This is a sad day but things have gone too far.

Sad that we show our dogs like this. What has happened.

Indeed, "over-sculpting" has been the trend in many breeds, as well as in several longhaired cat breeds & ...human competition too ;). Hopefully the tides will turn & a more natural look will return...

I don't know about gone too far. Many breeds have been there for along time. Human perception of attractive varies a lot.
They both have the same hair cut
What?? The lady with the poodle, even down to the bare legs?

Having seen ungroomed Bichons, I prefer this. As for fuzzbutts........well I prefer a bit more natural. Geez, at least they haven't been putting bows atop fuzzbutts like they do Maltese. OK Kdog wears a topknot and Heart :hearts: :hearts: wore the bows beautifully, but for show, no.

yep...right on~~~~~~

Over styled sheepdogs? That never happens out of the show ring and we are certainly not working on a new look either......

Last years style
Was not on about what people do outside of the ring but what is in the ring. About breed standard and I do like to older look of the OESD.
Great looking dogs

No, I don't care for the fluff butt of old nor do I care for the Bichon head today. Give me old heads and........I guess a sculpted body like today. Blue sheepdog poodles, I remember when you did that. I would have preferred purple, but "blue" is acceptable in standard.............
I'm an old-timer and to me the coat in the OES in the first post is obviously (and grossly) incorrect in terms of texture. It's a very soft coat and lacks the harsh outer jacket required to protect the working sheepdog from the elements.

Beyond that, I thought the standard prohibited excessive scissoring. Has that changed?

Why is this look rewarded in the show ring?

Thanks for providing the older photos of the OES. They're fabulous.

It's very sad, indeed. The OES in the first photo looks ridiculous. Perhaps this "look" is a contributing factor in the fall in popularity for our breed.

:lmt:

This is a nice looking Sheepy.

I don't like the fluff butt look either, looks like their hind end is sticking up in the air unnaturally.
There must be something under that hair or that dog wouldn't be winning so many Best In Shows. :lmt:
