Too many people

I think there are too many people in this world and we need a good old plague or disaster. I think the planet cannot cope and look in the past we need one

Well, there are far less drastic and horrible ways to achieve this. Birth control and intelligent family planning paramount among them. It would greatly reduce poverty and other problems when countries with very high birth rates and large families change to smaller birth rates and smaller families. In a developing nation, a family with 2 kids can invest so much more in those 2 kids' health and future and the general family well-being compared with a family with 5+ kids.

The single greatest act to reduce poverty that Pope Francis and the Catholic Church could do would be to allow birth control. It is utterly shameful that they haven't.
I think plague or disaster is a bit severe. I agree with David. More responsible family planning, and more taking care of your own. I sometimes think the ultimate solution is more education (or at least some education) but this is a problem that is far beyond my solving.
Hey, it's not just the Catholic Church. There are other religions where children contribute to a man's wealth even if he can't afford to feed them. Then we have women who support themselves by having babies and getting welfare checks.
I know its a bit harsh but I don't think you will educate certain people and over they years we have had wars/plagues and so on. We are destroying the planet and other life forms due to our greed and so on. Think what it's going to be like in 200 years from now if we carry on and I think certain parts of the world population should be cut and I won't say but as it might upset a some people.
Were you planning on dying a horrible death in one of these events yourself? Or do you envisage it affecting someone/where else?
While it is frustrating and worrisome, I remember in the early 70's a well regarded (at that time) author said we'd run out of food within a decade and chaos would result. That was 40+ years ago and we continue to find ways to keep going. Maybe we are best when forced to come up with solutions instead of looking far into the future.

Nature seems to keep trying to do us in and we find a way to contain the problem. Ebola, HIV, influenza, etc. are just a couple that come to mind. Around here we have Hanta virus and Bubonic plague.

Population reduction in industrialized areas means economic stagnation due to loss of revenue.

Glad I don't have a crystal ball to see into future, it could be frightening or encouraging. I'll stick to this time frame.
Plague would be good if it doesn't effect us, our family and friends right

I'm with David, birth control. I don't see why is necessary to have more than two children these days and a little bit selfish as it puts a strain on the earth.

Even if you don't think it does put a strain on where you live, you still have to get food and clothes and gadgets that come from over populated third world countries who give birth to more children to make our stuff.

Oh that sounds cynical, back to happy thoughts.
Haha :-P
Birth control in most countries would be down to selected breeding and a lot of girls would be terminated as most families would want a son just like China and India and that has not solved the issues. The modern women has helped in a way as they want other things than babies. Ifthe bird flu for example went viral in over populated areas that would solve some of the issues.
One could argue that the UK is over populated so the bird flu should happen there?

I don't think a nice family in an over populated country would feel that bird flu is the answer. We often look at an over populated country as a whole and not at the individual humans that make it up.......Incidentally we don't choose to who or where we are born and the majority of us are just trying to have a harmonious life, whatever religion, non religion or country we are in.

A fatal disease is as only a temporarily change to the population situation where as a change of thinking can change things for the long term whether it is allowing contraception in religions, restricting the number of children per parent and coming to the realization that being female is as important as being male.

We are a product of our culture and it takes a few strong individuals to change a populations way of thinking i.e. Martin Luther King

People's ideas change over time so it is our responsibility to change it in a positive and effective manner.
I was using the bird flu as an example and yes we do have too many people on such a small place. People always get upset when you mention this type of thing. Due to greed and stupidity we are killing our planet and the things what go with it and why should other things suffer.
Not upset just giving a different point of view :D
I'm all for nature and totally agree the increasing human population is affecting the planet.
Hardly Killing the Planet - it'll be here long after the last Human as will lot's of other things to take our place.

The problems with Humans? is the ability to reason.

Do you think a lion would not consider eating the last bit of prey?

A Whale the last bit of Krill?

An Orca the last Penguin.

Nature won't give a second thought for Humanity, after all a plague/disease is part of nature!

We are vessels, driven by our DNA purely to ensure the survival of our DNA it's just got a bit clever and efficient at ensuring that it does.

My two penneth worth..................

It must be time for a good religious argument now ;-)
That's why I love filthy smokers, drug users and the obese. Weeds out stupid people!
