Fred the Instigator

My neighbor has 3 dogs that love to bark at everything. Our back yards are separated by a chain link fence. When all the dogs are out at the same time she will run the fence line but be perfectly quiet while they bark their heads off. As soon as they settle down she will let out one little woof to set them all off again and then run around my yard with this really pleased look on her face.

 Little trouble maker
Good sheepie....................

She's counting her flock, making sure none have been taken by the wooluff
She's intimidated but gaining confidence. I suspect she'll be part of the barkfest pretty soon.
Our back neighbor has 2 dogs that bark almost nonstop. Same. 2 doors down. Our guys act like they can't even hear the farthest ones and will occasionally look at us when the back barking starts as if to say "How embarrassing!" They never join the chorus.
Yours are just too civilized. Two houses down has a shepherd x husky also with misc # of pitbulls......puppies come and go. They are the starters. Then Crazy Jack and Bubba the lab next door start up. The Damn Boxers on our other side get in there as well. Harry used to join in but his bark now is a very hoarse sound, not easily heard. After a bit the husky x shep starts to howl.......other dogs stop barking and the howler carries on for far too long.
Mine run into that when they are out after class at The Paw. We get done in the evening about the same time the boarded dogs are getting let out for bedtime potties. So there are all these strange dogs, all a little more wired because they are out of their home element. There are always several who zealously race and bark and growl defending the shared fence between our play yards.

I absolutely hate that behavior, and mine know they are to ignore it. Chewie's been doing it twice a week for years now. But Bond was so fascinated with them when he was a pup. He was truly puzzled with why they were freaking out...and just stood next to the fence watching them, head cocked. :) Of course this large hair dog who stood motionless next to the fence just drove them even more insane.... :D :D

They both have good recalls, and they get to walk near the fence once to check them out, then they are expected to leave them and go away from the fence.
They also need to leave the dogs alone - as I'm sure many get so caught up in the fence issues and never go potty. :(
Maybe a sheepdog trait not to join in.........or well trained, secure dogs? Kensie shows no interest in joining in the noise unless challenged by The Damn Boxers when by the fence. It's the same place where Jack was injured, so if I had the $$ I'd wall off the area.
If a backyard dog starts barking when we are in a walk our guys notice them like any other sudden noise then just keep doing their job.

Now if there are kids in a front yard all bets are off! (But they don't bark)
Another perk of having a deaf dog! :D When dogs are running and barking, and Oscar sees the motion, he watches for a second and then looks at me like - "What the heck are those fools doing?"
