Bailey Bear is going away for the first time!- STRESS!

I am soooo darn stressed right now!!!!!!

Bailey is going into Kennels for the very first time in his life! I have never ever used a kennel before!
I thought I was soooo organized but now I am not organized at all.
It is so darn hard to co-ordinate dates to get the Cat into a cattery ( He is going to our vets cattery! as he is very old and they are doing his dental treatment while he is there Shhhh!!!! He doesn't know about that bit of his holiday yet!) The Dog into the Kennels ( which were a nightmare to find! I am very fussy about standards and honestly some places we looked at were not nice!) Then of course I have to get the disabled lad into rest-bite care and that is another nightmare story! Anyhow got all the dates to co-ordinate. So breathed a sign of relief. We were going to go away abroad but Dh has been ill again so were staying in this country and what with Bailey going into Kennels for the first time probably good were here to get him if he is really upset. So we are just going away in the caravan for a few days. It was going to be a week but then the Daughter decided she was moving house and her move date is right in the middle of our holiday dates. She wants us to "help" ugh! So we will probably have to come back a few days early to do that! So much for getting everyone out of my hair so I could get a break NOT!
Then to top it off I couldn't find Baileys Kennel booking form or medical records which I keep safe because I want to use him for stud - darn I turned the place upside down and all the records are gone Bailey's, Gizmo's and Teddy's???? What with Bailey and Ted going into Kennels I need their vaccine records etc. Major meltdown here! :headbang:
I was thinking maybe I left them at the Vet as that is the only time they are out of the house. ( But they don;t have them???) So I am going mad thinking of what to do. - Tore the house apart and eventually found the booking form for Bailey in my old handbag! But no vaccine records - looked on the form and as suspected I needed to take them when I go to put him into the kennels. So this morning I think oh well the only thing I can do is go to the Vet and get them to give me confirmation that he got his shots. But then they only did the second puppy vaccine in December>? So thought I might have to get back onto the breeder as well. How stupid ????? How could I lose these things???? :headbang: :headbang: So I got to the vet and talked to the girl at the desk. She pulls up the records and tells me it is fine they can get me a copy of Baileys shots - but then she says DO YOU KNOW HE NEEDS HIS Kennel cough??? - "ummm errr isn’t that in his vaccines??????" Apparently not??? - So now I have to rush him to the vet Monday morning to get his Kennel cough and also apparently the cat is due his vaccines too so lovely! Cat will get dental treatment while he is in the cattery and his yearly vaccines Monday and Bailey will get his Kennel cough Monday which is only 8 days before he goes away! Apparently you should leave 10 days - Why didn't I know this??? I ask?? - Well she says, "we never Kennel cough vaccinate unless you use Kennels and you don't!" - But I do now????!!!!!! UGH!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: MAJOR STRESS MELT DOWN COMMING ON!!!! I did honestly think that that was done with the yearly vaccines???
Do I need to get this done every year or just 10 days before he goes into a kennels or is one load for life???? I have never done this before as I have never kenneled my dogs ever!!!! I always thought the yeary vaccination did everything?
Nightmare I am starting to regret this already. I am worried about Bailey and how he will get on and I have to make a major list of what I need to pack for my baby! Ugh - I think somewhere along the line I might have to pack some clothes and a caravan? - STREEESSSEEEDDD!!!!!!!!!

Good luck Helen!!! I decided a long time ago that if Jen and I have to go somewhere we can't take the girls, we're not going. Period.

8O WOW.......all the things that has to be done..........yepppp.
And if we do thing different - lots of other things that should have been done......

:high5: Good Luck - with the Kennels and everything! Have fun! :yay:
If it makes you feel better, the kennel cough (Bordatella) vaccine is only good for 4-6 months, so it is not something most people would ever give routinely if they don't board, etc on a routine basis. And it is also minimally effective at best - it covers only a couple of the strains that are out there.

And your missing records - if mine were missing all I would have needed to do was call my vet and they would print a new summary - 10 minutes and all would be done. They would also fax them wherever I needed them as well. This is pretty standard for here.
Dh is the organized one, everything in a file cabinet, though I did go thru the dog file and remove vet receipts from dogs we had 30 years ago   The file is MUCH thinner.

If you have a copier with a printer, make duplicates before filing, that way if you need to take something somewhere, you still have a copy. Hindsight is 20-20.

Kennel Cough, yeah iffy at best but it is the rules. There are so many different strains, there is no way vaccinations are available for all. Good idea to have your dog up to date if they go out in public...dog parks, shopping, etc. Still I am an advocate of minimal vaccinations so often in conflict with myself.

Sounds like you will REALLY need to get away. How awful your daughter selected that time to move...maybe she had no choice. How inconvenient for her if you had been able to travel out of country.

Most of my dogs really loved the kennel, but then they were together. Basil the St. Bernard would get all excited when we'd pull up to the kennel......the owner loved Basil and loved to play with him...gave him hours of extra attention.

Funny - I am usually the one who keeps paperwork for years! lol :) I still have the dog licences for dogs going back nearly 30yrs! I am so upset about loosing the paperwork. I can;t think where it would have gone other than to take them to the vet. It is the only reason to have the records out of the house. So now I am checking all the cars and my old bags???? Doubtless it will all turn up when we get back!

I am hoping that Bailey will enjoy the Kennels. I don;t like splitting the boys up but everyone wants to have Gizmo because he is small older and good. But no one wants Bailey because he is a pup and slightly on the mad side! Funny how folk compliment you all the time about these dogs when your out and about but no one wants to babymind them while your away! I am glad we found a nice kennel - but worried as weve not done it before I don't know what I am doing and now having felt prepared I feel total panic to get it all sorted.
Vet on Monday and they are making up new forms. :) Still it would have been good to have the originals!

Oes :wag:
Holidays are so hard to organise-always seems more to do for the family that's staying at home-meals easy to find in freezer, reminder notes about Sprox walks, food etc-all the daily stuff that just gets done and "no-one knows how to do it!".x
We don't go anywhere unless Bloo can either come or my nan has him :-) Id never put him in a kennel
Up at the crack of dawn this morning. - took Bailey and the cat to the Vet.
Finally got the Kennel cough vaccine which was through a puff up his nose! All of 2 seconds to give! Then we got the Cat Vaccinated as he is also for the kennels but he is going into their Kennels because his Dental work is being done at the same time and UGH he also has a growth on his back that will get removed at the same time. Thing is Murph had one the same come up on his back leg a few months before he died. We only noticed it when we did his "summer cut" last year and he was dead by 4th July from the Cancer. So Teddy having one freaks me out a bit. He is really old getting now at least 16yrs. We've had him 15 yrs. He was an adult cat when we got him. Our kids call him Mathusala! He has outlived 5 dogs!
So was all a bit long and stressing but got that done and I actually "remembered" to come away with new vaccination records and I got them all signed off and up to date by the Vet!
God - I had to go for Coffee after! Lol - Followed Dh into the Vet room - only to realise I left the cat in the cat carrier in the waiting room! OMG - Senior moment! Oh well at least they were in the car when we got home! lol :)

Now I only have the Kennels to persuade to take the Dog even though he was supposed to have 10 clear days of Kennel cough vaccination and he now has only 8! Darn :headbang: Could have been worse and I could have got there without having had the vaccine at all! I still can't figure why I didn't know about that vaccine being seperate from the yearly one. He isn't due that until December so naturally I thought he was done? - We did manage to get them all Flea treatments etc while at the Vet as well so that was good as the Kennels wanted that too.

OMG nightmare - I never realised how difficult it was and stressfull getting a Dog into Kennels! - Honestly it was easier getting my son into adult care for the disabled!

Oes - going to bed now to get over the stress!
I can't take the stress of leaving my dogs in a kennel and probably wouldn't enjoy my trip so if they can't come, we don't go! But many people do leave their dogs in kennel and the dogs are just fine. Good Luck...and in the alternative, if the kennel won't take hi, how about a sitter that comes to the house? Good Luck and hope you relax soon!
Unfortunately we don't have anyone willing to come house sit right now so we have no option but put them into Kennels. We are taking the little Dog Gizmo with us but Bailey is going into Kennels as we do want him to get used to going away and mixing with other folk and Dogs. I know the Kennels are great and the staff are lovely. It is run like a home from home type of set up with lots of individual attention. So they don;t take in many Dogs at the one time. The one thing we liked when we went on a spot check to the place was how tidy and clean it all was. NO DOGGY smell! The pens were all clean and had lots of OWN toys and baskets and bowls etc. so very personalized. They also have time for walking and Ball games etc. They seem a great place so here is hoping it is going to go smoothly. I will sure miss Bailey. - He has deffinately grown on me! The older he gets and the more like Murph he looks the more I love him to bits. He is very like Murph in markings but this dog is deffinately better breed and a far better temperament. He is also more open to training at a younger age! Murph was simply crazy when I got him at 18 months so missed out on loads. Bailey can already do such a lot. But some stuff he finds hard to learn! We are working on the "down" command right now. lol The easiest way to a dogs brain is through his stomach! Teddy will be staying at our own Vets as they run a cattery. Also bast place for the boy as he is ancient and is having surgery while there. Bless him he will hate leaving his daddy. He is perminantly attached to DHs chest these days. It will be all a new very steep learning curve for us all I think but if it all goes well it will be a more perminant thing on our adjenda. We love to fly to the Med and we simply cannot take a big fur ball of a dog to those temperatures when he isn;t used to it. So no we wont be taking him on holiday anytime soon overseas. We will be taking him camping alot here though and he does love a camping trip!

Oes
Well we didn;t manage to get away last time as Bailey was sick so we had to cancel the whole thing :(

However tomorrow Bailey and Gizmo are going into kennels ( the nice one we found in September)
Ha ha the poor boys have been bathed and groomed to within an inch of their lives! Bailey's coat has grown back after his first cut this summer so now he looks like a puff ball. - THe last two days he has been banned from ball ball in the garden because it is like a mud bath and white puff balls and mud baths don't mix very well lol . The lads look really great and I am a lot more confident about them going. I have even managed to find all the documents again! :) Even Teddy the cat is going away tomorrow. Oh he is in terrible form and went and peed and poo all over Gizmo's bed darn and it was all clean for going away so now its in the washer and Giz is on the floor! That darn cat! But we love him - he does this when he gets upset, he also pees in the dogs water bowls when they are not looking!

SO everything is fine and I am looking forward to a few days away.
I can't believe how much Bailey is looking like 'the Murph' - wow it's brillient as it is like nothing has changed and everything is back to "normal!" But I don't call Bailey Murph by mistake anymore and I know temperment wise they are very different dogs. Bailey is far better - I adore the boy so much :aww: He is my best mate ever! He even jumps up and hugs me and he has started to hide his head between my knees like Murphy used to when he was tired or scared. I am so glad I got him! Bailey is wonderful -

Oes
have a good time, you've earned it with all this planning since Sept.
We are back - there is some worry though with the bear!
We noticed he was not seeing all that well when he was tiny and walked into stuff. But then if you all remember we got his first puppy cut and all seemed well again. I groomed him out and cut round his eyes before he went away ( but maybe didn;t cut enough?) Anyhow the kennel phoned us to say he was walking into the fences etc. They asked if they could cut more hair off his face so we of course said yes go ahead. But he was still doing it. This is a real concern. Anyhow we got home today and went to collect the boys and Bailey started barking at us like he was afraid of us - like he didn;t know who we were instead of running to us as I had assumed he would. He was great once he sniffed us but it is not right. We have him booked into the vet hospital next week to see the optomologist. He had all his puppy checks and we were told he was perfect and nothing was wrong? Very worried now. At least the kennel lady cared which is a good thing. I am soooo upset and worried I will have to get back to the breeder. I wont be able to use him to stud - I want to cry. I already had a blind OES ( rescue) That is one reason why we went for the acredited breeder scheme. I will have to tell the breeders - this is terrible.

Oes
I hope you had some fun while you were away before the worrying began regarding Bailey. I hope all goes well at his appointment.
I am worried sick with it - ? It is not as if he was not from a really good breeder etc. I have seen both parents and his siblings and none of them had sight issues, in fact they were at the Dublin Dog show being shown so I am pretty sure a judge would have spotted something like that with the parents. I am hoping something can be done? Doggy glasses???????? lol!!! We got him a big RED ball when we were away and it has a place in it to attach a bell! Darn we have been here before with Pollyanna our rescue that was blind and brain damaged. I really don;t want here again - BUT I LOVE BAILEY!!!!!!!! thanks for the concern and nice message. Thank god it was easy to get him into the Vet hospital so quick.
