The Old English Patient (update) - Bert is back on the DL

Bert wouldn't put weight on his front paw again this morning. Right away I suspected the nail he fractured last month. When he finally let me look at it I could see that something was still wrong with it, just not sure what. So I took him to the vet after work. It turns out that the nail was damaged further up then they could see at the time. So it wasn't growing properly and hardly attached. Therefore when he stepped on it, the nail was pulling up and hurting him.

They totally removed the nail and have exposed the quick. So he is in the bandage once again and I have to take him back to the vet again on Friday for them to reassess whether or not he can have the bandage removed.

Here he is from last month sporting his bandage. It looks the same and I am letting him sleep until I have to start his antibiotic and anti-inflammatory in just a bit.

I scheduled his follow-up appointment between Harry's agility trial (with Chewie and Teddy) and the beginning of the Sheepiepalooza weekend that evening.

Bottom line after a couple of days on the meds Bert should be ready to experience his first Sheepiepalooza even if he is wearing a boot.

Poor Bert :ghug: :ghug:

Can't wait to give him a hug and a cuddle :hearts:

I'm betting that a boot won't slow him down one bit
:ghug:
Poor Guy!
You'll be sure to get lots of sympathy
in that boot this weekend!

:hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
I hope he can get a boot on!! He needs to be at 'palooza'

All sounds so painful. I've noticed Kdog has a deformed dewclaw.......yeah I know. She must have ripped it up pretty bad at one time.
I am sure Willow will be happy to nurse her friend back to health!!!!! (((I think I have a nurses' hat somewhere))))....

get better quick!!!! sweet Bert!!!!!!

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Oh geez!! Poor Bert :(

But, I guess it's good it got noticed now, instead of when he was racing around with all his new friends. And on a weekend...holiday weekend. :phew:
Poor guy...and yes now instead of ER on the holiday
I definitely had that in mind when I made the appointment the minute I saw him refusing to put weight on the paw. The wierd thing is he wasn't limping when I got home to take him to his appointment but I wasn't taking any chances by putting it off.
 Poor Bert! Hope he starts to heal quickly now that they have found the problem! Hugs! :ghug:
Poor little Bert. I feel so bad for him. I hope he feels better soon.
