Our wonderful puppy Daisy in kidney failure after spay

Daisy will be six months old in three days. We got her from a very reputable breeder in July. She's been so great.

Last Thursday we had her spayed. She was lethargic (not a surprise). Friday, we called the vet who said "oh anesthesia, doesn't like the cone etc." No change. On Saturday we insisted she be seen. Even then, vet didn't do blood tests except as an afterthought. Called us while we were driving home. Told us Daisy had to go to 24 hour IV immediately. Days in the pet hospital ($$$$$$...$$$$!!), ultrasounds, Addison's test. Comes home. We took her back today and her kidney values are heading the wrong way. At a minimum may need subcutaneous fluids for the rest of her life? And will lose her hard won house training? We can't believe this is happening--they suspect this is a result of using Medicam, which is a NSAID pain medication, during surgery and after.

I can't post a picture, too heart breaking. We can only hope she will improve but looks bad. She is such a wonderful dog, we can't believe it.

If anyone has had experience with acute renal failure in a puppy with a good outcome would love to hear it!

I'm so very sorry for you and Daisy. How horrible and cruel. :ghug:

Hoping that you can find someone to give you a second opinion? Is there a vet school close or a med vet specialty clinic?
Has your breeder any thoughts on this, certainly they will want to know and could possibly advise you on where to go with this baby.

Big hugs to your family, keeping you in my heart and thoughts :hearts:
