That's kinda creepy sounding Val.

Here's a link that will open the video without leaving the forum...

Vance
Ah, Harry can out snore her! Yes, it's not a good sign, but at least you know where she is!
Thanks Vance....I am so computer dumb.....

As far as her breathing, it gets louder the sounder she sleeps ..and after eating or drinking it sounds horrible~~~All gloppy and yeckky!!!!
It didn't sound overly loud on my computer but I am sure in person it is enough to wake you.

Poor baby. :(
I'll have to remember to check it out, when I'm not at work and on mute.
My son's bull mastiff was just diagnosed with this too....
So what do they have ?
I can see why you wake and listen Val. I notice she is sleeping with her little head straight up--is this a normal sleeping position for her? I just asked because I wondered if she has changed her sleeping habits too.
Loni,,,,,, Heart has lymphoma...She was diagnosed on 10/4/13 and was given about 2 months.

Karen.... No, this is a new sleeping position for her, She cannot sleep on her side, I guess since it compresses the trachea from the nodes. I have tried to get her to lay on a pillow with her head raised, but she won't stay. I think this is the most comfortable position for her, now anyway...Thanks Val
I can't tell you how often I think of you and Heart. It's amazing how you read about someone online, and you feel for them. Sending you many prayers.
^^^^^^^

Thank you Karen....It mean alot to me to have all this support and love..

I didn't know of Heart's diagnosis....Sending prayers and thinking of you. Hope she rests at night comfortably no matter what she sounds like. Bless her .... :hearts: :hearts:
I couldn't really hear much on my computer either.

Chewie and Bond sleep like that (position) all the time.

And Chewie snores really loud in the Element - when he lays on the floor and rests his chin all the way up on the seat. Looks horribly uncomfortable.

I talked with my friend Sue at agility class last night. She has Hilo on prednisone. He was having really noisy respirations. I told her about Heart, but that I hadn't listened to your video yet. She heard more loud respirations with Hilo when he was up and about, but quieter at night. Just the opposite, but that was what made her decide it was time. She said that it has really noticeably shrunk his nodes and he breathes quiet now. He seems less energetic now (he's normally a really intense dog), but he's comfortable, and he's happy. :D He had a really good time at agility too - he even did his racing up to Chewie and bowing and barking in his face...just like normal :D It made me happy too. The small things are important!
YES..Dawn...the little things, become monumental at this stage. Our vet is still holding off the pred at this point. I see his point, and I trust him. The other morning she threw up pink tinged gunk,,,I need to put more liguid in her food and make sure it is soft. (I think she scratched her throat by the food pellets.) She has not had any trouble since then, but after she eats or drinks, her breathing gets really loud and crackly. She is slowing down on her eating. She will take a few bites, whine a little, stop, and then take a few more bites. She does manage to finish, which is GREAT.... I am going to take her back to the vet next week for a progress checkup. Although I do want her on pred. I know that once she is on it, and her body gets used to it, we have no other course of meds. In my mind that means, she will start the downward spiral.
One thing you could try with her food, is soaking it. I was doing it with Simon his last year, and I've been doing it with Harley for the last 6 months or so.

I use a Rubbermaid food storage container that holds 1 day's worth of food (they eat twice a day). I measure out the 2 feedings and then fill the container to the top (and also to the dog food level) with water. I store it in the fridge. Each feeding I scoop out 1/2, and when I use the last half, I refill it back up and start over. It hardly takes any extra time, and we have nice and soft food that is easy to eat. The basset boys needed it for dental issues - as both would actually have bloody gums from eating the dry food :(
With Simon it made him stop eating...I feel bad that something so simple was the reason.
Thanks for the suggestion. I need to really, really soak her food. Then I am thinking of mixing it with canned food too..(water, dry and canned) that way the aroma is very tempting and eating will be easier.

Will let you know how this oworks..

Thanks again...
Val...a good wet/canned food that Heart may like is Tripet. It is a tripe based food. Terribly smelly but I think that is what the pups love about it  They have a website where you can find local places to find it. Hugs to you, Dino and Heart :hearts: :hearts:
Thanks alot Amanda....I will check it out!!! huggs right back at you!!!
Val, try soaking her food in a plastic container with a snap on lid. Pour boiling water over it before snapping on the lid. I used to boil water in the tea kettle & do this for the puppies when they were being weaned. The heat seems to help soften the food better. You might need to do this about 30 minutes or so before she normally eats.

Re: the Pred. Yes & no. It does suppress the immune system but depending on how your vet monitors it & the dosage, it could help her quite bit. No, it's not going to cure her but it will help to make her more comfortable. Isaac was on Pred about the last 15 months of his life. Of course he didn't have the exact same thing as Heart but as my vet said, we knew there was no curing his declining mobility (spinal arthritis at an advanced age) so this was the best solution at that point. It made him more comfortable & more mobile. My other option was to put him down. It gave him a decent quality of life as the end neared.

Marilyn,

I agree with you as far as the pred. ..next week, when I take her in, I think I may steer him to giving her the pred.

Last week, she was charging her food and gobbling it up. The last few days there have been changes. Not good ones.

I seems when she gets excited, she does that inverted sneeze, trying to catch her breath. I know in some dogs this is common, but Heart has
never done this before.

And..The last few days, she has not charged her food. I do soak the dry with very warm water and it expands, so I know it is mostly soft, but she is hesitant
to gobble. She takes a few bites, whines and then takes a few more bites. I am happy that she is finishing all her food, but it is taking her longer than in the
past.

I get that she is declining slowly....I get that her nodes are getting bigger each day...I just want her comfortable as we all would with our furbabies.

Thanks for the great advice~~~~ it is appreciated and useful and I will be trying every one of them.

I am very worried about Dino...I am posting a thread just to vent!!!!!!
Another thought....try running it thru your blender or food processor after it has softened. That way you can make it as runny as you want & maybe she will lap it up & it will slide down her throat easier. Remember when they put them on pred that it increases their appetite & water consumption & what goes in must come out to some degree.
    ..thanks again!!
Remember the Gerber baby food. The processed meats and the vienna sausages.......all can be mixed in with the soft food. the little sausages can be treats too.....
