Bailey has had a really bad bought of Diarrhea.

Bailey has had a really bad bought of Diarrhea the last few days.
Naturally we are very concerned. We took him off his food for 24 hours and then reintroduced it slowly but the same thing happened - explosive back end! Otherwise he is very active and alert and full of life. But I panic at the slightest thing after the loss of Murphy so suddenly.
We read that it is ok to give Imodium to a dog - so he had one this morning. He was taken off food again yesterday for a second 24 hours but still diarrhea - yuck! But I can't "starve him any more!" He has always been on the thin side and this doesn't help.
We were advised to give him a light diet of Scrambled egg and boiled rice / or Chicken and Boiled rice. With some natural yogurt, Which I did this morning but I just heard, that some dogs are allergic to egg? So I got mixed advice. The original advice came from an on line vet and then my sister told me not to give him egg because he might be allergic? I know a lot of folk who give egg to build their dogs up and for the coat? I hope he isn’t allergic because we have lots of eggs from our flock of hens?????? I just want to do the best for Bailey and I am not sure I am doing that right now?

Yes I do panic when something is wrong with my baby! I lost my Murph so quick and it is very upsetting still to think of it. Bailey Bear is so much a part of us I hate it when he isn't well.

Back in May my pup had the same thing and ended up taking him to the vet and he had bacteria in his poop. He ate something he wasn't suppose to... He was put on antibiotics and a probiotic. I would take a stool sample into the vet and have it looked at to see if there are any buggies in there.. good luck and hope he feels better fast..
It could very well be a bacterial infection, or worse. I also encourage a sample to the vet.

A 24 hour fast is minimum, just water. Then start back with plain rice for a couple of days. See if that helps. Then gradually introduce a protein.......chicken, beef whatever cooked with the rice. Yes, dogs can allergic to eggs, chicken, beef, etc. Hopefully that is not the cause because finding the culprit and coming up with a suitable substitute takes time.
He has not had a bad bought yet today!!!!!!! Ohhh thank god. Maybe he ate something bad he found in the yard? He is still in that baby chew anything stage. Thing is he had all his shots and he has not been off our property for the last few weeks. So he has not been in any contact with any other animals since Toby came to visit a few weeks back. Little Toby is fine and has all his shots etc and he is elderly now so never goes for long walks out anywhere. ( He has Queen anne legs and arthritis) so can't walk far.
I am hoping Bailey will be ok. Vets are closed here now till Monday but if he is still bad then we will have to take him. We phoned the vet and we told him that Bailey was put off food and was just back on rice/ with a bit of egg and had an imodium tablet. So were waiting to see if it settles again. But no bad exploding dog since he got rice and egg this morning. We are to go to the Vet Monday if it happens again. I just can't think what he could have been at to get this???
Here he is with his visitor the other day.
Everyone pose for a pic?

Did you change places? Toby look at the camera!

YES you did change places!!!

Had enough of this outa here!

Big slobery kiss for the camera!

Hope the good tummy continues. Cute pics of the gang as well :)
Diarrhea...........happens. Sometimes here I can trace it back to a certain vaccination or medicine.......most recently Kensie and Prednisone. Another time Jack and a dead something he hate before I could say "NO!" Unfortunately often it is my own fault  giving the pups something extra special like chicken schmaltz.

Lick something like laundry soap? Bird poop in the water bowl (which is actually very dangerous), there's just no telling. Normally Doggie's stomach is so acidic nasty things are destroyed before they can enter the gut. So really no way of knowing.

Not knowing what you have over there, but here a health food store sells Slippery Elm Bark. This forms a slippery goooo for their intestines...like a suave...giving it time to settle down.

Hope the lack of explosion for the last few hours indicates all is returning to normal, no reloading.
Ha NOOOOOOOOOOO Poooooooooo !!!!!!!!! don't need to don the waders after all today!
I am soooooooo pleased we are back to normal. He even got a small breakfast of proper dog food and kept it inside him! Bless him he has been so upset at not getting his food he does love his dinners! But he hasn;t got any treats or anything either which of course he loves, no gravey bones etc. It has been a pretty bad time for him.
BAILEY IS 1 yr old tomorrow!!!!!!! I really can;t believe a year has gone by since he was born already!

good news!! Glad it has turned around.

Unfortunately we are in pooh crisis with Kensie now. This will pass as usual, she is soooo tender tummy. At least she knows that after bubble and squirt she's going to get a butt wash and heads for the sink.

That sounds so funny. Murph used to have a twitchy tummy too - but Bailey doesn't usually so it was quite a shock to have exploding dog! Bless him he was sat on the floor and all you could hear was gurgles and farts! His face was a total picture! He has yet to experience the delights of a cold water tush scrub! :)
