Hi from the UK - our first oes

Hi! I've been reading through this forum for a few days so thought I would sign myself up and say hello

My husband and I will be bringing our new oes puppy home in 4 weeks time and we're so excited :)

It's our first time owning an oes. We lost our beloved rottweiler in April to bone cancer, he was just 5 years old and was a big part of our family. We now feel ready to move on and get another dog (the house just doesn't feel the same without a big bundle of life running around!) We looked into lots of different breeds, and the oes ticked all the right boxes for us.

Any advice/tips for new oes owners will be happily received! We're also still trying to come up with a name for him. On our list at the moment is: (my choices) Monty or Bailey, and (my husband's choices) Walter or Vincent.

Welcome from Washington state. (the state, not the capital lol)

Congrats on your soon to be home bundle of joy!

Sorry for your loss.
They aren't quite the same as Rotties! And yet they are...........

Mischievous, Clownish, Loyal are three terms that come to mind quickly. Like all dogs, they go thru periods of brain growth and "regression" where you are convinced you accidently pushed the unseen reformat button and the pup starts all over again with brain development. They are energetic as pups, always remember, "A tired pup is a good pup." Their brains and bodies seem to go into hyperdrive.........culminating in ZOOMIES where the brain disconnects and the legs take over, inside/outside it doesn't matter. Great fun except at bedtime. The cure is to keep you pup well exercised. Also they need mental stimulation. Initially learning his/her manners but we highly suggest obedience training and maybe agility, herding, etc once mature.

Welcome to silly and loving times. Oh yeah, check here for good grooming info. All that hair needs regular attention, complete brushing down to the skin, not just a few passes with a brush.

Oh yeah: pictures, pictures, pictures.......we love pictures :cheer: :cheer:

So sweet!!!!!! My first OES just turned 8 months. Best advice I got from the forum was take LOTS of pictures. They grow soooo fast!!!!
:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: Whatever you decide to name him, he is just adorable! I caught up to this post a little late but if you have questions, just go to the search section and I bet you will find your answers. or just ask...we are all always here.

My best advice....crate train. Maintain a schedule as far as eating and pooping and peeing. be prepared for some accidents understanding this is an infant you just brought home. Baby proof your house like you would for a new born. And take lots and lots of pictures....Welcome Home New Baby! :ghug:
Hello! Welcome from Illinois! Your little baby boy is adorable! Can't wait to see the pictures as he grows!

oh did I mention that there will be brushing

As for the ZOOMIES there is a special reserve energy pack for ZOOMIES, you can take the longest walk in the world almost have to carry your 52kg lump home, soon as he is back in the back garden - CLICK time for ZOOMIES!

When he is growing and a normal sized dog as a young pup, be prepared for arms being pulled out of the socket, they can be deceptively strong don't be fooled by the fluffyness.
Name? Chunky Monkey works for me
We've been to see our puppy today :) Just two weeks until we get to bring him home. We've decided to call him Walter

Here's some pics I took today (8 weeks old)

Walter is good, but I still like Chunky Monkey,   Maybe a nickname?? Some excitement coming your way........sleepless nights, crazy puppy antics.......and you love every minute.........a year from now. Hang in there. And congratulations.
