Alternative to iPod?

I am not an Apple fan. I do not have an iPhone or a SmartPhone, so that is not an option. I have a google Nexus 7 tablet and would not be opposed to buying a new mp3 player. But what do I get?

Background: I have an iPod Shuffle, which has told me it is full. It shouldn't be but that's what it tells me. And I cannot access my iTunes account. it claims it cannot access "the cloud." I have been battling this for months.

So I wouldn't mind a new mp3 player for the car. I can use my Nexus in the house. So what do I buy? And can I transfer my iPod content to the new player (I'm guess yes, by burning a CD, then transferring). Is there a device that would work with the Nexus so I can move songs back and forth? Amazon mp3 songs--do they have to be loaded onto a specific device, or will any mp3 player work?i

l long for the days of making a cassette from vinyl.....

Paula - I am NO help in this. I don't have any of those devices!
But so many do, so I'm sure someone here will help you. :)
I have a little purple iPod shuffle I haven't used in years since I got my iPhone. I don't think it holds but maybe a few hundred songs. I have a MacBook so my stuff all works great together. I'm no help with the questions you have but good luck on your search!

Paula--you shouldn't have to access the cloud with a regular ipod. It should update and charge when you connect to your computer. If it is full--you just can't add anything but you can still listen to what is there.

I do use my old ipod often now because when I got the iphone 5--they started with all the 'cloud' stuff--itunes match etc. All that was just to rake in more money with the fees they charge to match your own music--I could rant about that for awhile!! Wish I had never made the upgrade to the 5 but needed a new phone and no one mentioned all that stuff--until I was trying to set it up.

Sorry that I don't have info for you on a different type of mp3 player--when I learn to use one device I just stick with that :D. My trusty older ipod does the trick when not in a wi-fi situation.
Karen, it SAYS it's full, but I know it isn't. I have about 150 songs on it and I know it holds more than that and whats on there doesn't even come close to the max, according to the properties info. iTunes wants me to sign in to purchase music, but I get the "cannot access the cloud" message when I put in my user id and password. I know it's a snarl on Apple's end but do not want to deal with customer service. That's why I'm looking for alternatives.
We use an old (no longer hooked up to an account) Iphone for music now, but for years we had a Sansa MP3 player. The reason we (reluctantly) switched was because it became *SO* difficult to find a player (dock/speakers) for the Sansa...and I HATE headphones and earbuds. Otherwise, it worked just fine.

Yes...Im still around...and yes this may be an odd topic to pop back up for, but this was a SUPER annoying issue for me too!
Just click on Amazon type in MP3 player and have a read the world is your mollusc.
Cassettes and back in. They have started making them again

Don't blame you not wanting to deal with their customer service--wish I knew more and could help you. Just a thought if you 'unregister' your computer--you might be able to access the old way. Not sure--maybe someone else knows more than I do.

Good luck finding a simple and easy MP3 :) Let us know what you decide to get!
