Frodo has the runs!

Frodo had a bad case of the runs last night, so bad in fact that he actually made potty in our bedroom.. something he has never done. He actually woke us up at 3:00AM whining and scratching at the foot of the bed. We assumed that one of the cats was around, but he was trying to tell us that he had to go potty. What a good boy, he just couldn’t hold it in. But he tried. Should we call the doctor? My mother told me that it's normal and that I should feed him some rice and plain chicken.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Here's some help:

http://www.oes.org/page1/diarrhea-rice-water.html

Down near the bottom is a good ricewater recipe that might help.
The link is great Ron, thanks. As for the runny dog, this happens even with adults. It could be stress, heat, allergies, eaten sock, etc etc. First rule as the link mentioned several times: rest, rest, rest. Our vet says no food, just water for 24 hours and then slowly start bringing back the food. Puppy will not starve in the mean time. The OTC diarrhea controls also help.
this happens to roofus if i seemingly change even a teaspon of what he normally gets!!

sensitive tummies, oh boy! :)
I cooked some chicken for myself last night and had a little extra so I put it in Panda's bowl.....Slimey poop today..yuck...Its dry food only for my girl from now on...really sensitive stomach!
Early this a.m. Jack woke me up and then made a beeline for the back door. Squirts. But then he turned around and started......well you know.  Had to swap both the butt and the mouth

I have no idea what set him off. Maybe the heat.
hey Darcy, they normally don't do well with poultry alone. If you are having rice with chicken next time, it'll help.

We've decided no table scraps for Pooh, but he does "pre wash" the dishes for us when the dishwasher door is open and we are loading it up. Too funny. I don't have the heart to try and stop him because he watches me do the dishes and only wants to help!
Sheepieboss - how is he doing?!! I'm all stressed out because all of a sudden when we brought Bob back in around 9 tonight, he's had diarrhea and thrown up about 3 times. I'm so worried about him, he looks awful. We'll see how he does overnight and probably call the vet in the a.m. I don't think there's anything in his area he could've gotten into. He's been great all day.  Poor guy. He's just so sad.
Is there anything more fun than an OES with the runs? YUCK! Especially if they have their full coat! Does Frodo have pigs ears or rawhides? I know when Gucci George was about 4 months he got really sick and I took him to the vet got all these tests done and he had elavated liver enzymes! We figured out it was the pigs ears. I had done some research and because they are so popular and high in demand, they are not washed properly and doggies can get very sick from them! Needless to say George is not allowed to have those anymore!

Just a thought if Frodo is eating those!

Colleen and Gucci George=>pigs ears are yucky!
Yeah!! Bob is doing better this morning. I resisted the urge to sleep in the kitchen with him, and settled for the couch in the next room. Oh, he is one dirty dog I don't think he even got up when he was getting sick because his whole body is a mess. We started the chicken and rice thing for breakfast and that seems to be holding. Wow! It's so scary when they get sick.

I wouldn't be feeding chicken and rice, I'd try just the ricewater for a bit. Especially if chicken is not part of your pup's regular diet.

I'd think that they need the fluids and to stop the runs.

Of course if your vet suggests otherwise, please completely ignore me.
Frodo is feeling much better now. Thanks again for the advice.

:D
