Best treats for Training?

Not sure where to put this... so moderators, move it if you need to.

What is the best treat for training... Tucker is pretty much telling us when he needs to potty ( LOVE the bell!) but, I wonder what treats are the best for other trainings, such as sit, stay, say your Prayers and Reciting the Gettysburgh address. ;)

Right now, I am using small pieces of carrot... but it takes him a while to chew, and cuts down on training time. He's too little for cheese- right?

Maybe this should go in the cooking section?

chicken hot dogs..
Any kind of soft smelly treat that he likes is good.
You are right about the carrot - they are the same as a crunchy or hard treat, they take too long.
The key is that you use itty, bitty, little (VERY little) bits, and then rapidly can give him 2-3 of them - it actually has a name in dog training - "jackpotting".
Give one for a decent performance, and use jackpotting for something difficult, or that you have been having a hard time with and then he finally gets it.

And truly - you don't need to use treats for everything. Make yourself be the praise and the reward and just LOVE on him. I don't use any food treats for obedience or conformation...and then occasionally break a bit out later on to get the energy going again if I need it.
In the beginning it's all about you and your dog. I first want my dogs to learn that I am happy and pleased, and want them to look to me for the loving. We really praise - hugs, play and get a big crazy response from the dogs. Then a treat can come randomly later, once you have a relationship where the dog knows you are a team. One big downfall of treats is you get a dog who is conditioned to work for treats, and treats are the reward. I want ME to be the reward and I really let my dogs know they are awesome with interaction...not food.
When we were going through Bailee's training we were told by the instructor to use small pieces of cheese as the primary treat or if that did not work to use small pieces of chicken. the cheese worked great. He still loves it to this day.
I went through a lot of different high end store bought treats. Murph was not motivated by any of them... now hotdogs, baked chicken, and cheese...he will work for those!
We use Platos Salmon treats and I break them up. They are super smelly so beware but the dogs love them. I also cut cheese into tiny little squares. They love that too....Hotdogs. Well, be careful with hot dogs. They ahve alot of salt but. We use turkey hot dogs. Take one hot dog. Slice it longways into two. the slice each of those long ways into so so you will now have four long slices. Then cut each slice into little chunks. Little. You should get about 27 little pieces or so. Now put them in the microwave for about 2 or three minutes according to the strength of your microwave. They will come out all crunchy.... and let them cool. You can store them in a container in the refrig. My dogs love these little hot dog treats. :)
I've been using Hill's Science Diet Oral Care dog food with Angus. It's a nice size especially for bigger dogs and gets some oral care to boot! I toss these to him to practice his "catching" technique. He catches them pretty good....a few every once in a while bounce off his head though!
