
I'm not going to bother with seeing the Queen. I have an entire route mapped out to see all the Sheepies from OES.org!!! From the south, to the north, the midlands to the IOM!!! And if I can spot Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend or the Stig even better for me!! I've been wanting to visit the UK since high school and I'll make it some day...

Vance

Vance, did you miss the part where i saw Jimmy Page???? Pete T. lives in far southern London, technically Richmond. Daltrey probably lives in the states. And who knows where The Stig lives--probably in Jeremy's shed!
Oh, I saw that. I'm just a much bigger Who fan. I thought I'd read where Pete had just bought the place in Richmond. Roger lives in London. The last time I saw him interviewed, he said that he didn't own a car and did own a bus pass, that he got with his senior's discount! And you're right, the Stig prolly does live in Jeremy's shed!

Very cool, Paula! Very cool indeed!! What a great trip. Now you'll definitely have to go again to finish your list.
Sounds like a really fun trip!

OMG Paula, We were there at the same time!!! I arrived the day before Parliament opened, and the dingy travel dept. put me in the Grange at St. Pauls! I watched the Queen and all arrive as well..................
That's a great photo of the Queen! I'd be excited to see Jimmy Page even more so and you may want to view this amazing vid when he was honored at Kennedy Center by Ann and Nancy Wilson and a host of musicians. It's really amazing and I hope you enjoy it Paula.
