Depression in lily

I'm pretty sure lily is depressed. There has been a change in her behavior the last week. I'm not sure if she is finally realizing something is going to be different or there is a change in me (I'm 31 weeks pregnant) but she is sooo mopey and doesn't get excited about anything. Even my trainer noticed a change in her behavior during rally/agility class. Lily was like "alright I will do it if I have too".

Nothing has changed in our schedules or the way she is treated, no new baby stuff yet, she is eating and drinking normally and takes treats when given to her. Could it be that she has finally figured out something is different? Any suggestions to bring her out of this slump?

It's not unusual for sensitive, people-oriented puppers to feel some uncertainty with human pregnancy, particularly in the last trimester when mommy looks and smells different & new baby stuff moves in. Some dogs withdraw, other may regress with training etc. This article has some suggestions that may help lily feel secure & prepare for the baby. (Obviously many things can cause depressed affect, so keep an eye on her appetite & check in with her vet if you notice her worsening)

Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family!
She's been around pregnant women, newborns, toddlers etc. She's usually good about being flexible with changes. She's usually a go with the flow, happy go lucky dog.

Well, I took her around with me to run errands and she sat in the car by herself most of the time. When we got home she started bouncing around and playing. I brushed her out and she requested her "I sat still while you brushed me" cookie. She seems to be back to normal now.
Glad she is back to normal--maybe just had the 'winter blues' :D
Maybe something is going on with her health-wise. Lethargy can sometimes be a symptom of hypothyroidism, which, as a bunch of us on this forum know firsthand, tends to run in our breed. If this happens again, or you begin to notice other symptoms/behavior changes, it might be worth a vet visit.

Congrats on the impending arrival of your two-legged baby. :D

I think she is due for her yearly check up soon, in the next month or two, so I will keep that in mind to talk to the vet about. Especially if it happens again.

Thanks for the congrats on my 2 legged baby. Lily and I will officially be outnumbered by boys in april. lol (maybe in the future we will have to add another sheepie to even things out :lmt: )
