Memorial Day dog show in Cincinnati

My son is looking for a puppy and he's planning to attend a dog show in Cincinnati next weekend. He's got it narrowed down to 3 breeds, with OES being one of them. We had an OES when the kids were younger and she was a sweetheart. He's also looking at Newfs and some other breed I've never heard of.

He's already attended one show but did not get a good feeling from the breeder who was showing OES there so he didn't pursue puppy talks with her. I know it's a longshot, but does anyone here know if there will be OES breeders at that Cincinnati show and if so, are any of them on this forum?

Thanks

Contact Vance he may know of someone that may be there.
Unfortunately, a dog show isn't the best place to get a good impression of a breeder unless you approach them correctly. It's very stressful getting an OES ring-ready and many newcomers to the breed don't realize the work that goes into it at the last minute. Visitors usually want to talk before ring time or walk up and touch a freshly done head coat. :headbang: It doesn't make a very good impression to the exhibitor and it's understandable how you may have gotten a bad impression last time.

Unless someone is advancing to Group, most people are happy to show off their dogs AFTER breed judging. If you are respectful of those preparing dogs it's very likely that they'll be thrilled to speak to you once showing is finished for the day. Many are breeders or have opinions of who the best breeders are.

I'm not sure exactly who will be attending the Cincinnati shows. We would be going if not for Sheepiepalooza being that same weekend. You may want to check out the OESCA breeder referral site http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ferral.php and primarily contact the breeders from Indiana, Ohio & Michigan and see if you can get more info before the shows. :-) They are usually the exhibitors who attend the Cincinnati shows. :-)
Take Nita's post into consideration. Most of us are zoned out when getting our dogs ready for the ring but more than happy to talk to anyone after breed judging.

I looked up the entry to the Cincinnati shows. They pulled a pretty good entry this year. Most years there are slim to none OES there. Now the following figures don't mean that all these dogs will be there but they are entered so it seems to me to be worth his while to check it out. OES people won't necessarily all be grooming in the same area so he may have to wander around or watch the breed judging & follow the people back to their set-up to talk.

FRI: 9 OES entered, ring 4 at 9:30AM with 22 others ahead which means they will probably be in the ring somewhere around10AM give or take a few minutes.
SAT: 10 OES entered, ring 3 at 1:45PM with 5 ahead so they will pretty much be in the ring right around 1:45PM.
SUN: 9 OES entered, ring 2 at 2:00PM with 37 ahead so they will probably be in the ring closer to 3PM.
MON: 9 OES entered, ring 2 at 11:45 PM with 9 ahead so they will probably be in the ring between 11:45 AM-12 Noon.

It is a major in bitches with the possibility of the major be crossed over for the boys so the people getting the OES ready before ring time are going to be pretty involved with working on there dogs...majors don't cone around all that often.
Feel free to contact me via PM and at that point I'll get you my phone number. If we can, it may be possible for me to meet you at the show or another as there are several around here over the summer. I think you'd get more out of going to a show with a personal guide who has do e it and not got a 'dog in the fight' per-say.

Where is the show being held at in Cincinnati?
It's up in Hamilton at the Butler County Fairgrounds on Rt. 4. :-)
Thanks!
